Angelo shoots Alexei a slow smile, mostly hidden behind his final sip of coffee. It’s clear that he doesn’t quite believe him. He’d heard the ‘we’re just friends’ excuse before from his own lips, just over a year ago, after all.[break][break]

“Well if he’s a good guy and he’s lookin’ out for you, then that’s all I need to know.” As long as his friend was happy, then that was all that mattered. [break][break]

Even if he was so far in denial that Angelo wouldn’t be surprised if he started arguing that Decidueye were flying types. [break][break]

“Maybe me, you, Ethan and that 'ol’ friend' of yours could go for a drink sometime soon, how about that?” He suggests, standing up with a stretch that sees his shoulder pop with a casual roll. [break][break]

With a sigh of contentment, the pilot returns his empty mug to the table with a satisfying clatter and swaps it for the details that Alexei slips over. He doesn’t hesitate to pop it in his pocket. “Thanks, that would be good of you... And I know you’re busy with your friend now, but don’t be a stranger, alright Alex?” [break][break]

Angelo reaches across the table again, this time extending a hand for the gym leader to take…

At the mention of catching drinks, he cackled.

“I can do you one better. You remember what happened at the summer tournament. Third night, down at the bar?”

Probably not, but still. A lot of people had gotten fucking wasted that evening, and he was one of the hilariously sober ones present. He distinctly remembered making a dirty martini for miss Katherine Fairburne and talking about it.

“Anyway, I can make us drinks if you want to kick back and relax. And meet him in person, since I know you’re not going to be content with me just saying ‘he’s a good friend of mine’.”

And try not to serve Mattie anything that’s vodka-based because he’s a very rowdy drunk! he thought to himself afterward.

The gesture isn’t missed, either—he reached across the table and returned the handshake gesture.
