Her gold eyes scan Mirri's as though looking for something. Mattie leans back, her body language relaxing but her eyes still locked on the knight's. "I think lots of people need you. They may be embarrassed about needing you, like your brother, so they don't say anything about it, but you're a Ranger, a knight - more people need you than you might think." Matilda says this with all the confidence of someone who's known Mirri for years, rather than someone who'd just met her this evening. "I don't know where I'd be without the Rangers to be perfectly honest." [break][break]

Taika grins at Matilda, then sets a hand on Mirri's arm and looks up at her with wide, trusting eyes. "To-togepi, togepi togepi," she tells the knight reassuringly, as though the woman can understand what she's saying.

The sight of Mirri's smile brings Matilda a smile of her own - but the mention of the other woman's self-entitlement makes the smile immediately drop. She shakes her head in disagreement, but doesn't interrupt. [break][break]

Meeting the other woman's gaze for a long moment after Mirri's question, Matilda weighs her options on what to say next. She finally decides on answering the question; she could readdress the other things later.[break][break]

"Well, it's because of the Rangers that I actually met my best friend Dom!" Matilda's face lights up a bit when she mentions him. "Our hometown ran Ranger Training programs for kids every summer, and we both started in second grade. There was a partner project we were all assigned. After everyone paired up, it was just him and me left." Matilda smiles and sips her drink. "We clicked so well we were inseperable after that. He officially joined the Rangers right out of high school, and I started working at my aunt's clinic, but we still saw each other all the time. I'd take him meals, and whenever anything was wrong with a Ranger's Pokemon Dom would bring them right to me for a checkup."[break][break]

Karaoke songs continue as the two women converse under the stars until well into the night. Matilda asks Mirri all about her family and her work with the Rangers, but as time goes by she relaxes and begins asking more personal questions as well, careful to wave off any that seem to make her companion uncomfortable. Taika spends most of the evening cuddling with Mirri, enjoying the attention from her new friend, and Dziban has great fun playing in Matilda's hair and playfully scaring any young children who pass by. Before they part, Mattie is sure to give Mirri her number so they can stay in touch.
