The second landing was softer than the first.[break][break]

Bailey could feel the heat; its inscription tracing over the skin with a firmness that alerted her to its manifestation. Skin charcoal-coated to black; she flexed her fingers just to stare at the lines that ran like grooves.[break][break]

Then, the energy. Rolling deep into her very core, she was able to ignore the same fatigue that had made it so hard for her to hold her own weight. She turned, positioning herself onto her knees as she stared down into the churning magma that had awaited her.[break][break]

Mascara smeared from her tears, and she palmed a hand to her face as she gazed at Groudon.[break][break]

“You... saved me,” and her newfound energy pulsed with a warmth than felt oddly familiar to what she experienced at Mossdeep.[break][break]

This was her own power—for now.[break][break]

“Thanks,” and her newly marked hand slicked her hair, trying to keep the blood, grime, and tears from spreading to her hair.[break][break]

She stood, just to stare at herself; palms open as she reflected on their state of disrepair. Skin split like blood, and it stuck...but now traced with primal carvings. “And... thanks for this, too?”[break][break]

Her gaze only broke from the Legendary when she heard the familiar flapping of Tink's wings. The fairy remained perched at the edge, staring down at her disheveled trainer with a caring but critical gaze.[break][break]

The pokemon refused to fly down, opting to keep Smalls away from the radiant heat; her marshmallow-like protests urging her to get out of the volcanic pit.[break][break]

“Yeah, yeah... I'll be up in a minute. Wouldn't want to piss you off.”[break][break]

A bloodied hand pressed to the stone wall, and gently—clumsily—she tapped into her gift and sought to create another edge for her to step onto. It felt intrinsic. It felt natural.[break][break]

One, then another.[break][break]

A staircase of earth-like blades, rising to the brim. She could hobble her way up its incline.[break][break]

But, she doesn't.[break][break]

Bailey turned, eye-level with the Legendary.[break][break]

“You know... That can include you, too,” and she extended out her hand, welcoming.[break][break]

“I'm Bailey.” Her smile was bright.

THE GROUDON'S GAZE IS INTENSE. where the creature lacks in personable warmth, it makes up in grand solemnity. the gravity of what has just transpired is simultaneously thrilling and terrifying, for the groudon has roped Bailey Cooper into something grander than what she can perceive.[break][break][break]

as piggie smalls stirs weakly on tink's back, the groudon accepts her greeting. the behemoth does not speak, but does enough to communicate acceptance. a stray glance falls to the bright crystal and then to bailey, herself.[break][break][break]

perhaps, the groudon is greedy, desiring that energies that have been siphoned into her vessel; however, still, there is more looming in the horizon that the groudon can sense. as their relationship is confirmed, the beast allows her to capture him.[break][break][break]

“The strong and silent type? Alright, I can work with that,” and she would take an empty capsule, feeling a moment of trepidation as she looked from the small pokeball to the monolith that loomed before her.[break][break]

They used to believe that these were gods—the world still rattled with old faith and old tradition. The mythos of these monsters were not known to her, but she knew of them.[break][break]

And she knew that this would be crossing a line.[break][break]

If this was one of the old progenitors, if this was one of the forces that shaped this very world—[break][break]

Then what would that make her?[break][break]

A fool.[break][break]

She threw her capsule.[break][break]

It hit the ground, shaking, trembling, as it absorbed something with a strength that her brain could not fully comprehend; its click signifying a concession, not a victory.[break][break]

Just as she had borrowed the primal power that marked her body, so would she borrow this.[break][break]

Bailey scooped Groudon's capsule into her hand, feeling its weight even if it was as light as a normal pokeball.[break][break]

“I think I'll call you Clifford.” The audacity made her smile.[break][break]

She scaled the cliff, trying to ignore the pain of her injuries as she planted her foot onto the flat expanse of land, marking her ascension; behind her, she cast one last look to the rainbow-like crystal and its beauty.[break][break]

“...Maybe I'll come back for that?”[break][break]

Rocks crumbled, and with it, the crystal tumbled further into the depths.[break][break]

“Fuck.” Nevermind.[break][break]

She turned to Tink, and then to Piggie Smalls. She smiled, and as she got to one knee to inspect the two of them, it was as if something heavy had been lifted from her shoulders.[break][break]

She felt alive. She felt... better.[break][break]

She would pat Piggie Smalls, and then capture him in a capsule, as she had originally intended.[break][break]

“Alright Tink, let's head home.”
