So much for her much deserved rest. Jayda figured with her departure from the military she would finally be due the rest she hadn't been able to in eight long years. But here she was on some mission. The league had requested her assistance. It would seem there would be no rest for the wicked. [break][break]

Ah well, at least she was getting paid for it. She'd been partnered off with a stranger and charged to watch over him as they ventured into Shoal Cave in search for an artifact. Not the strangest or most difficult thing she had done, but she hoped things would go easily. One thing that was going to be a touch difficult was the cold. [break][break]

Ajay wasn't much of a fan of the cold. But here she was anyway. Anything for a constant paycheck. "So, you used to be a medic?" asked the man beside her. Honeyed hues turned towards him before a small smile quirked at her lips. "One doesn't simply stop being a medic." she says as she rubs her hands together for warmth. Even though they were covered in mittens they still felt icy cold. [break][break]

"But you don't have to worry about that. I'll take good care of you." she said as she flashed him a wink. It'd be better if he was more relaxed, which is why Jayda figured she'd lighten the mood. When people were anxious they tended to make stupid mistakes. If it were at all possible, she'd like to avoid obvious mistakes for now. "So, shall we get started? The sooner the better." she said as she shivered once more.

Just like her, the ranger rubs his hands together while breathing out on them. Unlike the medic, however, Derek didn't bring any gloves. Sliding them down into his pockets, he was thankful for the warmth and shielding the fabric provided from the elements.

Though the terrain is cold and rugged, Derek seems to move well, even going so far as to take the lead. He'd been here before, and if anyone was going to slip or fall first, it should be the one who didn't know first aid.

"By the way, I heard your last name from dispatch and wanted to ask—are you by any chance related to the Head Ranger of the same name?" While Derek thought it maybe a little unlikely, they both shared a similar likeness in the color of their hair. Unfortunately he and Sénon Game didn't converse enough to know much of anything about one another, let alone if they had family in the region. Aside from Cait, that is.

Derek ended up leading the way for them once they got into the cave, which worked perfectly for her. Jayda hadn't been here long so she didn't know her way around places just yet. Not to mention, should anything happen it would be better that she wasn't taken out of commission so that she could still be useful to Derek. [break][break]

She could already feel herself slipping back into the mindset she had while still in the military. Some old habits were just hard to break. Especially when they were drilled so deeply into you (pause...don't even think about making a joke about that ._.) that they weren't even thought about consciously anymore. [break][break]

Then again, some things needed to be. She was in constant life or death situation so if she hadn't been prepared then she would've lost her life a long time ago. His question pulled her from her thoughts. Her mind drifted over to Sénon Game as her brows knitted together. She hadn't been paying much attention to news surrounding her brother but she knew he was important. So, if Derek said he was the Head Ranger he must be. "Yeah. Freaky guy with the strange eyebrows, right? That's my brother." she said with a snicker. "Don't worry though, we're nothing alike." [break][break]

It was true, Senon and Jayda couldn't be further apart in terms of personality. She wasn't sure about his work ethic but if it was anything like how he was around family she felt sorry for his coworkers. "Why do you ask?" she said as she turned her brown orbs towards her partner.

With their desired destination not far ahead, he hoped Jayda might be able to impart a decent morsel of truth to the head ranger's character.
