Things went by so quickly, and they were already out here.

Unfortunately he was still in the wheelchair, just to be on the safe side of things.

A Pidgeot took the other side of the field; and the fluttering of wings made him look up—many avians circling, but this time a Swanna hovered closer to where he was waiting.

“She’ll be your opponent for this match. You get the first move,” he called across the arena.

she trills, and greyson takes that as a sign to step back. with a mighty flap of her wings, ace is airborne. beneath her wings, she provides a tailwind, allowing the bird to cut through through the air even quicker.

The tell-tale familiarity of Tailwind struck him—so this was going to be a test of speed, then!

“Let’s go,” he nodded, and just like that, the Swanna spread her wings and was off!

Soaring across the arena, flapping her graceful wings, before a sudden mass of feathery down was scattered on the opposite side of the field—a Feather Dance maneuver!

Once she was done, she quickly reversed in mid-air, flying back to where Alexei was waiting.

Swanna used Feather Dance!

yes, it would be a battle of speed. greyson stands back, letting the pidgeot claim dominion over the skies in her own. ace was a talented huntress with KEEN EYES and an uncanny intelligence.

those very same eyes track the movements of swanna, and with perfect precision, MIRROR her MOVES. a FEATHERDANCE of her own has the bird twisting, turning and somersaulting in the air. a clear-challenge; a beckoning to 'come forth' if there ever was one. she wouldn't wait to find out, though. tucking wings in, she dives at her competition.

Another Mirror Move—what was up with him seeing this move quite frequently?

Well, joke’s on the Pidgeot, because the Swanna was more on a special attacker—so that wasn’t going to do much harm to her!

Spreading her wings wide again, this time a burst of bubbles began coalescing into existence, before rearranging themselves and going off towards the Pidgeot in a Bubble Beam attack.

Down where Alexei was watching, his brow furrowed in concern.

Crap, have to give her a fresh move set after this, depending on how this goes, he thought to himself. He knew that the Swanna was one of his more capable fighters, but he was always there, ready to bail her out in case things went wrong.

Swanna used Bubble Beam!

ace's wings tuck tighter against her flank, KEEN EYES allowing her to aim dead center even against the whipping winds. in the wake of her opponents BUBBLE BEAM her wings catch, lifting her up slowly as the wind keeps her steady. a single beat of powerful feathers and a HEAT WAVE forms.

it surges indiscriminately, popping bubbles and pushing past towards the swan itself. from her line of sight it looks like the very air between them is distorted, warped.

Battling fire with water? What was up with that?

A surprised squawk came from the Swanna as she moved backward, but regained her composure at the very last second. So the Pidgeot wanted to come up-close and personal, then?

A sudden flapping of her own wings would cause a column of air to form between them, before a final flap of her wings sent the gale-force Hurricane hurtling towards the incoming Pidgeot.

Hitting a Flying-type with a similar technique was like a rubber match, but it was the only way she could put distance between herself and the Pidgeot.

The gamble now was—did the Pidgeot know that one move she knew as well, because it would then result in both of the Pokémon throwing the same attack at each other…

It was a chance she was willing to take!

the technique was undoubtedly familiar. mere weeks ago, at greyson's behest, she'd practiced it in the middle of a clearing. it led to frustrating results out of her control, but that was another matter. "hit them back! show her who's superior!" no offense, of course. pep-talks didn't really take into mind the opponent.

ace trills in understanding, and agreement. from her own massive wings she summons a HURRICANE, sending it right back at the swanna's. hers in an opposite rotation, willing it to collide and dissipate them together. should that work, she goes in for a closer strike.

Both funnels of gale-force winds came crashing upon each other, and the resulting blast very nearly knocked Alexei, who was standing on the opposite side of the arena, almost flat on his back.

Thank hell he was in the wheelchair but still, that burst of air was powerful!

The Swanna let out a screech as she was thrown backwards—but this time decided that enough was enough. She was going to risk it.

Spreading her wings wide, a swirling circle of clouds began darkening above the arena.

This was about as much warning Alexei had before he quickly zipped up his jacket’s hood and a torrential Rain Dance started to pour across the battlefield.

A few moments afterward, another Hurricane column of wind followed—this one intent on seeking out the Pidgeot.

Swanna used Rain Dance! Torrential rain is now pouring down on the battlefield! (1 / 5)

Swanna then followed up with a Hurricane!

pidgeot trills in annoyance as the sky darkens, and water begins to pour. she'd flown through rain hundreds of times, but, there was no denying the threat bogged and soaked wings could pose. that and another HURRICANE. as a bird of prey she wanted to get in close, to grip her opponent with oppressive force and never let go. meeting her attack head on, was an option, but they'd continuously stall out.

instead, she had other plans.

ace approaches the massive vortex with resounding speed. as she nears, she edges herself to the outermost layer of the hurricane, forcing every muscle in her body to keep up, riding the outer edges like a slingshot. it's winds whip and cut her, but sheer grit and determination knew no bounds. just as she's threatened to be consumed by the attack, she pushes off with another TAILWIND and dives into a QUICK ATTACK straight at the swanna.

Now that the weather was coming down in buckets, the Swanna had the advantage—this time summoning an Air Slash and aiming it at the incoming Pidgeot.

While she knew that it wasn’t going to be enough—and she was indeed knocked back by the force of the attack—once the other avian was close enough, another Hurricane came ripping from her wings—due to the change in weather, the secondary funnel of wind would come chasing after the Pidgeot as well in the torrential downpour.

Squinting through the rain, Alexei knew that the Swanna could hold her own, but—who knew what else was coming up afterward?

Torrential rain is now pouring down on the battlefield! (2 / 5)

Swanna is struck by the attack, and lashes back with an Air Slash attack to drive the Pidgeot back; before following up with another Hurricane!

"hmm." the trainer's contemplating is drowned out by the weather. only the furrowed brow, and narrowed eyes that were aimed upwards, would give anything away at all. at this pace...

the AIR SLASH lands a glancing blow on the pidgeot, scuffling her feathers and areas of her plume. she moves off, carried by the momentum of her previous attack, before coming around in a u-turn.

and face-to-face with another hurricane.

the massive bird trills in indignation, before a MIRROR MOVE summons a hurricane in echo. then, this one fueled by her own power, she summons her own HURRICANE.

This was going to become a rubber match should he not end it quickly—and he hoped that the Mirror Move strategy wasn’t going to—

Happen.

Shit, he thought as the Pidgeot had executed the familiar motions of the Mirror Move and batted back a Hurricane of equal force and power at the one his Swanna had chucked out, effectively cancelling her attack out.

A single whistle, and the Swanna changed tactics, this time sending out blades of wind to cut across the space in an Air Slash gesture—but then also following it up with a sneaky application of Bubble Beam.

This was… definitely going to be a battle of attrition.

Torrential rain is now pouring down on the battlefield! (3 / 5)

Hurricane is cancelled out by another attack of the same magnitude; and now the Swanna goes on the offensive, launching an Air Slash and following it up with a Bubble Beam!
