Remiel answers his question, but he doesn’t seem very keen on doing so. Memo tilts his head in confusion, vaguely recalling something about scientists being hesitant to share their discoveries or the glory that comes from them. But maybe that had just been in a movie or something?

“It’s just… Hoenn seems so new, compared to Galar. Everything there is old. Dated. Or it seems that way.” It makes him laugh, the thought, because he’s thinking directly of Wedgehurst and the ancient gable architecture on the Pokemon lab. He only saw it once, a long time ago. “It’s just weird to think that places like Hoenn have ancient history, too.”

Remiel deals swiftly with a Clauncher just as there’s a loud splashing noise from the outer curve of the Atoll. Hydra is picking a fight with something-- there’s a lash of her purple tail as she coils, serpent-like, in the water.

Just after, it looks as though a great wave has launched out of the sea-- but it’s a Mantine, attempting to escape the angry and overprotective mama dragon. A dragon pulse blasts against the ray’s pale underside, giving it more lift, and sending it flopping, upside down, onto the beach, scattering rocks and fragments of coral with the force of its landing. Memo rescues it in a Pokeball.

The irony.

“I was always more of an arts kid,” Memo adds, unsure of why. Maybe so Remi doesn’t feel like he’s trying to move in on his turf, or something? “But Spikemuth’s like that. Can’t throw a Pokeball without hitting a band in someone’s mom’s garage.” He meant to sound bored but it comes out with more venom than anticipated.

"Mm... we couldn't have the present without our past," Remiel remarks, placing away his latest capture as his green Noivern takes to the skies again. "And, if you know how to read it, it might even give you a hint of our future." It was a large part of the reason he'd become an archaeologist, frankly. He found it all just so utterly fascinating.

Speaking of GALAR, however, its most annoying avian creature suddenly appears in the sky before them. It foolishly begins to harass the dragon-bat above with squawks, seemingly angry that it'd had its CLAUNCHER meal taken away from it. Only when it strikes said dragon-bat with a PECK, however, does it spark a violent response.

Remiel watches from below as it is struck with a DRAGON RUSH. Then, swiftly, he produces another empty ball before casting it. It manages to strike the bird mid-fall before landing in the sand below.

"They say Spikemuth is where punk rock was born, so I can definitely imagine that." The ambassador says, as he walks over to retrieve the captured bird. "You're an artist, then? A musician or something else?"

“I suppose that’s true,” Memo allows with a tip of his head. He supposed it would be more obvious to someone like Remiel, who studied the past. “I guess they do say history repeats itself.” Though who, exactly, they were was a question Memo figured even Remiel couldn’t answer.

The shiny Floatzel leaped clear of the water, angry shiny Kingdra looming behind it. Hydra catches the golden weasel up in a sniper-like hydro pump, and though the attack itself isn’t very effective, the momentum of it knocks the Floatzel down, sending it rolling across the ground. Guillermo bounces a Pokeball off its head as it sits up, dizzy. A golden weasel to go with my golden fish..

“Yep. Musician. Just like everyone else in Spikemuth.” He shrugged. “I did production, mostly. Beats. Wrote songs. The boring stuff.”

History did, in fact, have a tendency to repeat itself. Though, in most cases, Remiel found people to take that more literally than it was intended. Regardless, the prince doesn't mention as much as they go along to inspect the lagoon more closely. Through some miracle, they find a TOGETIC swimming around its surface like a duck.

"That doesn't sound all that boring," He replies, pulling out an empty luxury ball and hoping it will reach the innocent creature before Guavafang does. "Perhaps you'd allow me to listen to it sometime. The embassy is always looking for worthwhile artists to help participate in the yearly Galarian festival."

He casts his ball, just as the bat swoops down to try and clutch the Togetic in its talons.

Memo grins, nose scrunching as he shrugs one shoulder. “It’s not usually what most people think of when they think of making music.”

There’s a large splash as a serpentine purple tail launches out of the water and wraps around an investigating Flygon. Hydra pulls the hapless thing beneath the water, before throwing it back on the beach, waterlogged and gasping. Memo winces, but zaps it in a Pokeball.

“If I make any new stuff, I’ll reach out.” He hadn’t done anything musically since he was seventeen-- aside from a few lyrics written on napkins. Then he pauses, and makes a confused face.

“We have a Galarian festival?”

He doesn’t so much know if the… culture, if you could call it that, of their home region is worth celebrating.

Remiel chuckles. "Yes, we do," He answers, watching as a SWANNA descends from above to rest her wings on the water's surface. Unfortunately, her rest is swiftly interrupted by a HURRICANE unleashed from his Noivern. He casts an empty luxury ball at the heap of feathers that hits the beach as a result. Its form disappears in a bright flash, like CRYSTABLOOM light erupting.

"We didn't before the embargo lifted, of course... but one of my first tasks as ambassador was to get one up and running. It raises morale; fosters cooperation between Hoennians and Galarian immigrants." He mentions, walking over to retrieve his captures. "You should really come by and enjoy it. We're having our second annual festival this autumn."

Remiel seems to find his confusion at the presence of a Galarian culture festival amusing, which, Memo supposed, was probably the best case scenario given that he sort of kind of insulted the man’s entire position. What was the Galarian Ambassador other than a cultural figurehead? That Memo had just pushed over and stomped into the ground?

Olí fires a hydro pump at a passing Pikipek, knocking the baby bird into the sand. Memo collects it in a Pokeball, frowning, as his Horsea does triumphant jumps in and out of the waves.

“Sure,” Memo allowed, not entirely sold on the prospect of a Galar party, “what kind of events are there?”

Maybe he was being too harsh. As long as there wasn’t a how to ostracize your gay youth booth, maybe it would be all right.

"Tea parties. Foot races. Games of cricket. Just about everything you'd expect, I'd say." Remiel answers, watching as a PRINPLUP stirs a WHIRLPOOL at the center of the lagoon. Before it can stir it up fast enough to drag them into its tide, however, his NOIVERN interrupts it with a HURRICANE.

Remiel watches as the penguin is unceremoniously blown out of the water before landing with a thud on the sandy shore. He saunters over to it, pulling an empty luxury ball out of his pack before crouching beside it. Once he's certain it is unconscious, he presses that ball against its forehead.

His smile turned a little bit pained at the mention of tea parties. Oh, god, not the tea.

(His mother, hailing from Paldea, had been a coffee person-- something he’d inherited, as had most of his siblings.)

“I told someone once that the scariest thing in Galar was the ghost of old tea,” he said, as Oli shot a Starly out of the sky and down to the beach. “I’m not sure he believed me.” Memo zapped the starling with a Pokeball.

He’d forgotten about cricket. In his defense, he hadn’t been home in a long time.

“Do you go back? Ever?”
