A navy blue windbreaker, sweatpants, chunky sneakers, and an exercise band wrapped tightly around short blonde hair wasn't typically how Atlas liked to present himself to a pretty girl. To be fair, however, the context, that being exercise, called for it. Though it still didn't save him the embarrassment of being a sweaty mess.

Honestly, though: who enjoyed taking a run on Mt. Chimney? Even during wintertime, it was hot! He'd only had the bright idea from a cop who was in really good shape back at the Slateport precinct.

Speaking of 'cops', GOODCOP the MORPEKO cheered him on from his shoulder as he trudged up a somewhat steep, rocky incline. Though that cheering shifted into curiosity as they approached the unknown female (Rae Rançon ) standing at the top. Despite gasping for air, Atlas manages to voice a greeting as he waves. "H-Hey there! Know how much longer... to the summit?"

WINTER WISHES MISSION: ROCKY STEPS

She takes a breath of the mountain air. The crispness of winter she felt at the bottom and the snow piled up around where they entered the trail are gone in favor of the heat radiating out of the volcano. Still, it's refreshing being in the wild like this and going for a nice little hike, and both Rae and BURST the GENGAR have big smiles on their faces.[break]

Even as far from the peak as they are, she's still exerting herself and can feel the heat of the volcano. Her coat has been removed and tied around her waist, leaving her in just a tank top and fleece pants. Her hair's tied back into a ponytail and a thin layer of sweat is visible on her skin. As beckett carlson approaches, she lets out a little laugh at his sorry state and his question.[break]

She looks up the mountain and lets him take a breath. "Oh, I dunno. Seems like we're about... halfway?" She pulls out a water bottle out of her bag, holding it out to him. "You good? Need a break?"

Only halfway?! It felt like they'd been on the mountain for an eternity!

With nothing but appreciative nods, and heaving breaths to accompany them, Atlas kindly accepts her offer of a water bottle. He hardly manages to straighten in posture before cracking it open and chugging its refreshing contents, though the need to breath again forces him to accidentally dribble some over his chin. Goodcop seizes the bottle from his hand afterwards as he pulls out a rag from his pack.

"Pwgyah... sorry you had to see that," He abashedly laughs, patting his face dry. "But thanks for the water. I ran out about ten minutes into my power hike." A pretty sorry thing to admit, especially when he started to notice she wasn't looking as worse for wear as he was. "Hey... a-are you an athlete, or something? You look pretty unfazed by the scenery, considering..."

His Morpeko drains the last of the water in his bottle before casting it down to the ground with a refreshed gasp. Atlas pauses from the conversation briefly to scold the hamster, then bends down to retrieve it before stuffing it away into his pack for recycling later.

WINTER WISHES MISSION: ROCKY STEPS

She pulls another bottle out of her pack and leans against a nearby boulder, taking a small sip. Even though she’s sweating and warm, the heat of the rock is nice and she melts into it a little, enjoying the warmth. [break]

“Yeah, I am. Decided I wanted to try the hike, get out for some fresh air instead of having to work out inside and the volcano seemed like the warmest place.” She looks up at the peak again. “Never been up here, but I’ve heard there’s an open pit of lava. That’s wicked cool.”[break]

She thinks about warning him against drinking too fast, but by the time she’s about to open her mouth, his Morpeko has taken control of the water bottle and it’d too late.[break]

“So, uh,” she says, thinking of a way to put what she’s about to say nicely. She can’t find it. “What brings you up here? I know you said you were here for a power hike but you don’t exactly seem prepared for the climb.”

No surprise there! Though her endurance in the face of such a powerful natural force was still plenty remarkable. "You're wicked cool..." He mutters absentmindedly, snapping himself out of that fascinated stupor shortly thereafter. "I mean, yeah! Though I wouldn't exactly call the place 'cool', if you get my drift."

Because it's hot as hell! HA-HA. What a knee-slapper.

Regardless of his hilarious jokes and golden humor, however, Rae still manages to nick his pride as she regards his current state in the face of such a challenge. Atlas doesn't care to hide it either, gripping at his wounded heart in an over-exaggerated gesture. "Ow? You think I'm fat or something?" He pitifully asks, grabbing the hem of his shirt and lifting it to show her his bare abs.

"These muscles just weren't meant for cardio, I'll have you know!" The blonde argues, casting his shirt back down before laughing. His Morpeko, in the meantime, clambers onto his head and pulls onto his hair. Slowly, its features begin to shift...

She stares at him blankly. Whether it’s because she didn’t get the joke or didn’t find it funny, the world may never know. She flashes him a smile and flexes at him, teasing. “Yeah, I’m pretty cool. Y’know, it’s just always come natural.”[break]

She glances down at his abs, laughing with him. “Hmm. I guess I did. You proved me wrong. Still though,” she says, grinning She pulls up her tank top a little to show her own abs, much less well defined than Atlas’s but still visible. “What’s the use of all that muscle if a little hill is gonna take you out?” [break]

She looks him up and down warily. He seems better, but she better keep an eye on him. She doesn't want to have to carry him down the mountain. [break]

She looks at his Morpeko. She’d never seen one before, so she was caught a little off guard by it. “Uh..,” she says tentatively. “I think your rat is doing something. Is it supposed to do that?”

The joke doesn't land (double 'ow'), but hey! He can appreciate her confidence. Sure, it may have come off as shameless bragging to some, but Atlas was adept at practicing some of his own from time-to-time. He found it endearing.

He's further impressed, however, when she lifts her tank a little to reveal her own abs. Bright eyes widen with awe and appreciation. "Woah! Not bad, dude!" Though as soon as she jabs at him again, he pulls back and lightly huffs.

"I mean, you're not wrong... but that's why I'm here! Being a detective isn't just jumping into fights, anyway. It actually involves a lot of cardio when you chase the bad guys, and—"

He's interrupted when, suddenly, his Morpeko's face becomes a rapid blur as it morphs and changes. Stifled by heat, and irritated by a seemingly insatiable hunger, GOODCOP becomes BADCOP: his nastier persona.

"Oh, shii—"

Atlas is given very little time to respond before it starts pulling on his hair and yanking his ear with its front teeth. He staggers about helplessly in an effort to pull it off, nearly running into Rae on occasion. "Gaaah!"

She watches the shift happen with wide eyes. She’d seen Pokemon change form before, but this was something else. The way the sweet little thing turned into that…[break]

Rae appreciates Atlas, sure. He seemed to not be put off by her shameless bragging. She appreciates that. He seems like someone she can spend time with and she knows he must have great stories from being a detective that she'd love to hear.[break]

But why on Earth would he keep that ticking time bomb with him?[break]

When he stumbles near her, she grabs on to the Morpeko, shaking it to try and dislodge it from Atlas’s ear. She’s ready to help but not get up close with whatever demon possessed it. She’s worried about him being eaten, but not enough to turn it’s ire onto her. She eventually dislodges it, holding the squirming rodent at arm’s length.[break]

“What,” she says, panting from the effort of holding onto it. Burst the Gengar floats around it, cackling at the restrained Badcop as it struggles for freedom. “Is this? Why’s it mad? How do you stop it?”

Groans of pain erupt from Atlas' mouth as she pries Badcop off of him. The little bastard clings tightly to his locks of blonde hair in a vain attempt to resist, but they eventually slip through its grubby little fingers and give way. The detective sighs with relief afterward.

As Rae holds it at arm's length, and asks him why he would travel with such a mean demon on his shoulder, Atlas grumbles and fixes his hair with his hands. "He's not always like that, but I guess he might be hungry or too hot." He reasons. "Whenever he throws fits like these, it does wonders to get a confession out of someone guilty, though..."

Remembering that he's mad at the Morpeko, however, he drops his hands and shoots it a glare. "Back in your ball for timeout, you ass-munch!" He chastises, pulling out a reinforced dark ball before returning the rodent in a flash of shadow. It disappears with an irate string of unintelligible curses.

After clipping the ball onto his belt, Atlas turns back to Rae and abashedly rubs the back of his neck. "Thanks, by the way. Now I feel bad for having interrupted your run!" He chuckles. Ironically, Badcop's assault had reinvigorated him.

She hunches over when Badcop returns to its ball, out of breah and slightly snickering at Atlas calling the little hellspawn an ass-munch. It wasn’t a bad description, but she certainly wasn’t expecting it. “Yeah, if I was a criminal on the receiving end of that thing, I’d probably just lay down and die. Would scare the shit out of me.”[break]

As Rae recovers, Burst’s laughter only grows louder. It was quite an entertaining show for the Gengar, from the attack on Atlas to the choice words the Morpeko used while it was forced back in it’s ball. Rae, hands on her knees, shoots a look at it to tell it to shut up. Burst, for what it’s worth, makes it about ten seconds before he starts giggling again.[break]

It doesn’t take her long to recover and soon she’s almost back at full energy, though the struggle had taken a physical toll on her. Her hair was loose from it’s ponytail and a few little scratches line her face and arms wherever Badcop could reach her. “Nah, you’re fine,” she says, waving him off. “Besides, it was kinda boring with just me. Wanna head for the summit together?”

The blonde isn't sure whether to apologize to Rae or thank her for the comment. Regardless, he awkwardly laughs it off per usual, shifting that laughter towards the Gengar having a gay old time nearby. The Ghost-type seemed far more of a delightful sort than Badcop.

The chuckling stops on his part when he notices a few little scratch marks on Rae, and he rummages through his pack as she answers him. Pulling out a travel-sized bottle of potion spray, he offers it to her with an apologetic smile. "For..." The man trails off, pointing at his face to show her where Badcop had left his mark. Zipping up his bag to show her she could keep the spray, he nods.

"Sorry you got caught up in that... but yeah! Lead the way. I'll, uh... I'll try to keep up, hehe..."
