since joining into rocket, she’d been steadily pulled further from GABRIEL BLACK . between theo and now, niko, she found herself doing odder and odder jobs. this, in particular, wasn't something she wanted to be doing.[break][break]

but, here she was. the intensity of her scowl was almost fully hidden beneath the shadow of thick eyelashes. ever-glamorous, even while buried somewhere in a hoodie five sizes too big.[break][break]

she sighed as her hand reached out for a cheri berry, stained manicure splaying to avoid piercing yet another.[break][break]

“aren’t you supposed to be lucky?”[break][break]

a togepi at her feet looked up at her, blinking.[break][break]

niko approaches from the side, seemingly appearing out of the blue. his ditto rides on his shoulders, bouncing up and down and left and right with each step he takes.

his lips stay curled in a grin even before he reaches her side.

shoulders jumped lightly and shiny claws pierced into another cherri berry. its red juice exploded and she tossed it to the ground, squeezing eyes shut in frustration a moment.[break][break]

”hey, niko.” she gave a short sigh and held her hand up at him, fingers spread, and skin horribly stained. her eyes were confused and offended. [break][break]

”why are you doing this to me?”[break][break]

togepi looked up at niko curiously, before smiling and squeaking cutely.

niko plucks an apricorn off one of the bushes next to him, bring it to his lips for a bite. juices spill, trickling down his lips before his tongue swipes over them.

"what do you mean?"

he feigns ignorance, innocence, or what little of it he could muster.

"don't you like picking berries? it seems like your thing."

niko was a bit animalistic, which she’d come to realize in the time she’d worked for him.[break][break]

her hand dropped and she shook her head, ”is that a euphemism or something?” [break][break]

she reached back into leaves, pulling another berry out and placing it in the bag.[break][break]

”you know it’s not my thing.” not that it had been explicitly expressed, but it was a no-brainer.

"huh. guess i was wrong."

his lips curl into a grin, and as he reaches a hand into the leaves, he parts it for a moment before gesturing through.

"don't worry. we're actually here to steal some shit. people just haven't picked up enough berries yet."

one of their targets is a couple about two rows down from them. they carry with them a half-empty basket, which means they still have quite some time to wait.

a swkovet ran past, nearly running into them on its way to the apricorn tree niko had just eaten from. it popped one into its cheek pouch, and then darted into foliage again. nina seemed to regard it briefly as she stared off a moment. so, she hadn’t had to do any of this?[break][break]

she sighed, and looked through where he’d parted the leaves.[break][break]

accustomed to stealing money rather than berries, she was surprised at their mission. she blinked, considering how to go about it.[break][break]

“creative way to make a buck, niko, i'll give you that,” she commented with perhaps more attitude than necessary. she reached into another smaller bag she’d brought along, and out came a water bottle. she went to work dumping some of it on her hands, which looked rather unfortunately blood-stained almost. “shit.” the rinse did no good at all, except for the stickiness.[break][break]

maybe there was some way to use this in their strategy, though. an idea budded.
