The task at hand is simple enough and he volunteered for it as a chance to get away from the city. The snow that blanketed the ground, which he still doesn't trust after the whole Ultra Hole Shenanigans explanation, muffle most sound. He almost felt like his footsteps were echoing, the crunch of snow loud despite it all. [break][break]


He'd been doing last minute preparations, checking lights and radios. Making sure they had back up supplies should they need to stop.and pick up a hurt pokemon. They'd be following the migratory herds that were due to pass by them in the next 10 minutes. Every so often someone or something would radio a new coordinate for the herd. [break][break]


"Coming!" He said as he moved to take the reins, so to speak. "Hopefully the sky doesn't break before we finish following them. They're in the home stretch after all." He said as opened the door to the truck, and hopped into the driver's seat. As he did he pulled a few things out of his pocket, dumping them onto the console. "I brought snacks, if you want 'em. Jerky, trail mix, cookies…" he trailed off dumping ziplock bags down before shifting focus on beginning to drive.

Paxton adjusted his seat belt and nodded over at Reiner in greeting before taking one quick look at the console. Gas was ok, lights were on, radio was online. Good to go. Just in time too as he watched a heard of pokemon begin to move through. He waited, watching dozens upon dozens of Stantler cut through the snow. He swore he could see the flash of bright green amongst them before it swiftly disappeared from view. “Yeah. I’m trying out this recipe but…well I can’t quite remember how it goes.” He said as he watched the herd. “Usually, it’s supposed to have a bit of lavender, but every batch I’ve tried I over or under did it so. I just made cinnamon sugar for now and I’ll try the lavender some other time.” [break][break]

It could be the type of lavender he was using. Perhaps the lavender syrup he was using was too cheap. Perhaps it was better with freshly ground, lavender petals. But he hadn’t had time to figure it out yet and he couldn’t remember how she’d made them either. Of course, there was at the recipe but that had disappeared along with all of them. Ashes to the wind. “Anyway, I like ‘em crunchy.” He said as the radio spoke. [break][break]

At the nudge form the Luxray, he turned his head slightly and lifted a hand to rub his head. “You want some jerky, kitty?” he asked before reaching for the bag and pulling out a piece for the electric type to nibble on. “Let ‘em know I see them and I’m following them, Eris.” He added as the truck began to inch forward, keeping a good distance from the pokemon to avoid spooking them.

The officer nodded to show he was listening to the girl, eyes glued to the road as he slowly followed after the herd. “Ah, no, I’ve used mainly varying amounts of lavender concentrate syrup.” He explained. The few times shed done that the syrup had completely overpowered the entire cookie and made them a bit inedible. He tilted his head at her before smiling. “Not as rare a recipe as I thought then. My mom used to make batches fresh, so when I’d come home there was sometimes warm cookies in the kitchen” he explained. He wished he had paid her more attention and remembered how she made the recipe. At least he wouldn’t be floundering so much with it. Then again, he rather liked trying to recreate it for himself. This might’ve been the same results if he had her book. [break][break]

Paxton snickered, Reiner’s snout tickling his hand before he slipped it behind the electric type’s ears and gave him a quick scratch. “We stay on the hunt, for the ever elusive, Sage Stantler. A rare mutation in the species-” he said trying to point Eris’ attention to the flash of green amongst brown in the distance. Surprisingly he spotted another pair of headlights up ahead, and broke character. “Eris, let them know we’re over here.” He said, slowing down slightly but still keeping true after the Stantler who were pushing further to one side with the presence of another truck so close by.

He nodded along to the girl in the passenger seat, slowing down the truck to a halt. The herd seemed a little unnerved by the other truck in the path, having hesitantly accepted the first already. This one was a little too close. The heard began to veer down to the left to avoid it. “Yeh, thatta one…” he murmured as he reached for a cookie of his own. Reiner tugging back Eris seemed to have been a GREAT idea as suddenly an AIR CUTTER came zooming past the truck, slicing the side and damaging the side mirror. The sudden attack scares the herd enough to begin a farther move down the other path. The wrong path. Weren’t those dead ends? That wasn’t part of the briefing.

Before he can even figure out what’s happening there’s a loud SCREECH as a Crobat flew into view of the windshield, swooping down on their jeep. “Poachers?!” he shouted after he uncovered his ears looked back up at the other truck. The people inside were already moving, rushing to chase down the herd on foot and in the air. “Fuck fuck fuck those aren’t our guys.” He said, stating the obvious as he let out Joules. The Magnezone appeared in a flash if light beeping quickly as multiple eyes took in the sudden battlefield and the different people moving all at once. “Protect the herd! We’re going after the truck!” he said, already grabbing another pokeball from his belt. “Reiner?? Eris?? We good?” he asked, checking on the child once more, about to leave her inside the jeep with the child locks on.

He doesn’t have time to argue with the big cat or Eris, as clearly the truck wasn’t safe anymore. As they take off, electricity glowing off him and the terrain immediate around him, Paxton set his eyes on the poacher’s truck. But its abandoned, seemingly. There’s another SCREECH as the foe Crobat’s swooped down on Reiner and Eris. [break][break]

Paxton released another pokemon. The Solrock hummed with energy, slowly looking around nand then at their trainer. “Altan, cover me while I search this truck.” He said rushing over, ready to pilfer whatever info or supplies were in there. The engine is still running, and a glance as the direction it’d been heading, he saw the trail get narrower. Fuck. [break][break]

There’s a sudden growl as a Mightyena, probably left to guard the cargo snarled at him, HOWLing on signal it’d found something. As soon as it started, his Solrock flew in smashing the dark type against the side of the truck and flashing as FLARE BLITZ overtook their rocky body and burned the screaming Mightyena. “Good work! Let’s find Eris.” He said taking off running with his Solrock in tow behind him. [break][break]

Joules is already busy, glowing with power as they set of a FLASH CANON at another Crobat as the poached shot tranquilizer darts and tossed nets over the migrating Stantler, particularly the shiny one. The Crobats, apair of them, were busy trying to keep the interlopers at bay.

"Eris!" Paxton shouted, as he heard the shrieks of animals and the stampeding of hooves. Remnants of electricity spark in the distance and Paxton can only hope the trio are holding up. All the while, Joules is now directly on top of the trio, beeping what one could assume were warnings of immanent danger before it shot off a blast of electricity at the other unoccupied Crobat. That finally sends it smashing into a tree. Once again, Joules beeps a set of instructions quickly, not realizing their and Paxotn's methods of communicating aren't universal=, before darting off closer to the humans attacking the herd. Dodging several Stantlers, one would notice one or two humans go up in the air flying before crashing back down a few feet away from the raining hell of hooves they'd caused. [break][break]

The Midnight Lycanroc doesn't back down, snarling as it stood up to take on the Zeraora with an immediate STEALTH ROCK for he interruption of its meal. The other Crobat, disoriented and battered shot out another AIR CUTTER, this one aiming for Reiner. Altan isn't fast enough to intercept for Reiner, but the Solrock nevertheless barreled at the Crobat with a FLARE BLITZ. Paxton stumbled onto the fight, panting, eyes darting between pairs before landing on Eris. "You good here? I'm going to follow Joules and net those poachers before they escape!" he said, not even bothering to give her any orders. He just needed the criminals apprehended. [break][break]

Unbeknownst to him, Joules was busy corralling, said poachers while waiting for backup.

Altan's team up with Eris' Zeraora goes smoothly, and he's perfectly fine operating as back up for them and their younger trainer. Paxton and Joules worked well enough on their own, but they were aware he had more than enough other pokemon to help should he need it. While Reiner flails indecisively, Altan is quick to move in on the Crobat, smashing into it with another FLARE BLITZ and sending it straight into a tree.

Paxton meanwhile can only give Eris a quick nod before beginning to try to find his way towards Joules. The heard is threatening to stampede barely cornered by whatever chaos the poachers had left. The main issue, a wall of toxic spikes corralling the stantler, incomplete. Once they realized that they'd escape. Unfortunately, the bright green Stantler does, and wit ha yell it managed to catch the attention of the other panicking members of its herd before beginning to run out, straight at Reiner. He heard Eris' screamed but both Altan and Joules are too far to make it.

While Joules is busy beeping erratically trying to intimidate the capture poachers as well as reduce the amount of panic coming from the Stantler, Paxton just released his Corviknight into the fray. "Beaufort, the Luxray!" he ordered before the bird took off ready to swoop in. "Reiner! Reiner she's ok!" he shouted trying to get the panther pokemon to react. Frozen, perhaps by the chaos and the conflicting objectives, Paxton tried the next best thing. He puts a couple of fingers to his mouth before letting out a extremely sharp and extremely loud whistle before barking out a simple order. "COME HERE."
