she thinks of the people saved, of the people spared. and what haunts her the most is the one lost, the one she couldn't save.

"that's," she stops, breathes, and stares down at the table. "that's different."

it's not. not really, anyway, but she holds herself hostage over the past as if it'll change anything. her mouth is bitter now, full of regret and anger.

"i saved a lot of people, sure, but... i couldn't save everyone." and maybe she never will.
