It’s not too far into their nap that Eva stirs. A sixth sense makes her restless. There’s something watching, she can feel it. Hades, being the big baby he is, doesn’t notice, and remains curled up resting soundly.

Something is watching, indeed. The Stufful can’t help but think how cozy snuggling up with the fire-type and trainer looked. In a daring move, the bear inches closer. The soft shuffle of the paw in the grass makes Eva stir yet again. A single eye opens, surprised to see the wild pokemon so close.

The Stufful decides to take a chance and curl up. Eva and Hades let the bear cuddle with them for a nice afternoon nap. Eventually, the Stufful rises and trots back off into the woods as if nothing happened. Typical.

With a big stretch, both the Doctor and the Arcanine yawn, pushing themselves up from their nap into standing positions. With a hardy pat on the canine’s back, they both continue their hike through the Safari Zone.

As the sun burns bright above them, the heat swells. Sweat beads and drips down Eva’s brow. Unlike the Fire-type, the heat wasn’t the most comfortable for her. Luckily, the sound of a distant spring bubbling through the trees brought a smile.

With a sigh of relief, Eva kneels beside the clear creek, reaching forward to scoop a handful of water t splash over her face and neck. The Arcanine waits patiently, turning its attention to the small, pink Luvdisc in the creek.

One floats towards Eva, fluttering its tail playfully. In a friendly fashion, it shoots a light WATER GUN at Eva.

“Hey!” she laugh, wiping water from her brow. The Luvdisc doesn’t rejoin its school and instead stares blankly at the Doctor. With a shrug, Eva tosses a Safari Ball at the pokemon. Is that wat it wanted?

With the Luvdisc secured and tucked away, the two move on with their hike. The rest of their walk is rather uneventful. Eva takes the time to stop every now and then observe some of the pokemon enjoying the early spring day.

A particular group of diving Spearow catch her attention. They seemed to be attacking something. With a wave of her hand, the Arcanine and trainer move towards the flock.

Upon closer inspection, they seem to be dive bombing a small bush. Beneath the dark leaves, a trembling Happiny peaks out to glance around for an escape route. She’s quickly forced back into the bush as a Spearow rushes her with a WING ATTACK.

“Oh shit!” Without much thought, Eva rushes to the Hapiny’s aid with Hades hot on her heels.

A Spearow dives for her, but a flaming sphere knocks it back with a painful squawk. With the Arcanine’s protection, she’s able to scoop up the Happiny and hades rushes them out of the field with EXTREME SPEED.

The baby whimpers in her arms. There are a few scrapes and bruises swelling across her fine skin. She nuzzles protectively into Eva’s chest, “Don’t worry, I’ll fix you up,” Eva promises, extracting a Safari Ball and dropping it on the Happiny in her arms.

Eva reaches behind to tuck the Happiny’s pokeball into the side pocket of her back pack. Another great addition to the Medical Corps!

Only a few steps later, a small mew chimes through the area. At first, it’s difficult to find the source. Eva is practiced enough to know that the call was light, weak, distressed even.

“Help me out here, Hades,” she waves the canine into work. The Arcanine pressed his nose to the ground, sniffing vigorously to follow the trail towards the source. The iron scent is unmistakable, whatever it is calling out is hurt.

A deep ruff calls Eva over to a small bush. Part the branches, Eva find a small, rather sad looking Eevee huddled into a ball, shaking. One hind limb sticks out in a strange way, coated in a dark layer of dried blood, “Oh no! You poor thing!” Eva scoops up the weak kit into her arms, careful not to disturb the broken leg. She’s quick to extract a Potion from her pack to spray across the wound. It won’t fix it, but it will help her feel more comfortable until they can get back to the clinic, “Don’t worry, I got you,” she coos softly before dropping a Safari Ball onto the thankful Eevee.

Once Eevee is carefully tucked away, Eva stands, glancing over towards the Arcanine, “Alright, let’s get her back there,” with an injured pokemon on board, she make it a priority to start making their way back towards the Safari Zone entrance.

It’s a long but brisk hike back. Just before reaching the exit, a small Swirlix bounces out to block their bath. The burning rays of the setting sun light up the darkening sky. The pokemon looks desperate, looking up at the trainer and pokemon with desperate eyes. Hopping forward, it nuzzles its soft body against the Eva’s boot.

How curious. Had this pokemon been waiting at the exit, hoping to go home with someone? Eva had never really found Swirlix appealing but reaching down to run her fingers through the pokemon’s airy fur had her smiling. Being the sucker she is, she offers the pokemon a berry which it gobbles up, “Alright, want to come home with us?” she asks the small hound. It yips in delight, bouncing off the ground in excitement. Eva smiles, drawing out her last Safari Ball to capture the Swirlix.
