He lets go the moment she asks him to, pulling his hand back as if he'd been burned. Fury boils his blood, Lugia's corrupt influence fueling its fires. I didn't mean to hurt her.

Yet the anger remains, his amber eyes narrowing.

"You should have," Gavin growls. "He deserves it."

She's a child. He reminds himself of that, sternly, even as he finds himself wishing she'd slit the bastard's throat. Killing him wouldn't bring Chu-e back, but if it at least avenged him...

Gavin takes a deep, shuddering breath.

"Of course he did. He is a coward." Gavin's hands are shaking. "Who — did you approach him first, Eris? Or...?"

Trembling fingers curl into a tight fist, his knuckles white with strain. There is no Sylveon with him to soothe his frayed nerves and calm his mind, only Lugia's corruption running through his veins and bolstering his fury.

Miasma seeps from him, though he makes no move to harm Eris. She isn't the threat.

"What the fuck is wrong with him?" He's well past trying not to swear around Rocket youth. "Who does he think he is, to kill Chu-e and then tell you it's justified?" She's a child! "And Reiner? What the hell has Reiner ever done?"

He gestures sharply to the Luxray, as if for emphasis.

"Matias is a monster, Eris."

Seeing her flinch away from him is the only thing that manages to break through Gavin's building rage. It's not enough to calm him, but it's enough for him to forcibly curb the miasma that had begun to roll across the floor like a malevolent fog.

"You're not in danger from me." Curt, a little rough due to his emotions, but sincere. "I'm angry with Matias. Not with you."

I'll gut the bastard. If only he could reach him.

His lip curls in disgust and contempt. "Of course. He's a spineless coward, but he'd never admit to being defeated by a child. Imagine that. 12-year-old decimates a member of Hoenn's precious Elite Four."

Maybe then the region will realize they're a joke.

He cants his head when she mentions getting stronger, then nods to himself.

"I'll help you. I've learned a thing or two about fighting around my weaknesses." He lifts up his hand to display the ugly scar bisecting the palm. "Next time, you'll be able to finish the job."
