So far, he's allowed the Dodrio to attack indiscriminately. As they set their eyes upon a Cherubi, however, a sharp whistle from Gavin snaps their attention away from prey.

He can see the fury in three pairs of eyes, but whether it's the miasma that curls around them or the firm tone, they don't disobey. His lip curls up at the corner into a pleased smirk. Such power. Gone were the days where he'd been forced to lock his Sandslash behind bulletproof glass to stop it from savaging him long enough to train it.

Grass rustles nearby as something else approaches.

This time, there's more push-back to his denial of their hunter's instinct. One of the heads shrieks at him while the second snaps at the neck of the third, venting frustrations. A sharp whistle cuts through the squabble, and their bickering dies down.

Hm. They fare better when I can redirect aggression. That was true of all shadow Pokémon. But when there is no target on which he wishes to unleash their fury, what then?

He clicks his tongue, a pattern that indicates buffing.

They understand. Fury becomes focus as they bulk up in preparation for a future fight, instead.

"Ah. There."

With cigarette in hand, he points toward a shy female Nidoran hiding in the grass. It would have been effective if not for Gavin's advantage of height, where he can see that she's flattened down the stalks with her weight.

Those peaceful grasses are soon trampled by the high horsepower of a furious shadow Pokémon.

Does this constitute as environmental damage? He sighs as he fetches the first of four safari balls from his belt. Nothing the Pokemon themselves couldn't accomplish, I suppose. Hopefully they don't say anything.

He plans to come back a third time, potentially.

Acrobatics give it enough maneuverability to dodge the first vicious jab of a beak, but Dodrio has two more chances.

They succeed on only the second.

"Drop it," Gavin commands, and the Dodrio does.

Still alive. Good. He taps it with a ball.

Unlike the others, the Azurill finds them first.

It bursts from a pond with the momentum of its Aqua Jet, trilling happily as it bounces on its tail to soften the landing. It seems ignorant of the danger posed by the three-headed bird, perhaps expecting to Charm them.

It is not so lucky.

Three quick strikes, one from each beak, and the Azurill is sucked into a pokeball.

Gavin checks his watch. Plenty of time left. Good.

As they smooth ruffled feathers with a trio of beaks, one of Dodrio's heads suddenly slumps forward, asleep.

Hypnosis? Gavin glances at the Ponyta, surprised. He hadn't been aware they could learn the move. Interesting.

Unfortunately for Ponyta, the NEUROTOXIC INDEPENDENCE of the Shadow Pokémon prevents the other two heads from becoming equally drowsy. A demonstration, however ironic, of their HIGH HORSEPOWER is enough to put down the fiery equine.

After tapping the unconscious Ponyta with his last remaining Safari ball, Gavin turns to leave.
