New month, new safari. And the selection was particularly good this time around, enough for Yvette to plan another trip or two before the rotation ended. She clipped her three Safari Balls to her belt as she left the building, already scanning the trees for her next catch.

Oh, this was perfect.

Yvette expanded a Pokéball in her hand and released the Treecko she’d caught on her last visit in a flash of red. ”Don’t knock it out yet!” The gecko nodded, then rushed forward to meet her opponent.

The Chingling turned to face the other Pokémon curiously, only to met with a powered-down Energy Ball to the face.

The effect was immediate. Big, wet tears formed in the Chingling’s beady eyes, and it opened its mouth to let out a shrill wail that quite literally rang throughout the enclosure. Trainer and Pokémon both covered their ears to block out the noise, but despite the pain, a satisfied smirk still found its way onto Yvette’s face.

An Uproar like that was sure to attract all sorts of things now.

”Alright, finish it!” The Treecko was all too happy to. She lowered her hands and summoned another whirling green orb, launching it at the crying Chingling and knocking it clean out for her trainer to capture.

Just as expected, the Chingling’s distress had indeed summoned something.

An Oshawott came to the baby Pokémon’s defense, too late to save it from capture, but ready to avenge it. It appeared with a hero’s flourish, sharpening its scalchop with a Swords Dance and seemingly challenging Yvette and her Treecko to a duel.

”Well aren’t you cool. Treecko! Take it out quick with Energy Ball!”

The gecko obliged, not holding back this time as she thrust one of the spinning green balls at the Oshawott. Her opponent made no move to avoid however, instead raising its scalchop as a shield and protecting itself with its Shell Armor.

It raced towards the Treecko in retaliation, swiping out at her with its scalchop in a series of quick slashes. Detecting the unexpected danger of its Fury Cutter, she dodged the first few blows before flipping away to put more distance between the two.

Yvette whistled, impressed. Now she really wanted this one. ”Let’s show it how we do it!” Her Treecko nodded, planting an innocuous seed in the ground, before quickly circling the wild Pokémon with the afterimages of her Double Team.

Undeterred, the Oshawott lashed out at the illusions with its scalchop, dispersing them one-by-one until only the real Treecko remained. It slowly approached its foe, weapon raised, then promptly fell over, succumbing to effects of their Leech Seed.

Dirty? Yes.

Effective? Hell yes.

Their victory was short-lived, however, as Yvette’s Treecko Detected the sound of something speeding their way, narrowly dodging the tire-like fire that burst from the tree line a half second later. Their new opponent, an especially hyperactive Cyndaquil, revealed itself for only a split second as it screeched to a halt, before doing a full 180 and charging at the gecko with another Flame Wheel.

This time Yvette returned her Pokémon at the last second, replacing it in the same instant with her Clamperl. The Cyndaquil slammed into her shell again and again, but failed to penetrate her Iron Defense. Frustrated, it stopped directly in front of the bivalve, its back smoking heavily as the holes began to glow much brighter than before.

Which was just what Yvette had wanted.

”Clamp, quickly!” Her Clamperl suddenly sprung open, snapping shut around the other Pokémon just before it Erupted inside of her, knocking out them both out in the muted explosion.

Not the most elegant solution, but a win was a win.
