She should have expected as much from him, he wasn't in his position of power for no reason. Should she mega evolve her Pokémon as well? No, that was not necessary, three on one versus a mega evolved Pokémon was fair enough. Especially when he was so quickly able to dispatch her attack.[break][break]

"I see." she comments "But there's much more where that came from." she said as her pokemon continued the endless assault. Above Melody hung the name of the challenge. "OH, YOU'RE APPROACHING ME?" she said as the music looped over and started again. [break][break]

Her pokemon used overdrive once more, and this time Primarina primarina aimed an attack at metagross as well. This time a hyper voice joining the chorus of attacks to enhance overdrive even further. "I hope you don't think you can last forever!"

“Brace!” was the only thing he would shout as he hung on for dear life, the Metagross letting out a grating noise as the airborne silver beast charged forward—

And the music started over.

“We have to get to where she is, and soon!” he continued, flattening himself and bracing himself as the sound-based attack grew even louder—

There was nothing else to it, they would have to get close in order for the Metagross to unleash the best attack that he had in his arsenal while hanging on for dear life as the sound-based attack shook both rider and Pokémon; watching as two of the four arms reared back and threw a Meteor Mash at the closest Pokémon that he could reach!

At the same time, Lars grit his teeth, because the sound was so loud it was vibrating and ringing in his ears.

• this gonna be so loud he’s gonna go deaf if he doesn’t stop the music, soon!
• Lars and the mega-evolved Metagross get hit by the really loud sound wave, however there’s nothing to it
• they gotta get closer!
• Metagross hovered closer thanks to Magnet Rise (2 / 5) and reared back before unleashing a Tough Claws-boosted Meteor Mash at the closest Pokémon they can reach!

The duo managed to get through Melody's barrage it seems and covered some decent ground. Due to the fact that he was hovering Melody's options to stop him became very limited. [break][break]

Toxtricity leapt into the path of the meteor mash to try and stop it. However, the Tough claws and the mega evolution's power behind his moves proved to help get him closer to ambushing the stage. He was now 2/3rds of the way there now, melody had to go all out before he managed to ambush her stage so easily. "Alright you guys! Time for the big finale! GO ALL OUT!" [break][break]

Primarina gathered her energy up into her maw, before unleashing her most devastating move. Hydro cannon. The toxtricity twins then worked in tandem to charge that attack with their own element, using overdrive once more.

“Che cazzo,” were the only words out of him as this time, the Primarina took to the charge and tried to swat them down with an incoming Hydro Cannon attack—this was going to spell either a few things:

1. There was the potential of an Electric-type attack coming from either of the Toctricity;
2. There was also the possibility that the Primarina might use a Z-Move; and
3. This also included the caveat that Ro’s Mega Evolved state would be running out if he didn’t end this quickly.

The options were looking pretty slim for him, and the only plausible thing he could do was—

Slapping both hands down on Ro’s flat head, that was the sign for the Metagross to go all-out as well; never mind if he would be blasted off—he could still be able to grab onto one of Ro’s multiple legs in the process if that happened—as this time, the Metagross aimed another Meteor Mash, this time at the Primarina while tanking the Water-type attack that was headed their way.

Come hell, or high water, or whatever else, Lars was determined to close the distance!

• time to go full reckless mode
• Lars then signals to his Metagross to fly forward, regardless of the danger
• Metagross is coming in thanks to Magnet Rise (3 / 5) and attempts to aim a tough Claws-boosted Meteor Mash at the main source of the incoming Water-type attacker: the Primarina

And close the distance he did. Lar's meteor mash collided with Melody's hydro cannon and even though her move's power was stronger, the gap in power was closed due to the fact Lar's pokemon was mega evolved. Welp, she knew she lost. [break][break]

The hydro cannon was cut through like butter trying to stand up against a hot knife. Metagross and lars cut through the attack and managed to make it onto the stage. The music cutting off and confetti firing onto the stage itself, melody stopped playing and clapped for the two of them. "You did it! You managed to approach me!" she said joyfully. [break][break]

She recalled her pokemon. "Those damn mega evolutions, get me every time." she muttered under her breath. [break][break]

"But! Congratluations nonetheless! I knew you'd do well lars and sooooo." she said emphasizing the so ever so slightly just to stall for time as she dug around in her back pocket. "Ouch." she said pinching herself on the pin as she drew out the badge. She sucked on her finger to stop the bleeding and with her good hand held out the badge, nudging it into the air to tell lars to accept it. [break][break]

Once he accepted it and her finger stopped bleeding, Melody cleared her throat. "On my authority as Sootopolis's gym leader, I Melody Miro deem you worthy of the Rhythmn badge. Do you accept it?" she said waiting for his response.

Just in time, too—

The moment they’d finally managed to land on stage, the energy surrounding the Metagross faded, and he was soon atop a normal-sized Metagross once again.

“In the nick of time, you mean, no Pokémon can hold a Mega-evolved form for longer than what, three turns? At least that’s what I noticed,” he remarked as he climbed off Ro’s back and gave the shining silver beast a thankful pat on one of his legs.

Seeing that she’d accidentally pricked herself on whatever it was she was pulling out of her pocket, he then fished around in his own pocket and pulled out a band-aid.

“You guys should really be more careful with those badges,” he said with a chuckle as he held out the band-aid for her to take.

And then, a few moments later—

“Of course I accept the badge, although I do want to give Ro here all the credit, without him I’d never have gotten here all by myself!” he exclaimed, giving the Metagross another grateful pat.
