Calvin doesn't enjoy being this close to Oldale Town. Every step brings him treacherously close to the family farm, and it brings a sinking feeling within his gut. The only comfort is the stretch of the Petalburg Woods, along with Petalburg itself and the close proximity of Rustboro City— They keep him shrouded from the watchful eyes of his disapproving parents, even if he reasonably knows that there is little to none chance of them spotting him this far out. They were always the homebody type, after all. Besides, he's here on Route 104 for a reason, he's not just here frivolously... For the most part, at least.

[break][break]He's in search of a Water-type, as having a Pokemon able to transport him across the vast waters of Hoenn would surely be a boon in his duties as a Ranger— And this was the best route to find something capable of that without already owning a Pokemon able to traverse the ocean. Streusel flies at his side, and he idly gives the Flapple a pat on the head as he walks towards the stretch of sandy beach. That would be a good place to start.

Faye had been walking for what felt like ages. It was the heels, doy, but no way was she going to sacrifice them for the sake of comfort — she just wasn't that kind of girl. Not that there was a problem with the kind of girl who favoured flats! It just wasn't for her. Nova wasn't being much help either; she wasn't about to call her back to her pokéball, but her Espeon's high energy was getting hard to keep up with the longer they traveled. [break][break]

She wasn't looking for anything particular out on Route 104, still just exploring as she had been since she left home. Still, even though it wasn't like she was in a rush to use up all her pokéballs or anything, it would be nice to find a new friend for Nova and Juno soon. She hadn't caught anything yet since setting out, and despite the fact that she wasn't trying to be some bigshot it was a little disheartening.[break][break]

As she got closer to the beach she saw something flying and for a brief moment, she thought this might be her chance — but then she spotted the... well, she thinks it's a Flapple at least, but it's hard to tell at a distance. Anyways! She could see the trainer at it's side and deflated a little. Nova bumped against her leg encouragingly, making her pause in her steps for a moment to crouch down to give her a good pat. Good Nova, best friend. [break][break]

But... well, she might have more luck if she had someone to help her. Giving Nova a quick nod in the direction of the Flapple and it's trainer she picked up her pace. Hey! Wait up," she called, voice sing-song in a typically cutesy way. She couldn't move that fast in her heels, but at least Nova could catch up to them and slow the pair down a little if her calling didn't grab their attention. [break][break]

Streusel notices Faye just a second before she calls out to them, flapping wildly enough to get Calvin's attention as she comes bounding over... Though, not very quickly, given the high heels she's wearing. His eyebrows furrow minutely. He's still not quite used to being flagged down by strangers after the years upon years he spent being isolated from the outside world, but it turns out that a lot of the people populating Hoenn are rather friendly. Or, at least, friendly enough to stop him for chitchat during his travels and duties. He shoves his hands in the pockets of his oversized jacket, turning to face the woman. "Hiya, miss," He calls in greeting, her Espeon stopping at his feet much before she has the chance to fully approach him.

[break][break]As she grows closer to him, he can't help but notice her... Er, well... Everything. She's pretty, with long legs and a tight-fit dress, and he can't help the blush that erupts across his cheeks, heating his skin. It's a side-effect of his naivety, but ever since he struck out on his own, he's noticed that there's also a lot of pretty girls around (and boys, though that one is more tightly guarded to him). How could he have been prepared when his parents had barely allowed him access to media? He internally curses his sheltered upbringing, not for the first time, but for varying different reasons.

[break][break]He averts his viridian gaze away from her, hopefully subtly. "Can I help you? Are you okay?" There is a bit of concern to his voice, mostly because while he isn't dressed in his full Ranger uniform, the wristband sits around his wrist over his jacket and his badge squarely on his chest— What if she was in need of help? He would be a no-good Ranger if he refused to assist her, in that case.

Faye huffed as she caught up with Nova, bending over to brace herself against her knees while she caught her breath. "Nova," she called, and without hesitating the Espeon returned dutifully to her side. She straightened herself back up and eyed the Flapple curiously; it wasn't her style, but there was a certain charm to it that she enjoyed. The same could be said for the trainer, if you were charmed by the sort of... sheltered naivety that he gives off — which Faye is. [break][break]

She catches his blush and like, she would so say something if she wasn't distracted by him immediately jumping to making sure she's okay. "Help? No, I-," her eyes finally catch the badge and it clicks into place. "Oh! You're a ranger, aren't you?" she asks. Without waiting for an answer she launches back into her own self-interrupted introduction. "I was just thinking we could walk together, it's lonely out here. Unless you're busy or already headed to meet someone!" she stumbles through the proposition in a typically excitable manner before finally remembering her, well, manners. "Faye Fairchild, by the way!" Her arm shoots out to offer her hand for shaking, maybe a little too enthusiastically.

He blinks minutely as she rambles on to him, proposing they walk the route together. It would be pretty hypocritical to get annoyed at it, though, considering he can act much the same way— In fact, he sort of finds it endearing, or at the very least, not much of an issue. He perks up when she asks him about being Ranger, nodding. "Yeah, I'm just a rookie Ranger though, He says earnestly, not shy about his inexperience. Everybody started somewhere, after all. "We can walk together. I'm headed towards Rustboro." He informs her, gesturing with his head towards the other end of the route.

[break][break]When she offers her hand, he is quick to shake it, firmly but careful not to drag on. That was something his parents taught him, even if he never actually met a ton of people... Oh well. "Calvin! Calvin Brenner. Uh, you can call me Cal, though, if y'prefer that." It's a hit or miss on whether or not people actually call him Cal or Calvin, but he gives her the option. "I'm lookin' for Water-type Pokemon, by the way. You out here lookin' for Pokemon too, or...?" He then asks, hoping to make some small talk.

[break][break]...That is, until he's dive-bombed by a pesky Emolga. He startles a bit, not expecting the sudden interruption. "Aw, man, okay, hold on," He says sheepishly, his face red once more at the embarrassment of getting startled by an Emolga of all things— At this rate, he's sure if he was a Pokemon, his ability would be Flame Body— then looks at Streusel. "Streus, c'mon! Dragon Rush!" Ever obedient, his Flapple aims a Dragon Rush at the electric-type, hitting the Emolga square in the body and knocking it down to the ground. Man, he feels kind of bad now. Just like with his Sylveon, he throws a Pokeball, hoping to catch the Emolga quick and heal it up when he's able to get to a Pokemon center.
