she should have declined, should have turned him down when he said that he wanted to go out with her, somewhere. should have insisted that she had work, should have insisted to her coworkers that he wasn't her boyfriend for the nth time, for goodness sake. turning him away was needlessly difficult, and she finds the hue of red meeting her cheeks much more easily, even when he was sitting far enough from her in the smaller room. uneasy as she is, it doesn't change how he's sitting right there, casually scrolling through the song list with his ever-changing smile. it's always.. unsettling. [break][break]

fiora narrows her eyes averting them from him in favour of the plush couch. "i-i.. don't know what you're talking about." she blesses the dimmed lights in the room, if only so he couldn't see the red haze upon her cheeks "you.. know how i feel about singing in front of others" her shoulders raise ".. it's embarrassing."

”And that’s precisely why I only invited you and no others~.” The words came out idly and casually as he resumed glancing through the lists of songs ticking up and down upon the screen before them, all while leaning further into his seat out of comfort. ”Again, it’s a secret we both know about. You’ve already sang with me a number of times.”[break][break]

He hummed, his lips tugging into a slightly broader smile.[break][break]

”You have a beautiful voice, as well, anyways~. It’d be a shame not to use it.”

although they were in a relationship now, and the start of any sort of relationship came from their shared taste for music, she's still hesitant. after all, it's embarrassing, even if they had sang together, in the past. the red stretches to her cheeks all the same, as does it dip her ears in a shade of crimson. [break][break]

"i assume that you're going to insist either way?" her eyes narrow, and she starts to lean over to take a gander at thesong list with a soft sigh escaping her lips. "... have you at least found something we could sing?" she intends for it to be together. although he's heard her sing solo, it was more.. comforting to sing with him. [break][break]

she'd sooner turn in her grave than admit that, though.

At the sight of the warmth gradually spreading across her cheeks, he breathed a low, softened chuckle, all while curling a finger out and reaching over to poke her cheek gently. ”You’re doing it again, Officer~,” he hummed, leaning back before bringing his gaze towards the screen yet again. He pressed his fingers against the buttons, perusing the lists once more. ”And yes— of course I’ll insist~. As I’ve said, you’ve a beautiful voice, and it’d be a shame not to use it”[break][break]

With those words, he gave another hum as a certain title crossed his eye, and after a couple of clicks of the remote, he nodded towards the screen with a smirk, side eying her.[break][break]

”I’m sure you know this one, though? I’d be surprised if you didn’t~.”

she shuts one eye, and furrows her brows at his comment. "i know.." and she hates that she knows. she hates that he knows that she knows. moving on, she hopes, she glances to the song list and notes the particular one he picked. one that.. yes, she was actually quite familiar with. it concerns her when she knows how much they actually have in common. [break][break]

"ah.. yeah, i know this one." she blinks a few times, trying to recover from the slight scarlet. then she reaches across to the table, taking one microphone and handing him the other. "it still surprises me a bit, when you pull up a song that we both know."

Oh, her reactions were always nothing short of amusing.[break][break]

It was a thought that was perfectly and clearly conveyed through the smile that he wore as he reached over, pursing his lips teasingly and with no shortage of content amusement as he took the device from her hand. ”You say that as if we hadn’t been raised in somewhat similar upbringings,” he responded with a musing hum, leaning further back within his seat. With a cross of his legs and an outstretch of an arm across the back cushions behind him, he offered himself the leisure of a lounge while lazily tilting his head against his shoulder to gaze towards her. ”Be as reluctant as you want— you’ll have to accept we have a lot of things in common, eventually~.”[break][break]

He hummed with a faintly broadening smile before looking towards the screen again.[break][break]

”...That said, you should let me when your father calls again. It’s been a while since I’ve talked to him~.”

'somewhat familiar' is right, down to the relatively negative outlook on childhoods - and she won't admit that they have more similarities than they do differences, it baffles her knowing that their main one is the paths they'd taken. granted, would they have still ended up like this if they had taken such drastically different actions? who knows. [break][break]

when her father's brought up, she smiles. really, she's always thought fondly of her dad - even and especially when he isn't of her blood. "yeah.. dad liked talking to you last time. it's a little concerning how well you two get along. but less talking," she clicks her tongue, watching as the dots approaching the lyrics began to fill after the music starts to play.[break][break]

”Fine, fine~...” he murmured, pressing his tongue against the inside of his mouth with a chuckle and a smirk, gently tapping the foot crossed atop the other within the air in tandem to the rhythms of the song. His eyes fixated upon the lyrics as they appeared upon the scream preemptively, and then towards the number as it began counting down towards lower numbers accordingly.[break][break]

He hummed, idly tilting his own microphone towards his lips in preparation.[break][break]

”...I still demand to talk to him soon, though~.”

one thing's for sure, though; he has a nice voice. so much so that she can't deny it - and she still beats herself over the head for feeling at ease and at peace in his presence (though she's getting better about it, despite her initial bias setting in and her continuous attempts to push them aside, especially after a certain incident). she's prickly, but she finds herself glancing his direction in pensive thought, and ultimately brushing them off.
