Despite working in Slateport City and spending much of his time in its Upper District, it’s not often that Mars wanders down to the lower areas of the Hoennian metropolis. He has no reason for it other than the occasional visit to the bank’s branch located among these streets, and yet his presence here on this early December day has nothing to do with his beloved POG Bank.

”How’s Exodus going, Iyona? Have you made much progress?”

Kano Iyona is not someone Mars has spoken to in depth before, and so Rocket’s request to capture more Steel types to be melted down in the laboratory’s furnace comes as a good chance to familiarize himself with the scientist. In truth, he’s not even sure he understands exactly what Exodus’ goal even is, but as long as it grants them more power and better resources, that’s what matters, isn’t it?

Still, that’s a whole lot of dead pokémon that could have been used for other purposes.

Still, the Admin doesn’t push further, his gaze instead wandering over their surroundings as he listens to the musings of the scientist. Today, expensive suits and ties have been left behind in favour of a more casual attire, even going as far as styling his hair differently and wearing a hoodie that makes him look much different from the CEO that appears in tv interviews and magazines. It’s not like it would matter if he’s seen around here, but things are better like this, since Mars hates wearing suits to begin with.

Before he can elaborate, the familiar neigh of a Zebstrika breaks through the air, being soon followed by the clopping of its hooves against the pavement. It reminds him of the ones bred by his family for their horse races, but a wild Zebstrika isn’t nearly as tame as the ones he has known since he was a child. It’s obvious that the pokémon will be trouble, and in order to deal with it, Mars calls out one of his Gastrodon.

While the sea-slug deals with the speedy horse, Mars turns to Kano.

”A good pokémon is an asset. If so many will be sacrificed, I hope the results are at least of equal value. Otherwise this research project of yours is no more than a waste of resources.”

Kano notices a figure creeping on the corner, peeking in curiosity. It must have been due to owning the similar pokemon in great number but Kano can easily tell what it was. Kano calls for Gengar and she quickly dives down to the shadow and sneaks to the Voltorb's behind and quickly strikes it and incapacitated it due to the suddenness of nature before Kano attempt to capture the pokemon. Martín del Mar also manages to capture a wild Zebstrika and answer her question. [break][break]

"Is that so," Kano says, has no desire to correct or wrong the guy. "Did you know, the inventor of lightbulb wasted more than a hundred lightbulb before it actually works?" Kano muses not elaborating more on what she meant by that. "Interesting isn't it?" Kano stares at Mars. It is hard to judge her expression as it is hidden under the mask.

The word is repeated as they continue to walk down Slateport’s lower district, as if he were considering Kano’s words. In the corner of his eye, he notices a Minun watching them with curiosity, it’s approach cautious yet almost inevitable – slowly but surely.

”An invention that revolutionized the world, can be used in a myriad of ways, and that that the grand majority of the population relies upon… I’d say that covers the cost and value of a few hundred light bulbs, would you not?” When the Minun finally gets close, it walks toward the Gastrodon, and sensing it means no harm, the large slug allows it to ride on its back. A new friend, apparently.

Kano stays silent for a good while after listening to the man's question. Does she truly believe that? She could be careless about revolutionizing Rocket. She would use any means to leave her name of the passage of history, to prove to her family that they are wrong. She doesn't care if she treats Rocket as a stepping stone to her own goal. Gengar cast a HYPNOSIS to random wild Aron within the vicinity to make them asleep and he casually lifts her up like a sandbag. [break][break]

"If a scientist doesn't believe in what they work on" Kano muses for a moment, looking at the sky above. Her mask is slightly open revealing only her right eyes and she sharply stares at Mars. "Then who else? A scientist hates an empty pursuit as much as you are" Kano's eyes remain on him for a while before she closed back her mask and face away. "To answer your foolish question, yes." Kano declares.

They’re similar in that sense, for while Mars may indeed be no man of science, he does fully believe in his own endeavours. Every investment made, every plan designed, every goal attained… none of them would exist if he didn’t trust they would succeed.

There were many words that she has prepared in case of him being a low-tier businessman and demanded to speed the process up focusing on the profit only. However that words dashed out as he agree with her sentiment without any fightback. "It is good to hear that we share the same sentiment" Kano muses as her respect toward Mars grows at least for a bit. Kano is not someone who is easy to amuse but getting a sliver of respect from her is quite a challenge. A Klang appears from the corner and without the need of her to order Gen, he repeats what he did to the previous wild Pokemon and strikes them from behind before Kano captures them. "I have enough steel-type Pokemon for the fuel. If you have something that you want to say, feel free to say it now. If not, I want to go back to my lab and do preliminary research." Kano stares at Mars, waiting for an answer from the man.

Profits will always matter to Mars, and there’s a part of him that definitely insists that at this moment Exodus is not a profitable endeavour, but that doesn’t mean that the admin believes monetary gain is everything. There are other things that matter, other potential victories, so much that could be gained if the research project were to succeed…

Mars is rarely one to have blind faith in people, and while he has only had a few short conversations with most of the scientists involved in the project, this short chat with Kano Iyona has taught him a few things about the woman.
