Wrenching open the half-rusted port door with a horrendous screech, Beau stumbles into the hallway, panting. Behind him, Torben the Pangoro unleashes a final Night Slash at the Dhelmise pursuing the pair, causing it to fall back with a wail. Torben thunders dutifully through the door, and Beau pushes at it with his entire body weight, slamming it shut with a resounding clang.

Leaning back against the door, Beau pauses to catch his breath, giving an exasperated look at Torben. "Brah, whose idea was it to come here?" The Pangoro, unimpressed, regards Beau with a level stare until the man looks away, sniffing. "Okay, yeah, but I heard there were some kids causing a ruckus where they shouldn't be. I wasn't planning on ghosts popping out of the freakin' walls!"

He pushes himself off the door, dusting off his shoulders, and punches Torben's shoulder amiably as he walks past the bear into the hallway proper. "Come on, brah, we gotta make sure that nobody's getting themselves in any trouble down here, 'kay?" he calls, poking his head into one of the half-dozen rooms dotting the length of the hallway.

"Shit," Klaus hisses through clenched teeth, the banging and shuffling from outside the room he works in growing louder and louder. Someone was here, doing Arceus knows what, while he was trying to get this damn signal to work. Damn degraded power relays.

It wasn't his day, apparently, as his Dhelmise appeared next to his hip, a soft wail of pain sounding from the pokemon. Looking over sharply, a torrent of low swearing spills from Klaus's lips and he recalls the ghost. He wasn't getting rid of the intruder this way, it seemed. Instead, he releases his Litwick and hastily grabs a nearby rag to scrub his hands clean before picking up the little living candle.

Clearing his throat, he calls out a warbling, "Is someone there?" as he backtracks through one of the doors and steps into the main hallway.

Beau's investigation of the side room results in a Lampent coming alight, filling the small chamber with a flickering purple glow. Startled, Beau jumps back, but Torben is there to make up for the misstep with another ferocious slash, sending the Ghost-type spinning away through a wall with a wail.

"Thanks, brah," Beau mutters, clapping Torben good-naturedly on the back. The Pangoro responds with a dismissive grunt as the pair wander back into the main hallway.

Where they are greeted by Klaus equally wandering into the main hallway.

"AAAAAH!" Beau yells in a totally masculine and not-at-all frightened cadence, jumping back defensively and lifting his arms in a threatening series of karate poses he saw in a movie once. "Oh, jeez, you're not a ghost," he observes, the tension easing out of his frame as he approaches the other man more calmly.

"Shit fuck," Klaus swears violently in shock to Beau's scream, the man jumping back and clutching his Litwick tightly to his chest. Eyes wide and heart now racing, he exhales an audible sigh when Beau speaks again, his cheeks puffing out with the action.

"Sure not," he manages cautiously, as if Beau were made of glass which could explode at any moment. "I'm Klaus." Tipping his head back towards the hallway behind him, Klaus muses aloud, "Don't usually run into anyone down here." His brow momentarily furrows as shuffling sounds behind himself, and Klaus turns to see a Poliwhirl scuttling about just on the edge of the darkness.

"Would you mind," he asks his Litwick quietly, his chin jutting in the direction of the Poliwhirl. With a soft coo in reply, Lustig's flame burns brighter, and Will-'o-Wisps begin to hang in the air, the ember-like flames settling onto the pokemon in the distance. "Night Shade," he directs softly, the attack briefly blotting out the Poliwhirl from view.

A pokeball follows as the sound of the Poliwhirl staggering into the wall is heard, and Klaus looks once more over the wall of muscle standing opposite him. "You lost," he hazards with a little furrow of his brow. Maybe he could get back to his work sooner than he hoped if so.

Whoa. This kid is -cool-. He's, like, so smart he doesn't even need to talk. Beau wonders what it's like to be able to get your point across with such brevity. At Klaus' expectant look, he shakes himself out of his reverie and laughs, canting his head to one side. "Oh, sorry little brah, was that a question?"

He grins broadly at Klaus, shaking his head as the door behind him bursts open, revealing the numerous flailing tentacles of a Tentacruel reaching out and curling upon one another in vigorously searching motions. Torben offers a low grunt that could probably pass for profanity were it intelligible, shoving at the door in an attempt to wrest it shut atop the squirming tendrils.

"I'm not lost, but are you sure you're not? Kinda a weird place to hang out. By yourself." He looks the smaller man up and down, rubbing his chin thoughtfully and noticing not at all that his Pangoro is currently slamming his fist into the wall behind him, attempting to smash the ends of the tentacles that are currently trying to pry the door open with limited success.

Beau snaps his fingers, nodding decisively. "I got it, I'll help you with the whatever you were doing, then we can get out of here and we'll both leave happy. So, what are you up to?" he inquires.

Torben body-slams the door with an almighty BANG, severing a number of the Tentacruel's tentacles where they drop to the floor and prompting a horrid screech from the other side of the thick metal. The bear turns around and leans against the door, panting.

"Brah," Beau quips, glancing to one side and noticing his pokémon's fatigued state, "You look totally tuckered out. You should, like, do some laps or something, get some physical activity in, so you don't just fall asleep on me. What if a pokémon attacks?"

Torben responds by baring his teeth viciously, but Beau has already returned to Klaus, his gaze bright with fascination, and misses the murderous glare entirely.

"Little brah," Klaus repeats under his breath, his expression a touch incredulous as he tries not to laugh; he stills in shock when the door beside Beau suddenly bursts open, magenta-pink eyes impossibly wide at the resulting scuffle. "Um," he starts, one hand unwrapping from around his Litwick to point at the door, beyong which flailing tentacles; his attention is briefly drawn at the appearance of a Misdreavus, the Litwick in his hands flaring threateningly at the ghost. With a swift Curse that dazes the Misdreavus, Klaus tosses another pokeball.

Klaus is summarily silenced when Beau asserts he will help, his brow furrowing noticably as he tries to think his way out of this mess. Expression falling somewhat as he takes a good look at Beau, a subtle shake of his head follows as Klaus replies, "I - uh. It's really alright, I'm just...." He trails off again when Torben finally gets the nearby door slammed shut, the wiggling tentacles flailing about on the floor. "Uh... I'm," he pauses, coughing softly, his freed hand lifting to scratch at the back of his neck, "Right."

Shaking his head, Klaus coughs awkardly before he easily lies, "I was checking on the bouys and shit outside to make sure they were setup still so ships don't wander too close to the ruins. Came inside once I was done to do a little ghost hunting." He then motions to the Litwick by way of explanation as to his presence.

"What're you doing here?"

"Oh, you mean you're actually here LOOKING for ghosts?" Beau inquires, incredulous. Some of the tension leaves his shoulders as he witnesses the Litwick dispatch of the Misdreavus with little trouble, and he shrugs. "I got wind that there were incidents of vandalism happening inside, but now I'm wondering if it was ghosts. Or ghost -hunters-," he drawls, narrowing his eyes suspiciously at the younger man.

His attention is broken by an Octillery surging down the hallway, limbs flailing. "God, what is with the tentacles down here?" Beau sighs, gesturing at Torben. The Pangoro responds by surging toward the Octillery, landing a flurry of Bullet Punches that send it skidding slimily down the hallway and into the darkness once more.

"So, you vandalizing the place?" he inquires, turning his attention to Klaus once more and stepping forward, standing over him imposingly. "I'm not afraid to keep my eye on you."

"I train ghosts," Klaus confirms, his eyebrow slowly arching as Beau levels a suspicious look at him. Chewing at his lower lip beneath the scrutiny, he's mercifully spared for a time at the appearance of an Octillery. Klaus's own attention is drawn to just behind Beau, his brow knitting together in mild concern as he notes a Cofagrigus manifesting from the shadows, its many hands snaking their way towards the unsuspecting Beau.

Flushing abruptly at Beau's complain, Klaus clears his throat awkwardly and mutters a low, "Curse," at his Litwick; the Cofagrigus sways in pain, the Curse creating enough of a distraction that the pokeball which is lobbed its way is mostly unnoticed.

He then blinks once as Beau accuses him all of a sudden at vandalism, his nose wrinkling in offence. Setting down his Litwick, hands resting on his hips as he glares up at Beau. "Yeah?" He challenges, his weight shifting to cause one hip to jut outwards with the action. "You gunna turn out my pockets while you're at it? Make sure I'm being a good little boy down here?" Practically sneering, and certainly not compensating for potentially being caught at his somewhat-illegal rewiring of the station, Klaus demands, "Well?"

Klaus should have let the damn Cofagrigus steal Beau's soul.

A flailing pink Alomomola floats up toward the returning Torben, offering a glowing Heal Pulse that has the Pangoro standing a little straighter and regarding the Water-type with a curious frown. Beau, his eyes not leaving Klaus' for a moment, tosses a pokéball without looking, capturing the fish in a spray of crimson light. Now was NOT THE TIME.

The only thing Beau prides himself on more than his bench press record is his critical thinking ability. He's dealt with troublemakers before - running folks out of his aunt's shop when they tried to nick one of her trinkets, sure, and a long few years bouncing too-rowdy or too-arrogant drunkards from that dive bar he worked at in Slateport.

Said critical thinking ability is in full swing, and while to most onlookers it would seem to be the procedural equivalent of a candle instead of the proverbial light bulb, Beau knows differently. Beau can see the connections where others could only wonder in awe. Sure, this kid is suspicious, but this seals the deal. When you're in trouble, you talk about what you did to get yourself in trouble to throw off suspicion. It's reverse psychology.

Fortunately for Beau, one of the papers he wrote for that elective Psych 101 course his final year of college dealt with the groundbreaking and - in his opinion - highly understudied topic of REVERSE-reverse psychology. He has this kid right where he wants him, and no more crime's gonna get done today!

Internally, his mind was a blur of motion. Externally, his eyes go glassy for a long few seconds as he processes all of this information before he shakes his head as though to clear it, meeting Klaus' defiance with a steely glare of his own. "Y'know what, yeah, I am!"

With no further warning than that, his hands occupy themselves with squeezing into Klaus' comparatively much smaller pockets, feeling around for evidence of the wrongdoing that the younger man has written all over his features.

Klaus's expression falters minutely as he observes Beau's distant expression, his brow furrowing as some of the hostility bleeds out of him. Beginning to suspect the man wasn't all there, Klaus's own mind grinds to an abrupt halt as he finds Beau's hands roughly searching his pockets.

"What," he chokes out, his question clipped at the edges before he goes wholly silent. Face now scarlet, eyes impossibly wide, Klaus stares up at Beau as he's man-handled about; turning out his pockets reveals a handful of pokeballs and perpetual grease-stain discouloring one corner of a pocket's fabric. Barely daring to breath, something that sounds suspiciously like "I love you," escapes from Klaus's constricted throat, though the jumble of words and their breathless quality makes it difficult to tell for certain.

Seeming to regain at least a modicum of composure, Klaus roughly shoves Beau back from himself with little warning, the smaller man taking several steps back for good measure as he heaves in air into his lungs.

"What the fuck is wrong with you!?"

Klaus is distantly aware of a pokemon scurrying back behind him somewhere, though chooses to ignore it in favour of trying to subtly adjust the front of his pants.
