the yamask stares back. whether it likes what it sees is neither here nor there. it receives nothing more than the ghost of a smile long since passed.

and then both ships continue passing into the night. where it goes, she does not know.

where she goes? wherever her heart desires.

[attr="class","illie i"]the second ghost comes in a chill. it skitters down her spine, bony fingers clawing at skin.

and she's become too familiar with ghosts to shy from the sensation. no, she welcomes it instead with a soft smile and the sweep of a hand.

beckoning the spirit closer, reaching out fingers to caress crumbling stone. it holds memories she cannot fathom. timelines of old with the past etched into each curve. and the runerigus finds itself curious at her reaction, as if it cannot possibly hope to understand why she isn't afraid.

illeana reyes has been haunted by far too much to be afraid of a ghost. the runerigus is a welcome change compared to the spirits in the landscape of a mind.

and when her smile spreads wider, the ghost has found a friend in the scientist.

"come," she whispers. it's lost to the wind within moments. "walk with me a while."

her ninetales shifts to her other side and the runerigus takes the offer with an almost excited flail of half stone arms. they wander beneath moonlight for what feels like eons until finally, the stars lead them home.
