The scent of smoke and the soft crackling of a small fire betrayed the location of the make-shift campsite Yvaine had set up amidst the ever-growing darkness settling over Petalburg Forest. Although the moon and stars alike were already peeking through the clouds, the sun hadn't fully disappeared behind the horizon just yet, drawing long eerie shadows through the leafy rooftop above her. A large Zoroark laid curled up beside its master, snoozing peacefully as the redhead gently prodded the fire, hoping for the larger log to catch fire soon. Although the shadows did not bother her much, the fact her right eye could barely perceive the differences between shade and actual darkness once night fell were troublesome. An issue easily solved if the fire were but a tad bit brighter.

Absent-mindedly her fingers touched the scar running across her right eye, a soft smile perched upon her lips. Ah yes, the good old days.… this brought back memories from yore. Even camping out in the woods right after the events of that fateful, accursed day were a perfect reflection of then, too. Irony would've wanted it that it too was the very reason she was traversing these woods right now. Personal reasons, for once. But one of her old 'comrades' had been sighted near Petalburg, and her contact had been adamant about checking the forests for traces leading back to the bastard.

One by one she'd track them down, and pay them back double for what they'd done to her.

Eye for an eye, tooth for-

Yvaine immediately focused as she heard the Zoroark at her side growl ever so softly, making her aware of another treading closer to the camp.

"Step into the light, stranger… and no funny business." Yvaine spoke calmly, not even bothering to look up as the Zoroark reared its head and took a threatening stance in her stead.

Keenan was off doing some nighttime hunting. Sort of. His Houndour recently evolved. And they'd been working a lot, learning new moves and the like. His new Houndoom was shaping up quite nicely...he really felt like he could take on a gym now. But first, he needed a better idea of how his oldest buddy liked to move now that he was a bigger and more powerful buddy. Night time in Petalburg had been proving to be a good hunting ground. But something was also amiss. As oblivious as he was, even he noticed the unusual size and color of the moon. And Houndoom has been tense for a while. Something was bothering him.

The five foot eight blonde didn't realize he was close to a camp until the growl and order came. EEP!" He squeaked out in surprise and fell backwards on his butt. Looking to his right, there was a rare Zoroark and its trainer, a woman with a scar over one of her eyes. While Houndoom was tense, he wasn't in an aggressive posture. He was instead in a defensive one over his clumsy trainer. Kee got up with wide eyes and held out his hands in a surrendering manner. "Sorry, I didn't realize I was close to a camp..." Considering how brightly she was getting that fire, he wondered how he could have missed it. It was to the point that he thought maybe he needed glasses.

He was about to turn and leave when his Houndoom stopped him. The horned dog Pokemon looked around frantically, even more tense and this time actually aggressive. Something was out there. And it likely wasn't friendly to either of the strangers.

"Well yes, I figured that one out alright." Yvaine grumbled softly as she looked up from the crackling fire, only to see how the startled blonde boy had fallen backwards, and was scrambling to get up. 'Boy' she thought, because beside his length his face looked rather youthful in comparison; kids these days seemed to grow tall as trees before they even grew their first chest hair. If she could make an estimate he'd be about as tall as her, though she might have gained an inch on him or so. Then again, wild guess.

But it seemed like the young man wasn't planning on staying, the only thing stopping him from physically leaving being the Houndoom at his side, who'd seemed rather nervous at first, but now was showing behavior almost bordering on hostile-- yet the more disturbing part was the fact that it was not directed at her or her Zoroark, prompting the redhead to get on her feet, eyes keenly surveying the edges of the forest. The fire's light was barely reaching far enough to give her a proper view of her surroundings, but it was clearer than ever that something was off. Even the shadows cast by the fire were dancing in an almost disrupted motion. Zoroark snarled at the forest, while Yvaine dared glance at the moon; it came as late realisation that the once bright moon had turned an eerie orange, and that the light reflected on the ground was in fact the moonlight rather than the extent of her fire's reach.

"Hey you, get away from those treelines, now! Yvaine exclaimed, gesturing for the blonde to get closer to her. She'd only had to nod for her Zoroark to turn around, keeping watch, and making sure nothing tried to sneak up on them from behind. "This isn't good…" The redhead grumbled softly, bridging the distance herself if the young man didn't. Even though they were strangers to one another, he did not seem to be involved in this strange phenomenon… and even if he were, two were better than one if the forest turned against them. "Did you notice anything strange when coming here? Anything out of the ordinary?" she'd ask him rather brusquely, her face stern while her eyes looked beyond him, at whatever was hiding in the shadows beyond the treeline.

Kee didn't need to be told twice. He backed up right to her with his Houndoom doing much the same. She put her own back to his as the Pokemon scoured the treelines in front and behind them, ready for a fight. The stranger asked him a question. "Just the unusual size and color of the moon. Houndoom was tense, but wasn't acting hostile until now." Scanning the treeline, he wasn't seeing anything yet. Even Houndoom really wasn't, but he was still growling. Then he saw a shadow of something moving. "Dark Pulse!"

From his maw, Houndoom fired a beam of dark energy that looked like interconnected rings at the shadow, making whatever it was scatter. "Ugh...if we were in someplace more open so we can use your fire attacks without burning down half the forest...oh, I'm Keenan, Kee if you're feeling lazy. If we're going to be stuck here and trying to figure out how to get out of it, might as well at least know names..." His Houndoom likewise snorted in frustration. They didn't want to cause unnecessary damage to the place...but at the same time, they had to defend themselves. He also didn't really want to move forward for fear of getting in deeper...should they go back?
