The gentle sound of thuds emerging from sand quietly filled the air of Route 124’s sun-bathed beach. Elinor’s eyes couldn’t help but gaze out onto the waste ocean that spread before her. It was undisturbed at this moment safe for the few boats which left in the early mornings. Sometimes the thought of jumping into it and just swimming as far as she could intruded upon her. But since she was clad not in a swim suit, but a rather stylish black and grey training attire, she knew she wouldn’t last too long.

Behind her a pair of Pokémon followed along, one gently trudging the other just floating really. While clearly not tested by pace of jogging that their trainer had set, they followed along in sympathy. One of them, a pink and lime-green Kommo-o was clearly trying make it seem like more of an effort than what it really was. But if one looked for the small details of its movements one could see that it was all play, instead it seemed focused on watching the environment inland, maybe even making sure nothing or nobody would sneak up on them. The other, a Drifblim seemed not particularly focused on anything but the trainer, if focused at all. It’s eyes glazed and unfocused, it seemed more asleep than awake.

“Can you two keep up?” Elinor mused, her breathe heavy as her pace was kept steady. The Kommo-o tried to sound tired but happy as it replied with a weird mix of its species name and animal growling. The Drifblim nodded, saying nothing at all. Either not aware or indifferent to the fact its trainer didn’t have eyes in her back.

The morning was nice and warm, the breezes of spring slowly returning after winter.

Taking a deep breath in and exhaling a satisfied smile forms. Hands resting on her bicycle’s handle’s Gabby briefly adjusts her helmet before getting onto the bike.

It was a good time for cycling since she didn’t need to worry about foot-traffic very much. Pedaling at a moderate speed, it didn’t take long for Gabby to take notice of Elinor Anderson and the pokemon jogging besides her.

Normally it wouldn’t be a problem to pass her, but this time a poor condition walk-way caused the bike to go out of control, and with the speed it would be impossible to stop in time.

“Watch out!” Gabby shouted hoping that the woman could react in time so they could avoid a collision.

While jogging she felt almost alone in the world save for her companions. It was a nice bit of isolation, which unfortunately was taken away from her as the sound of sound of ‘watch out’ rang loudly from behind. While she hadn’t been running on the bicycle lane to begin with, as her jog continued, she had found herself preferring the more stable footing of it.

She quickly glanced backward at the sound of the oncoming bicyclist, just to see which way she ought to jump. Though in doing so, she gave herself only the barest amount of time to jump away. But jump she did, trying and succeeding in getting away. Luckily while, neither Pokémon had been in the way they jumped further out of the way as well.

Panting she halted her movements after the jump and looked towards the cyclist to see if they had continued or stopped as well, either by falling from trying to avoid the collision or to see if she was alright. “Phew, that was close!” She panted heavily as she mumbled the words, sweat slowly dripping down as she stood there.

Gabby curses under her breath all while she tries to decelerate. Luckily the warning she provided seemed to be enough as the other woman had managed to jump out of the way. She comes to a stop shortly after a few feet away from Elinor and her pokemon.

After a sigh of relief, she heads back towards them this time on foot. “I am so sorry!!” Gabby apologies soon as she reaches them, equally sweaty as Elinor. Her head turned to look at each one of them to see if any of them received an injury.

There wasn’t any visible to the eye.

“Any of you guys hurt?” She asks just to make sure.

Elinor panted, but slowly caught her breath just in time for the eager Bicyclist to get back to them. The woman apologized as soon as she reached them, which pleased Elinor. She was glad to see it hadn’t been on purpose. With a wavey hand gesture, she said. “Oh, don’t worry about it. Accidents can happen.”

The girl then asked if anyone was hurt. Elinor shook her head. “I am not.” She looked towards her two Pokémon. The Kommo-o shook its head and made some sounds that meant no. Elinor would have been surprised if it had. The Drifblim just turned from side to side slowly floating in the air, intent on ‘saying’ no but too lazy to make any actual noise.

“How about you?” Elinor asked. While it was unlikely, it wasn’t impossible that a hard stop could have caused some means of damage.

Gabby was glad that Elinor was understanding. And relieved when everyone seemed to be uninjured, she wouldn’t know what to do if she caused anyone to get hurt. “I’m fine” she confirms with a nod and smile.

Breathing to calm down, her focus returns back to the group. Seeing the way Elinor was dressed and how early they were up, Gabby couldn’t help but be curious.

“Nothing in particular,” Elinor responded. “But I have to keep myself, and those guys in shape, or they’ll never be able to take the League challenge,” Elinor spoke in jest, a small joking smile on her lips. She quickly took a peek towards her two Pokémon, neither of them seemed to be offended by the joke.

“And how about you, your bicycling awfully early?” She took stock of the woman in front of her, trying to see if there was some hint of where she was going or what she could be doing this early in the morning, other than training of course. “Oh, where are my manners. I haven’t introduced myself. The name is Elinor Anderson.” She gave a small nod, though she didn’t expect the girl to do the same, it was merely a formal courtesy.

And while their trainer began to chit-chat with this stranger. They in turn began to keep watch for their surroundings. You never knew when something might pop up.

The league challenge? How cool!" She wanted to ask her more about it but decided against it. Answering Elinor's question instead. "Oh I just like biking early, less people,less incidents." She throws in the joke with a smile.

Gabrielle blinks, realizing that she never introduced herself either. "Gabrielle Black, pleasure meeting you Elinor. "

She does notice pokemon passing by but decided to leave them be.

The girl joked innocently. Elinor gave a small chuckle in response. She didn’t mind the joke, there’d come harm to her or her Pokémon, so no reason to take offense.

“And likewise, it is a pleasure to meet you as well.” She gave a small polite nod as one does. It was then that her attention turned to one Pokémon running what she thought was past them, but alas it was instead straight for her Drifblim. The Rolycoly seemed angry, making weird noises and what she assumed were gestures. She could think of no reason for why it would be so angry.

“Hey, leave him alone.” She sternly said turning her attention to the wild Rolycoly. It turned to her, then started on another tirade. Though clearly, it wasn’t keen on attacking her while the two other Pokémon were there.

“Excuse me.” She turned to Gabrielle for a second before fetching an available Pokéball from her pocket. She threw it at the angry rock Pokémon, hitting it and sucking it inside. Since she didn’t want to start an actual battle, she figured the threat of capture would be a great deterrent from continuing the hostility, unless it decided to stay inside the ball. Which she wouldn’t mind if it did.

She then turned her attention back to Gabrielle. “So, are you from around here or just passing by?”

Her smile brightens, happy that the first person she met this morning was so easy-going and kind. Her attention shifted to the wild pokemon that had passed by, the rolycoly appeared to be a rather fierce pokemon. Picking a fight with Elinor’s pokemon who was minding their own businesses. She briefly looks concerned almost wanting to intervene but trusts that Elinor is capable to do it herself.

Oh, of course!” She nods encouragingly observing the two engage in a rather swift battle, Elinor trying to resolve it by quickly capturing it.

Just passing by! I’m originally from Canalave, but our family moved to Hoenn for my dad’s work!” The answer was more informative than it needed to, but Gabrielle doesn’t see the problem in sharing the detail.

“Are you from Hoenn?” She returns the question, also curious.

Elinor returned to the girl, now owning a Rolycoly. It was then that their conversation turned to their origins. The girl started by stating hers. Elinor nodded as she listened to the girl going into details that weren’t necessary but were still nice additions to the conversation. “Oh Canalave City. I’ve been there once. It’s a beautiful place if you like Port cities, and I’ve heard good things about their library as well, though I have to admit. I haven’t visited the Library.” Elinor stated, faintly remembering the last time she was there, which had been quite a while ago.

“Yeah, I am from Hoenn. Grew up in Rustboro, but my parents liked to move around a fair amount.” She figured that there was no reason to tell the girl that the reason they moved about was that her parents owned a fair amount of properties.

And it was around here that their conversation was rudely interrupted by a Sharpedo who thought it wise to jump out of the water and try to attack them. Why it thought that prey this far in on the beach was a good target, was only clear once the Kommo-o jumped in front of the two girls, and swiftly protected them with a Thunder-punch delivered right on the snout of the Sharpedo. It simply fell to the ground tired not only from the small skirmish but clearly from not eating well if at all.

“Oh poor thing,” Elinor said, pity evident in her voice. She retrieved a Pokéball and threw it at the Sharpedo. And as she awaited its capture, she turned to the girl and asked. “So, you said you moved here due to your father’s work. What does he work with?”
