In Mars’ own experience with wandering through the routes of Hoenn in search for elusive Psychic types, a Girafarig happens to be somewhat of a rare find. It may not be what he’s looking for, but the sight of it is surprising nevertheless, so much so that he spends a short moment watching it while sipping his coffee.

The pokémon grazes in a verdant patch of grass, unbothered by the presence of both the man and the Raichu by his side. The surfing rodent, in turn, floats closer to Mars, gently nudging his arm.

”I know, Notus.” It’s gently that he pets his companion, then continuing to walk down the path.

It doesn’t take long for them to encounter another wild pokémon, this time a Starmie not much different from some of the ones he himself owns. They’re a species Mars actually adores, and yet on this day, not one he’s interested enough in catching to just go and abandon his search.

Better to ignore it for now. Too keep going. After all, he has places to be, and these Unown sure won’t find themselves…

It’s when they’re about to reach Rustboro that Mars spots a slumbering Metang, and after looking at his watch to check the time, the decision that comes next is made easily enough.

He doesn’t have time to keep wandering around, so it’s better to leave with a pokémon than to do so empty-handed, right?

The ”ELECTRIC TERRAIN that overtakes the area does well to wake the wild pokémon with the static that suddenly fills the air, but the surfing Raichu is too fast when under such conditions, and before the Metang can even react, a bight ELECTRO BALL is sent its way.
