frankly, the woman doesn't mind a hike now and then. in fact, she quite enjoys being active, so she was surprised when she heard that she was being taken out on a hike. and she accepted a lot more easily. maybe she's starting to get used to these sudden invitations from someone she shouldn't be seeing. whereas he might be having a bit of trouble, she seemed to be taking the hike in stride. after taking her hair out of its braid, she opted to keep the band between her teeth as she bunched up her hair, walking side by side. [break][break]

".. you okay, there?" she asks between her teeth, quirking her brow.

”Oh, I’ve never been better in my life, Officer~.”[break][break]

Lying through his teeth beneath the guise of a strengthened bravado, of course, but the coyness within his tone always did help to solidify some faux aspect of confidence. In light of being so graciously called out, though, he inhaled deeply through his nose before parting the breath through his lips, eying her with what seemed to be a sudden, prompted second wind.[break][break]

”Trail just ended up being a tad bit steeper than I’d thought it to be~,” he went on with a softer hum, eying her from the corner of his eye as they walked along. ”It’s good exercise though~.”

"i was about to say" she takes the tie from her teeth, rolling it to her fingers as she tugs it and pulls her hair through the tie a few times "if you weren't, i could have called out chengqing to help~" she knows that it would probably put a damper to his pride, and there's a part of her that does this on purpose. a form of revenge for all the time he's been so shameless to her. [break][break]

with his second wind coming to pass, she presses on and has little trouble picking up in the walk alongside him. "yeah~.. i'm a little surprised, though" she smiles, head tilting back a bit to let the light breeze hit her face as it starts to pick up "i didn't think you'd invite me out to a hike." a deep inhale, then a sigh of relief "... it's honestly really nice~."

He gave a huff of a breath that sounded (oddly) like both a chuckle and a scoff at the same time, pressing a hand against a rock in passing as they strode by it as a means of leverage. ”Mmn~. Long walks aside, I’d heard that the view was one to die for,” he hummed with an ongoing smile, lifting his head faintly more in order to scan the trails and scenery further ahead of him. Humming in thought, he tapped his fingers against the selfsame boulder by his side before continuing on, instead turning his gaze towards her again.[break][break]

”...In fact, I believe that view is only a few minutes away~. I think I can see the top of the ridge.”

"is it?" she hums, keeping her gaze forwards. not that she minds; a hike up a hill wasn't anything too difficult, considering what she'd usually have to go through for training in the event she has to do some extra work on the field. still, she glances over to him, a smile reaching her eyes before reaching over, slightly, to gently tap the back of her hand against his. "you sure you don't need any help from chengqing?~"

He shot her a quick glare, however amused he may have actually been.[break][break]

”I can assure you, Officer,” he hummed with a faint bite to his words (one that had been some parts annoyed, but ultimately still coyly amused as ever), ”that I, in fact, will not be needing Chengqing’s help~.” His gaze remained upon her for several moments more as if challenging, though only strayed at the touch of her hand against his.[break][break]

Despite the outward tension, he breathed a sigh of faux exasperation as he shifted his hand back to fully envelop hers, slipping his fingers between the spaces of hers all the while.[break][break]

”Yours is the only support I’d need to persevere anyways, no~?” he added, sparing her a glance from the corner of his eye as they walked along. ”And…other cliche lines like that.”

shoot her a glare; that won't change how she's feeling amused. a rare time where she snickers at his expense, then for his sake (and later on, for hers) she backs off and presses on down the path. though they've only dated for a few weeks by this point (long enough for her feelings to solidify, and long enough for her doubts to have started peering out from their festering state), and though her heart has been uneasy dating a man she was once tasked to hold accountable with the law, she finds her gaze lowering to their hands, and her fingers gently twine in return, and a warm smile comes to her lips and suddenly everything feels a bit more peaceful. [break][break]

ironic, considering it's him. [break][break]

she can't contain the smile on her face - and she knows he can see it. it's just funny how these things work, and it's a little sad how things progressed for them to get to this point - as they trek down the path. his hold is warm, fingers caressing and cradling hers. it's hard to not smile. at the hand hold, and his little cliche line. hell, she giggles in response. "you're doing great~" she chuckles in response, absentmindedly rubbing the side of his hand with her thumb. "there was an attempt to be cliche and romantic~" she'd be fine if they could keep walking like this, though they come to a clearing soon, and she doesn't need to reach the summit to already know that it's going to be a beautiful sight.

So this was what it was like to be on the other side of it.[break][break]

The glare remained, but not too long after they arrived along the top of the pathways, it softened slightly despite lingering; instead inheriting a soft touch of amusement and coyness, alike, as he briefly overlooked the sights strewn out before them.[break][break]

”Mhm~. Always trying my best, but that aside~...”[break][break]

He hummed lowly, eying the horizon for a while longer before tossing the capsule of a familiar ghost type in front of them. As she gave her normal (jarring) sound indicative of her specimen, the trainer, himself, took his phone out and handed it off to her before resting his chin upon the woman’s shoulder. His arms wrapped around her waist as he side eyed up at her, giving another, content hum and grin.[break][break]

”...What say we take a picture or two~? The view’s nice enough for it~.”

you know, it's nice being on the other end of this kind of teasing. it's a pleasant change in pace, especially when he's the one who's always been so amused seeing her reactions. some balance is needed to be struck. though, the amusement is cut short when she feels herself getting pulled around, the back of her neck resting against a man's shoulder as an arm reaches around to hold her by the waist. [break][break]

"wha--" she starts with, twirled around. the suddenness brings a pinkish tinge to her cheeks, glancing to him. god, he looks so damn proud. "i--" cut off by the sound of the camera going off on the camera, she pauses, then opts to calm down with her hand holding onto his arm. "god, don't surprise me so suddenly.." man was like a ghost.
