+ it's breeding season... as evident by the eggs she's struggling to carry. there's too many. an overflow of eggs means one thing: volunteering as a delivery worker for a day to both be a good person and also avoid a few things. and illeana reyes, despite having a busy schedule, finds herself in over her head and knee deep in more work than she had when the day started.

there's supposed to be another volunteer, right? god, she hopes so...

the telltale sound of footsteps approaching signals a sigh of relief heaved from her lungs. and when she turns, she's flashing a bright smile as if the weight of all these eggs has magically been lifted off her shoulders. in a way, it has but... well, recognition puts a damper on her mood.

"wha-- i -- what?" she splutters, the smile immediately falling. it settles into something halfway between annoyance and confusion, existing in a weird plane of ugh. and if she hadn't believed the gods or whatever were mocking her before, she's almost certain of it now. "what're you doing here?"

"you're going to drop them," he admonishes her, lightly.

[break][break] luciano is not one for community service. in fact, much of his time is already busy as it is, even though he is technically a visitor in a foreign country. even though technically he ought to be on vacation. but he wasn't as easygoing as @ciprina was about things, not with the way noemi raised him.

[break][break] but somehow, he had found it difficult to deny them.

[break][break] fingers brush as the sculptor catches an egg from fumbling out of the head researcher's grip, grasping it before it has the misfortune to splattering onto the ground. luciano has already had his breakfast - he's an early riser, you see. plus, something tells him a plate of eggs scrambled upon the ground would not be quite appetizing.

[break][break] he hands it over to lia; the dull-witted drampa holds it gingerly in her maw before dropping it around the satchel that is hanging from her neck.

[break][break] "i was called for assistance," he says evasively. "you know how these things work, illeana."

+ color paints her face a soft pink. and it bleeds a little harder into her cheeks, spreading slowly until it reaches the tips of her ears. somehow, it manages to deepen when his fingers brush against hers. the eggs are plucked from her grip and his drampa offers the eggs a better location, a safer place to hide from possible scrambling.

"no, i--," she stops herself, inhales sharply, and releases a huff of air. the faintest traces of pink mist escape from her lips and dissipate in the spring air. despite the rising urge to pinch the bridge of her nose, her hands are otherwise occupied with the rest of the eggs. "i meant here, in hoenn."

he was in sinnoh. and even when she returned home after the war, he was still in hearthome living his life. somehow, she still hadn't called.

community service ropes them back together. she, in the face of it all, tries to muster up enough wit to smile. it's passable but nothing like what he used to witness with her lips. her body shifts a little closer to his drampa, reaching to place the eggs in the satchel if only to distract herself. and then, a soft question rises. "are you, um, just visiting?" curious, even after all these years. some things really never change.

it's been awhile since he's seen her blush. a shame, really.

[break][break] she huffs at him, in an annoyed way, and it is endearing enough to draw a smile out of the normally stoic fisk. that being said, he quickly hides it by pressing his lips together in thought. "i know what you meant."

[break][break] he just wanted to be difficult. avoid matters. though, he didn't need to tell her that, did he?

[break][break] he sighs, glancing at lia as she eagerly dips her head in an attempt to lick the other in affectionate. unlike luciano, lia is more than happy to greet her master's ex-lover. "lia." she pauses mid-way, pouts, and settles for merely nudging her cheek affectionately with a cold nose.

[break][break] "i'm looking for my muse," he says after a moment. "what about you? what's drawn you away?"

+ oh... she flushes, embarrassment and annoyance mixing together until the resulting concoction is a pretty shade of pink. it lingers, festers, grows. he's always managed to turn her into a mess, purposefully or otherwise. even here, even now... the end result is always the same.

lia the cute drampa moves to lick her and it brings about a genuine smile. bright, fuzzy at the corners. it fades slightly when he sighs the dragon's name, when the affection she offers fades as a result. lia's nose nudges into her cheek softly, leaving a small damp snail trail. and illeana, despite all of the awkwardness, giggles. she turns her head, presses a soft kiss to the drampa's nose, and then continues lowering eggs into the satchel.

curiosity rises at the explanation. and time erodes most things but it'll never eat away at illeana's curiosity. "your muse?" her head tilts. "have... have you found it yet?"

he shifts the spotlight onto her. it shines in her eyes and casts a large shadow. somehow, she expects to see herself lurking in the depths. her body tenses slightly at the thought. "oh, um, getting away from my parents." logical, sound reasoning. he's had the displeasure of encountering them once or twice... it's a wonder he stuck around a while longer after that. "and continuing my research in a new place is a great opportunity." her life's purpose, as he would remember it, has flourished since she's crawled out from beneath her father's shoe.

pink was such a lovely color on her. it was something that he had been fond of when they'd been together, in whatever capacity that they'd been together. perhaps it was one of the reasons that he'd set his sights on her to begin with, because of how sweet that color had looked on her. like sakura petals and chrysanthemums, the blush on her cheeks brought out the lovely vermillion roads in her eyes.

[break][break] she had been his muse once, even if she was no longer.

[break][break] "... no," he says after a moment, lips pressed together. he arches a brow as he looks at her. "why — are you interested, illie?"

[break][break] before she can answer, however, he lets out a soft laugh. "i jest." he clears his throat. "i'm still looking. though, not quite sure what i'm looking for." his eyes shift towards the eggs for a moment, gaze traveling to their unusual patterns. hmm, if only it would be so easy to find inspiration. to be born with it, without having to search.

[break][break] at her words, however, his gaze rises her to once more. a sea of endless blues.

+ is she interested? the proposed question gives way to silence. and for a moment, she thumbs through the past as if it's an idle catalogue to pass the time. once upon a time, she had been interested. hell, she had even sunk her teeth into it.

and that had been a different time, a different space, a different illeana. she couldn't be a muse now even if she tried.

her mouth parts to offer an answer. and it dies painlessly, life snuffed out in her throat by his chuckle. right, he's just kidding... somehow, the joke sticks with her for a little longer. it lingers and blinks owlishly back at her before finally dissipating. and almost too quietly, she offers a soft, "i'm sure you'll figure it out."

she knows, deep down, he will. he merely has to see it himself. thinking too hard is a curse, after all.

red and blue meet. the result should be purple but it's awkward, wrong. she glances away, down toward boots digging into dirt. "oh, um," she stammers and stumbles through words and thoughts left jumbled. somehow, they have melted down at the edges from the warmth of a spotlight. and pieces of her old self shine through softened borders, hands fidgeting in the wings. "not necessarily." there's some things she's found, sure, but... she's not satisfied. she never will be. greed and hunger both look the same: red eyed and pale haired. "i -- i feel like i'm still searching."

+ was it their downfall, or her own? believing in another more than she believes in herself is, in the end, nothing more than ingesting poison until it rots her from the inside out. and the casualty is him, the connection they shared, and little bits of herself she refuses to touch anymore.

she shrugs. whatever thoughts she had submerged herself into slowly ebb and flow back into the recesses of the mind. he draws her out with easy, simple sentiment. and she wants to exist in a realm of peace for a while longer with the simple notion that her skin doesn't creep with paranoia here.

they fall into step together. fluid motion shrugging free from the suffocating blanket of tension. awkwardness is left in the dirt to heave its last shaky breath. somehow, instead of looking back, she looks to him.

"it is," she murmurs agreement. after a moment, a fond smile curls its way into her cheeks. "i like it." despite the hardships, despite the pain... she's found herself favoring hoenn as of late. when it changed, she'll never know. "it needs more snow, though."
