"hello there, beautiful."

cait crooned out these words, the girl presently crouched to make herself appear smaller while extending a hand to the trembling sylveon. the creature was bristling slightly, its form pressed to the dirt and its eyes round with uncertainty.

"it's alright. i'm not gonna hurt you."

it was a surprisingly small thing, its pelt covered in flecks of dirt and its skin stretched tightly over its own ribs.

'i don't think i've ever seen one in this condition before.'

typically they were immaculate creatures, but it was likely a form of sickness that had driven the fairy into such a pitiful state. cait reached into her pocket to retrieve a few treats, the blocks of protein producing a pungent odor that had the pokemon's nose twitching.

"go on," cait urged.

the dainty pokemon crept forward, the presence of food encouraging it to throw caution to the wind in exchange for sustenance. it claimed a block or two for itself, its teeth lightly scraping at the palm of cait's hand as it distanced itself to gobble down the snack.

"..."

cait winced and shook her hand before observing the pokemon feed. it'd soon return for more, munching on the remaining block before licking its lips and peering up at the girl.

"you're hungry," she said. "i'll feed you plenty if you come with me."

'and get you to the vet as well as the groomer,' she thought.

sylveon trembled, having been to weak to hunt as of late due to its sickness. it blinked up at her and dipped its head, the meaning behind the subtle motion obvious to the woman.

cait was confronted by a lilligant shortly after having secured the sylveon into a capsule. the pokemon appeared to be distraught, her eyes round as she reached to snatch the pokeball from the young woman's grasp.

"hey there - !"

the gym leader stood and retreated several paces, eyeing the grass-type warily as it made another attempt at lunging toward her. the lilligant would be abruptly cut off by parasect, whom moved in defense of her mistress.

"lilli!"

the pokemon addressed the bug-type directly, gesturing frantically in direction of the young woman while doing so.

'is...'

it took her a moment to connect the dots before she peered down at her recently filled capsule.

"is this your friend?"

lilligant's head bobbed up and down in a nod, her eyes teary.

"i'm sorry," cait apologized. "i can't return them. they're sick. and i doubt they'll make it out here without human intervention."

the pokemon released a noise akin to a whimper, her leafy appendages settling over her face as she was confronted with that simple truth.

"you can... you can come with us, if you like? you'll be together and they'll get the care they need," cait promised, pitying the grass-type.

lilligant appeared to be taken aback by the request and hesitated briefly before managing a small and uncertain nod of her head.
