a pause... and then, an incredulous look.

it's easy, however, to best him. she does so by leaning into to press her lips into his before pulling away with a cheeky smile.

his cheeks burn hot, a tinge of scarlet that mixed with the natural pink of the alcohol. the result is obvious — he was flustered.

"uhm," he couldn't quite from the words he was looking for. each attempt ended in failure as he stuttered out... something.

"that was... sneaky of you."

"sneaky? me?" she could be, she supposes. he hadn't exactly been expecting her to pull a stunt like that...

her head tilts as she drinks in the fluster. and eventually, she flashes a bright smile.

"it healed you, though, did it not?" task: completed.

"yeah, i guess it did." he still pouts slightly against the surprise attack, but he places the fries down on the table and begins to work on his own box.

his was nothing special - a french dip, ah ju dip and generic salt & pepper coated fries. still, he was starving. the other box, illeana's, he pushes across the counter towards her.

"don't try dessert before dinner, though."

[attr="class","illeana i"]her smile turns warm when he pouts and abandons gatekeeping the fries to pick up his own box. he slides hers closer and after another fork full of fries, she opens her box.

extra cheesy mac n cheese? y u m.

"that's no fun," she murmurs before scooping up curly pasta coated with cheese onto her fork and ferrying it into her mouth. definitely yummy, wowie. "dessert is the best part of a meal. shouldn't it be first?"

not in this case, perhaps... they're both starving.

"not if we don't want to spoil the dinner," he says with one eye-brow raised, smiling with a hint of mischievousness. he hides it behind the bite of his sandwich, happy to not have any friend onions souring it up for him. one crunch and his soul would be obliterated.

"how long have you lived here, anyways?"

"fiiiine," comes slightly muffled by cheesy pasta. she chews and swallows then reaches for another bite. hungry hungry bitch. "after dinner, then."

a hum of thought follows. it's been... a long time, that's for sure.

"uh, i think almost three years?" sounds about right, anyway. another bite, another chew and swallow combo, and she's adding onto the sentence. "i never bothered moving after coming here from sinnoh. how about you?"

despite the pleasantness of their conversation, an unspoken truth hung over them. they both knew how tonight would end, everything else was just... small talk. in a way this was part of the game; the dancing around it without ever speaking it.

"hoenn? my whole life." born and raised, a true native. but he was just as lost as any foreigner. probably more so, now that he dwells on it. "never really went into the big cities, though. so not sure if that counts?"

he's walking around the island as he speaks, food left forgotten on his side of the kitchen. inside his heart beat to fast and so loud, part of him was afraid she would hear it.

then, finally, he's in front of her. each breathe felt painful. forced. pressured.

and it dawns on her a little too late. there's still a bit she doesn't know about him. his past, some of his present, his future. unknowns bother her to no end and mentally, she makes a note to play twenty questions later.

after all, he's a theory she wants to unravel and piece back together.

"huh," she murmurs after a moment. it's soft, curious. "no big cities? what, you're not a city boy?" yet he picked lilycove... curious and curiouser.

by the time he rounds the table, she's settling her fork down in the finished container of mac n cheese. her eyes dart up just as he stops. the proximity of their bodies isn't lost on her.

"greyson."

and then, she grins.

her grin oozes confidence and he nearly chuckles right then and there. but his heart hammers too loud, and too fast, as his anxiety begins to spike.

"i'm not very good at this," he says finally, cracking a half, nervous smile. then, hands reaching up to cup her face, his lips embrace hers.

his lips follow, pressing into hers. and it's gentle at first, tentative and unsure. at least, until her arms come up to circle around his neck...

she pulls him closer to deepen the kiss, to mold her body into his.

he's hesitant about this decision, even now as their lips embrace. but as their bodies compress and collide, his inhibitions free themselves.

after a few precious seconds he pulls back, then in a huff, lifts the woman up and onto the counter. their lips meet again, and with them, his tongue's heated prodding. her taste is better than the alcohol and, as he's slowly finding out, just as intoxicating.
