Fun places like these were only ever fantasized in Toshiaki’s wildest dreams. Before he couldn’t go to these events as freely as he wanted, and even when he had the opportunity, he felt severely out of place. A burning star forced to be ordinary on the sidelines.[break][break]
Well, no more of that. He’s going to have fun![break][break]
“Woah, look! It’s perfect!”[break][break]
Toshi stands back tall, proud of his work. Lilith didn’t look very amused with him, but the snow-white Eevee ears were downright adorable on her! He laughs heartily, adjusting the Pikachu ears atop his own head.[break][break]
“Don’t worry, Lils. Have I ever led you astray? We’ll have fun. I promise!”[break][break]
Toshiaki held out his hand for her to hold, if she wished to grab onto it. Mainly for his sake, because he can get too excited and accidentally leave others behind.. Slateport City was easy to get lost in too, especially with how busy it was with the fair that came to town.[break][break]

[attr="class","hanatext"]He's lucky that she somewhat appreciates his presence. The last person that had so much as tried to touch her had gotten winded from a merciless punch to the guts.

"It's embarrassing, that's what it is..." Instead, she gives him a quiet glare, huffing a little as she hugs her Wooloo close to her chest. "We could have gone anywhere else."

Still, she sees how excited he is, the inner child bubbling up from deep within and crashing right through the surface. Who is she to trample on his hopes and dreams?

His offer of a hand is regarded with a look, but gently refused by her moving onwards. After all these years, holding hands seems like such a childish and foreign concept. She doesn't really need anyone to lead her, nor does she trust anyone enough to let them.

"You're a bit hard to lose track of when your head and..." she gestures to the Pikachu ears he wears, "stick up over the crowd."

“Yeah.. but this is a seasonal fair! Who knows if it’ll come around again.” [break][break]
That inner child of his was eager to come at whenever the opportunity fit, even during times when it didn’t. They were both unfortunate to be born with limited freedom. However, now that they have a vague taste of it, letting it go to waste would be almost unforgivable. Wouldn’t it?[break][break]
Lilith declines his outreached hand, which he figured would happen, but it doesn’t deter him from lightly pinching the end of her clothing to keep ahold of her. Always playing the lost puppy card.[break][break]
“..Thank you for coming with me. I mean that.” His smile is subtle, a mix of gratitude and melancholy embedded in it’s curves.[break][break]
“I know it’s pretty selfish of me, draggin’ you here. Like yeah, fairs are fun. But honestly? I took you here, because I like you under the sun a lot better than you hidin’ yourself away.”[break][break]
Maybe now would be a good time for that merciless gut punch. He’ll take whatever she dishes at him. But first —[break][break]
“OH! They’ve got the riffle game here!” He turns to Lilith, grinning wide as he pounds a fist against his chest. “A’right, leave it to me! Which prize do you want? I’ll win you anything you want.”[break][break]

After all, Hoenn is far too popular a tourist destination for any travelling fair to turn away from. Try as hard as she may to forget such things, fragments of business lessons drilled into her never fail to rise to the surface. And yet, all it takes is one strange sentence from him for her to be entirely distracted.

It starts with staring, a mild questioning look slowly spreading over her features as she narrows her gaze.

"What's wrong with staying indoors and reading? The sun's too bright and it beats getting run down by startled Bouffalant." She mutters, turning away at her Wooloo's sudden outcry. Rubia claps her hooves together, bleating and pointing at the many food and game stores ahead.

"No preference." Though her answer is dry and sharp, there's no mistaking how her eyes are still drawn to the stufftoys and little knickknacks all around. She takes in a deep breath and gently sinks her face into Rubia's wool. "Shoot your best shot."

A cold as ice personality striped straight from the Crown Tundra, sharp tongue like a Seviper to match. There were many ways to describe Lilith. Though, none of these traits could deter Toshiaki away from her. After all, the sun needs the moon to survive in its rotating cycle. Otherwise it would prove to be a pretty lonesome existence.[break][break]
“Huh? Did you get run over by a Bouffalant at your last state fair or somethin’?” [break][break]
He raises a brow , puzzled by the statement. Though his good mood quickly resurfaces at the rambunctious Wooloo wiggling in her arms. How spirited! [break][break]
He laughs heartily. “Right on, Rubia! We’ll have a blast. Turn your trainer’s frown upside down!”[break][break]
Toshiaki settles near the booth. It was your stand shooting range game, the same type they had at the traditional festivals back in the Johto region. He had experience under his belt now, he could win a prize from here easily! Toshiaki was more observant than he let on. He saw her eying an cutesy Teddiursa doll, and was all the more determined to win it for her.[break][break]
“Three perfect shots? No problem!” He affirms, prepping the toy rifle into position. Before he starts, he looks straight at Lilith with a huge goofy grin. “Hey? Today, I promise that I’ll make you smile.”[break][break]

Silence befalls them as she lets Toshiaki line up his shot, her eyes wandering towards the game master and his Espeon. Is it habit or just her gut instincts? To have wariness faintly worn upon her lips when she looks to the psychic-type, to have her fingers twitch as she listens to Toshi's sappy words.

"Don't make promises you can't keep..." Murmuring, she's sure she feels a little bad for shutting him down like that, but she's unable to express the guilt past that icy demeanour she possesses. "Just make sure you have fun before worrying about me."

Icy cold as she may be, Toshiaki enjoys spending his free time with Lilith. It brings him back to a simpler time, before the world was a place too big for a child to bear. Keeping focus, his finger lies on the trigger just itching to pull.[break][break]

That’s one bottle down![break][break]
He grins then tunes back into Lilith’s words. Now, he seems a bit confused. Toshiaki turns his head, blinking.[break][break]
“What do you mean? I am having fun. I always have fun whenever we’re together.”[break][break]
So earnest and sweet. He doesn’t realize how cutely honest he sounds half the time. Toshiaki grins, getting back into the zone of the game. “But if you’re that worried then I’ll win prizes for the both of us! Fair enough?”[break][break]

What she meant, but she can only squint as she reconsiders how to phrase this and comes up with nothing good.

"Do what you want..." Eventually, she gives up with a sigh, watching as he readies another shot. "And where are you going to place your prize? Does your room even have enough space?"

It's at that moment where Rubia starts to kick a fuss, bleating repeatedly as she flails a hoof at the bottles. While most would probably tell their pokemon to calm down or attempt to recall them into their pokeballs, Lilith seems most content to let the Wooloo speak her mind, watching attentively until she finally settles.

"Sure you can win when the game's rigged?"

Behind the counter, the Espeon's ears flick and the game master gifts a warm smile that pays no heeds to her comments.

Another bottle down to the count. Just one more for the grand prize! He laughs. “Don’t worry, I’ll find room somewhere!”

If anything a giant prize could go on his bed or something. [break][break]
Though at her next words, he’s taken back. “Huh, rigged? That would be wrong.”[break][break]
Toshiaki replies innocently, not a hint of sarcasm in his tone. Despite being no stranger to it this boy is still naive to the cruel ways of the world, it seems. “Besides, the Espeon’s there to make sure people play fairly!”[break][break]
He goes to take aim once again, until he hears a Pokeball pop open from his belt.[break][break]
“Eh? What’s up, Nero?”[break][break]
Just as he turns, his finger hits the trigger by accident. The bullet aims right for the prized bottle, which the Espeon moves to stop ---[break][break]
Up until Umbreon stands on his all fours, ears perked and interested to see what was up.[break][break]
Espeon trills, and distracted, doesn’t keep the bottle that knocks over in place..[break][break]
The game master gasps, flabbergasted. Toshiaki turns back, then grins.[break][break]
“See? Totally fair. Oh look! I knocked down the final one!” He laughs, pointing toward the Teddiursa plush. “Alright then. I’ll take that one, please!”[break]

It takes just about all of her while not to snort at the very spectacle, or Toshiaki's innocence for that matter.

"I can see that." Something along the lines of a sigh pulled awry by a smirk escapes her instead, her palms momentarily brushing over her face as she tries to process this twist of events. "I think that Teddiursa should go to Nero for all that he's done."

And just as the game master glares at the Umbreon, she finally dares to step close to the booth, slipping a token of her own right over the counter. He grunts but hands her the toy rifle regardless, shuffling about to reset the stage.

"I guess I could give it a go... that's why you dragged me along, isn't it?"
