Born in the Mountain City of Blackthorne, Meabh is the youngest daughter of Leah and Cuán Kerrisk. She has two fraternal sisters born two years prior to her, who were named Keeva and Bridget Kerrisk respectively. Her mother Leah was pretty well-known in the area, because she was the head chef of a rather high-end restaurant. Meabh and her sisters became a bit spoiled in their tastes as a result, because they were raised on high quality food with only the freshest of ingredients. [break][break]One of Meabh's biggest regrets in life was that she never inherited her mother's talent for cooking. [break][break]Oh her mother tried to teach her sisters and her when they were old enough, but it turned out Meabh was not just bad at cooking but hilariously bad to the point where she even messed up boiling noodles. She left them on the stove for far too long until they turned to mush. Luckily for their mother, it turned out that her sister Bridget was every bit of a cooking prodigy as their Leah was. Cuán's career of choice was not as notable, he was a blue-collar worker at a local construction company. Blackthorne was often expanding as the city grew, so there was plenty of work to be found in the area. As it turned out, the split-level house where Meabh lived was only a few blocks away from her school.

[break][break]She was walking to school with her backpack on and carrying her lunchbag, which contained three small gourmet pinwheel sandwiches that were named for the shape, not the ingredients. There was a zipper that held her lunchbag closed and she foolishly hadn't zipped it up quite all the way. The smell of the sandwiches attracted the attention of a local pest, a gaunt and hungry Spearow that was desperate for food. The Spearow swooped down and tried the grab the strap of the bag and carry it away. [break][break]The problem was that Meabh had a firm grip on it at the time, and the bag was larger than the Spearow itself. What should have been a snatch and fly away, turned into a tug-of-war between the Spearow and the teenage girl. [break][break]The Spearow was weakened by lack of food and Meabh outweighed it, and she won the tug-of-war handily. The Spearow was forced to let go and circled above the girl, shrieking what Meabh assumed to be curses. She felt sorry for it and opened the zipper of the lunchbag far enough to get her hand inside. [break][break]She took out one of the three pinwheel sandwiches and tossed it onto the sidewalk next to her. The Spearow was quick to land and start pecking on it. Meabh realized she was going to be late for school and ran off to leave the spearow to its meal. From that day on, it became a regular routine. The Spearow would show up at the same spot on her way to school, and she started to bring extra food along just to feed it. Soon enough it became an escort, following her to school in the mornings, and following her home in the evenings. [break][break]It wasn't long before her friends and family noticed it too. She finally ended up telling her mother about the spearow and that she had been bringing extra food to feed it along the way and it had been following her ever since. Her mother suggested she try to capture it in that case, since competition for food for wild pokemon within city limits was pretty fierce. [break][break]Her mother was even helpful enough to provide her with a pokeball to do it. After all the food she had been feeding it and the bond they had slowly been forming, it turned out to be surprisingly easy for her to persuade the Spearow to join her. The Spearow became her shoulder pet throughout high school and he was small enough that her school allowed it, as long as he wasn't disruptive. [break][break]In her second last year of high school, she started dating a guy by the name of Declan Lawrence. It was very much a high school romance; the classic head over heels young love. They were totally smitten, enough so that he actually gifted her a bagon for her birthday. It wasn't just any Bagon but a bred pokemon, because Declan's father was a dragon pokemon breeder. [break][break]They teenage couple dated for over a year but that all changed when he suddenly became distant for no reason she could discern. Rumors began to swirl around the school that one of the more popular girls in one of her classes had been seen on the streets with him recently. She dared to confront him about it and he flipped out on her, seemingly getting angry that she didn't trust him. It all ended when one of her friends happened to see him kissing said girl on her way home from school. When he confronted him again, he finally admitted his guilt. [break][break]He told her he couldn't help that his feelings had changed and that he actually loved the other girl. She had apparently been flirting with him in class and had convinced him to walk her home and things had progressed from there. Meabh and Declan broke up, but he didn't ask for the Bagon back, most likely out of guilt.

The last pokemon she acquired in her final year of high school before graduation. She was on her way home from school when she noticed a sign regarding a pokemon fishing contest. The Winner would get a Gyarados, the runner up a Kingdra, and the third prize winner would get a Skrelp. All contestants would be allowed to take home the last pokemon they caught. Meabh decided to try it and was allowed the temporary borrow of a good rod for the duration of the contest. [break][break]She didn't have much experience with fishing and for the longest time she didn't get so much as a bite. She was about ready to give up, when the tip of the good rod suddenly went down. The wild pokemon put up a bit of a fight but it was small and before long she reeled in a tiny white pokemon. When she went to remove it from the line, she got a mild shock and nearly tropped it. It turned out she had caught a little Tynamo. She did not catch anything else, but she was allowed to take the Tynamo home with her and given a pokeball for it.
[break][break]Meabh graduated from high school with no idea what she wanted to do with her life. Cooking wasn't an option, and she wasn't interested in construction work. She was average across the board in her grades, with no strong talents in any one area to speak of. It was her sister Bridget that gave her the idea to try becoming a pokemon trainer. After all, she had three pokemon, which was more than enough to start with. Meabh was amenable to the idea, though she wasn't sure about how good of a trainer she would be. [break][break]Before she could make her mind up, Leah sprang some surprise news on the whole family. She'd gotten a really lucrative job offer to be the head chef of a five star restaurant...but they wanted her to work at one of their locations in the Hoenn region because their head chef had just retired. She had discussed it with their father and had decided to accept the offer. They were all moving to the Hoenn region. Normally she would have been upset, but with no boyfriend to hold her there and a whole new region to explore, she was up for the move. She finally made up her mind and decided she would start on her journey as soon as the move was completed. [break][break]In the weeks leading up to the scheduled move, she decided to test her ability as a potential trainer against some of the local trainers in her area. She was soundly defeated the first time, losing in a 2v2 battle. It was her Spearow and Bagon vs the opponent's Electrike and Fraxure. [break][break]She did learn a valuable lesson though, especially when it came to type advantages. She did try another 2v2 battle against a less experienced trainer. That time her pokemon faced off against a Goomy and a Poliwag. It was a battle she came close to winning but the Poliwag had been taught a powerful move that shot her Spearow out of the air with water. She spent the next few weeks challenging as many trainers as she could, even though she did take quite a few losses due to inexperience. [break][break]Two days before she was set to move, a complete surprise happened. Her Bagon soundly defeated a Axew and turned a dazzling white before evolving into a Shelgon in front of her very eyes. Her ex-boyfriend had apparently given her a fairly experienced Bagon. She got a similar shock a few weeks later, when she challenged a Hoenn trainer for the first time. Apparently the fact that her Spearow had managed to defeat a Treecko, in combination with all the battles from before they left, was enough to allow her Spearow to evolve.
