the ranger request is forwarded to matias, who's just about to head home for the day when his phone buzzes. he reads it, sighs, then shoots a text back to Laurence Anderson.

you're lucky i'm already in the area.

off he goes.

it doesn't take him long to arrive at slateport beach atop his charizard. they descend, landing next to the beached wailord and the assumed ranger on duty.

"hello! i'm matias. i'm here to help with this big guy here."

he places his palm on the wailord.

francie had, while matias was on his way, managed to get a giant harness situated around the wailord via a few of her bulkier pokémon, with her aerodactyl being harnessed up as well, to help support the weight.

"hello!" she greeted with a bright smile. she pushed some of her hair from her face, successfully getting sand in it. several smudges proved she'd clearly been working hard while he traveled. "my name's francie myrtle. we've got the wailord situated into a harness. my plan's to use a mega evolution to make my aerodactyl strong enough to carry the weight of the wailord-- think your charizard could do the same?"

she spoke so casually about the miracle that was mega evolution-- but then, suddenly, her eyes were distracted.

"sick tattoos by the way holy shnikies man, must've hurt."

"holy schnikies?"

he blinks.

"...i don't think i've ever heard anyone say that before."

after a moment of composing himself again, he clears his throat, nodding.

"sure. we'll evolve on your mark."

charizard huffs in agreement.

he was the more experienced ranger, but he had given her the authority on this one. perhaps because she was first to the scene? made sense. francie would have done the same thing, had, most of the time.

"thanks! alright, tilly! positions please!"

hearing her name, the aerodactyl gave a small whine of a noise, moving over toward francie. raising her mega-bracelet and placing tilly's megastone within, the beast transformed before them. the harness was placed expertly, francie clearly knew the beast's mega-form well enough to know where the spikes would protrude.

once francie was mounted up on tilly's back, the mega aerodactyl shook herself a bit and then sat up a bit more straight, wings at the ready.

"soon as you get your charizard harnessed and evolved, we'll head up!" she told matias before looking to the other of her pokémon. "burrow under the ground if you have too, summon water, but help us get this beast lifted up out of the sand once we're in the air."

they all gave their own form of acknowledgement to their trainer.

it's mostly because matias is far from being a ranger. his first instinct, if he's the only one responding to this situation, is to smack the wailord back into the water. this seems like the more civilized approach.

less efficient, though.

nodding, matias quickly secures the harness around his charizard, then hops back on the fire-type. he taps on his shoulder, then braces himself as energies start swirling around them.

now MEGA EVOLVED, charizard's presence summons a DROUGHT.

"sorry! it'll be hot for a bit. but we're ready."

"that's alright! could use the warmth on a day like this anyway."

it's cold, it's winter, and the warmth makes francie feel a little more relaxed. she gives tilly a small pat, smiling and kissing the rough skin while avoiding getting an eye poked out by there mega-spikes.

"leggo tills!"

the mega evolved aerodactyl gave a screech before flapping her wings and raising, sure to move in sync with matias' charizard to pick up the giant whale. the help from francie's other rock pokemon was helpful, the drednaw and the carracosta making sure the whale was guided into the deeper waters a bit more easily, following on the sand at first and then into the water.

"there's a release on the side! on three, we can drop it nice and easy into the waters! sound good?"
