Usually, it could be considered his job to get people to talk; to get them to share their opinions about things no matter how controversial those opinions might be. Pace Mahmoud, however, needs little coaxing, and explanations flow easily even when he never even verbally asked for such things. Is he good at understanding people’s expressions and demeanour, or is he just desperate to be liked?

Whatever the answer may be, a slight smirk remains at Percy’s lips.

”So you’re saying I seem like a traditionalist, and so, also probably uptight.”

He knows that’s not exactly what Pace meant, but there’s something ever so slightly amusing about teasing him. Is it cruel? Maybe, but that’s just how Percy is.

”I do miss Ecruteak, though. You’re right about that, but Hoenn also has its charms. If I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t live here.” There’s many more reasons than that, of course, he sees little point in going into details. Unlike the ranger before him, rarely does Percy go on rants. ”What about you? Why Hoenn?”

Pace had, truly, never needed coaxing in order to speak, especially not about himself. Save for a few little details that he'd rather not bring to light, Pace could talk about himself and how wonderful he was for years. Not necessarily desperate to be liked, but when someone's entire social life is built around being the person that everyone loves, a certain subconscious desire that people adore him is natural.[break][break]

Good at understanding people's expressions and demeanour, though? Oh yes, very much so. Even before Sinnoh, he'd perfected the art of looking at little things. The kinds of things you pick up with a mother who snapped at the smallest things, it became all-but necessary to pick up the small details. And then, later in life, as he became a person who desire physical contact, sometimes the little unsaid things spoke the most with flirting.[break][break]

As for Percy, though... Pace was picking up on some rather obvious messages that read as a pretty clear don't even try it.[break][break]

He can't help but smirk at Percy's tease, all-but whining a reply. "That's not what I meant, Mr. HNN. Are you teasing me right now? I wasn't sure you had it in you. It's quite an attractive quality, though."[break][break]

Again, the topic is turned on it's head - Percy played this game stunningly well. Answer a question with the bare minimum and turn it back to Pace. It was like a job interview, but it also rang like a game, and Pace did awfully love the thrill of playing with someone who held themselves like Mr. Munn did.[break][break]

"Why Hoenn... hm... You know, I'm not sure there's a real answer there. Or at least not a particularly satisfying one - I moved quite quickly, on a whim, so I don't think there was much conscious thought behind it. Hoenn was close and far enough to be exciting and familiar all at once."[break][break]

Again, a thousand words come out at once. Not necessarily messy - his quantity matches the quality of Percy's carefully-picked sentences just as well. Nonetheless, though, Pace talks. When people were gorgeous and interesting, it was their civil duty to talk, of course - Mars would agree, back in the day, and probably even now. Percy seemed the type to think the exact opposite. It was utterly enthralling.

Percy wishes he could convince himself he doesn’t care, that he could claim that someone like Pace Mahmoud sparks nothing in him, but statements like those would be no more than lies, and Percy hates lying.

Pace Mahmoud is the sort of person who will always perplex him. Good looking and painfully aware of it. Outgoing to the point that it’s almost overwhelming. His polar opposite in just about every single way, and thus, because of it, utterly attractive. It’s annoying just how hard he has to try to resist, and even more annoying is that despite all his resistance, Pace wins.

After all, he still finds himself smirking when Pace almost whines in response to his teasing, an eyebrow raising judgingly when eyes of silver meet those of gold. ”Hmm… You must have really thought me to be uptight if you can’t imagine me to be capable of teasing. Although, I’m not sure what being into being teased and mocked says about someone.”

Teasing implications upon teasing implications, and yet, in reality, no more than a way to deflect and deviate attention from himself – from the oh so gentle rose hues that painted his cheeks the moment Pace mentioned finding him attractive. Percy would blame it on the fireplace, on the warmth of the restaurant, or even on the drink he takes a sip from before returning his attention to finishing his meal.

”Moved on a whim?” He echoes Pace’s comment, but not out of an intent to question him. It’s more out of a desire to emphasise to himself how different he and the ranger are – a reminder, if you will. Percy would never do something like that. Hell, he rarely even follows his own instincts. ”I hope your whim has paid off, then.”

Once done with his meal, he looks at Pace once again, and then, if only for a second, he smiles faintly. Despite it all, despite his reluctance, despite how against this sort of thing the journalist usually is, it has been nice, and admittedly, it’s at that moment that he finds himself thinking that he wouldn’t be against spending more time with the man before him…

”We should probably get going. It’s rather late.”

At the first half of Percy's comment, he chuckles a little - he doesn't think him that uptight. At the second part, though, where Mr Munn (HNN) implies such cruel things about him, draws out a real laugh. "Is it so wrong, Percy? Maybe I like it when you tease me. Maybe I find it incredibly hot. Who knows! I do definitely enjoy talking t you, so if teasing and mocking is a part of that, then count me in" [break][break]

Teasing implications can only go so far, right? Pace can't help himself. He reaches a certain level and it's all too much, like a cat getting zoomies after eating. Tell Percy he loves speaking to him and finds him hot is really Pace being gentle, he could have - and wants to - say much, much worse. Would it frighten Percy off? He's not sure, but a part of him doesn't want to take that chance.[break][break]

Pace follows his instincts almost animalistically - whims govern everything, from where he lives to who he fucks. Percy picks on the phrase, is that surprise playing in his speech? Pace smiles. "It seems like it has. There's some beautiful places in Hoenn, good job prospects, some really wonderful people." He holds his gaze pointedly.[break][break]

"Ah. It is late... what a shame, right?" He sands up, dusts himself off a little. Perhaps, in the dim glow of the fireplace, he notices Percy's faintly-pinkened cheeks, but he doesn't comment on it. He offers him an arm, instead - a grin plastered alongside it as though it's a joke, but he really does mean it.[break][break]

He almost says something more. [break][break]

I'll pay for the taxi, let's head back to mine. [break][break]

Kiss me, now, hard. [break][break]

You're beautiful.[break][break]

But it fades in the night air like a sunset, lust's wavering corona overpowered by something else that tastes a little sweeter. He smiles at Percy and offers to pay for his cab home, offers him his phone.[break][break]

"Put your number in? This has been really nice, Percy. Let's do it again sometime."
