Word on the street was that an Oranguru had stolen a bunch of Pokéballs from Mossdeep's Pokémon Center and was challenging random bystanders to a battle. The sensational story had gained quite the traction on social media, with all the monkey-related memes that entailed.

Andrea was sitting on a bench, viewing the aforementioned memes on her Rotom Phone. "An Oranguru that can battle like a trainer... That sounds familiar, doesn't it, Chomper?" She asked her loyal Hydreigon, who scowled as memories of a certain island-dwelling cult resurfaced.

Having a hunch that she knew exactly who that Oranguru was, the trainer of dragons browsed through her contacts, looking for any Rangers she could recruit. She didn't wanna bother Laurence Anderson considering his busy schedule, so instead she went for her fellow Tiered Tea Room survivor, Elinor. She sent her a text explaining the situation, then waited for her to arrive at the designated meetup spot.

Having finally gone about making it official. Elinor could now call herself a Cadet Ranger. Having technically signed up about two years ago, but then going AWOL through a combination of a clerical error and forgetfulness only to return, be assigned missions and well it had been a messy pile of paper-work, a messy pile which the poor unpaid intern hadn’t wanted to deal with so she had been reinstated as a Cadet because she technically fit the rank. So now, with a fancy red badge and Armband, she made her way to the next mission. Pleased with her progress.

It hadn’t taken long before a request had popped in for her. One Andrea Vaneau requested aid with a monkey Problem. Why was that name familiar? It took Elinor far too long to figure it out. But at last, the realization dawned upon her, The Tiered Team Room.

Now remembering who it was, she had no reason to deny the request. So borrowing the help of one of the teleporting Pokémon available nearby, she arrived at Mossdeep City. Wobbly from the experience, and silently cursing her usage of the trick. She quickly went to the designated location looking around for what she expected to be a woman dressed in yet again a Dragon Pajamas.

And well. She did find the woman sitting at a bench watching something on her Rotom Phone. She approached her, though she did not try to hide her presence. “Hello there! I hear you have an Oranguru situation?” She sent the woman a small friendly smile as she would await her reaction.

Indeed, Andrea was once again wearing her signature dragon-like onesie in public. She waved at the approaching Elinor. "Hi there! Yeah, people say that an Oranguru has been challenging random trainers in Mossdeep. I figured that's the kind of stuff Rangers usually deal with."

After all, a human criminal could be arrested and put on trial, but a Pokémon needed to be handled more delicately, especially if it was a rare species. In addition to protecting civilians from harm, they needed to take the Pokémon's own safety and well-being into account.

Speaking of the devil, a manly cry was heard, prompting Andrea to run towards the source of the sound. Not too far from them, a Black Belt was kneeling on all fours, having just lost a battle against the notorious Oranguru. "Argh! I can't believe my Fighting-type Pokémon lost to a darn monkey!" The martial artist lamented.

The draconic cosplayer stopped in her tracks, examining this Oranguru. "It's... you." She muttered in bewilderment. There was no mistaking that steely look in his technicolor eyes, that thousand-yard stare reminiscent of a war veteran having a flashback.

Peering into the two girls' souls with his unblinking gaze, the wise old ape pulled a Pokéball out of his white, furry coat, and hurled it into the air, unleashing a Clefable whose eyes were glowing an eerie purple hue. Trainer Oranguru wanted to battle.

“Yeah, that sounds like Ranger business,” Elinor replied after being briefed on what felt like an almost impossible tale. Similar to whenever a school kid tried to convince their teacher that their Poochyena ate their homework. Pokémon couldn’t become trainers, right?

She wasn’t granted a lot of time to ponder the philosophy of the situation as a manly cry prompted Both Andrea and Elinor to run towards the source. Though as they arrived Andrea stopped suddenly in her tracks. Elinor heard the mutterings. She sent a puzzled look toward Andrea as she asked. “Do you know that one?”

Though it didn’t give them a lot of time to converse, as it challenged them to a battle. “Seems like it wants to battle…” Elinor stated. “But, two on one is a bit unfair. I will go first.” Elinor pulled out her Pokéball and threw it into the air allowing an intimidating Aggron to burst out in front of her. “Groooo” it growled, looking towards the Clefable. Then it looked towards the trainer challenging them before sending a confused look towards Elinor.

“I know. Gron. Don’t think about it too much.” Elinor simply stated.

"Yeah, we've met..." The dragon-hooded girl replied to her friend's inquiry, before narrowing her eyes at the highly intelligent orangutan. "What's wrong with you? First you try to sacrifice people to a dragon god, and now you're stealing other trainers' Pokémon and using them to battle? Why are you doing this?"

The ape did not answer, continuing to stare at them instead. It looked like they had no choice but to accept his challenge. While Elinor sent out an Aggron that looked like Barron's identical twin, Andrea turned towards her Hydreigon with a trusting look. "I don't know how well Chomper can do against a Fairy type, but we'll do our best!" She declared.

Trainer Oranguru thrust his leaf fan forward, commanding the mind-controlled Clefable to strike Chomper with a meteoric fist. "Meteor Mash?! Why didn't he go for a super effective move?" Andrea pondered with a puzzled look, while Chomper growled in anger and retaliated with a Crunch that barely fazed the resistant Clefable.

The fact that they had met was all she needed to know. Though the following questions did specify the situation a little bit, even if they raised more questions than they answered.

Elinor gave a small nod. If she remembered her type-chart correctly Clefable was a Fairy-type which was strong against Dragon and Dark-type. Aggron would have to do the protecting.

Aggron allowed a silvery metal light to wash over his body for a brief second. Seemingly coming out more polished and sturdy than before. Though while doing so he watched the two Pokémon engage in close combat. “I do not know. Maybe it doesn’t understand Type interactions?” Elinor answered Andrea’s ponderings.

Once Aggron had finished his preparations, he would charge at the Clefable from the side. The previously silvery metal light condensed around its claws and increased their length. It would aim for a direct hit, trying to end the battle quickly, but not necessarily painlessly.

The rhinoceros' metallic claws connected with the lunar fairy, who cried in pain. Calling the Clefable back into its ball, Trainer Oranguru switched it out for a new Pokémon: A round, floating rock with five white spikes protruding from its mineral body.

"A Minior? What a strange team..." Andrea mused, getting increasingly perplexed by the ape's game. A Rock type probably wouldn't fare much better against Aggron's Steel-type moves than the Clefable did, so why switch it out? Was Oranguru truly the worst trainer in history, or was he planning something?

The Minior used Shell Smash, shedding its rocky outer coating to expose its neon pink Core, then barreled towards the duo with a boosted Rollout attack. Chomper intercepted the attack with his own Outrage, barely keeping the Meteor Pokémon at bay with his draconian might.

It seemed the Oranguru finally understood the difference in power between a Pokémon whose attacks have a type advantage and one who doesn’t. It retrieved the Clefable and summoned a Pokémon that Elinor had to admit, she had never seen before. “Minior?” She looked a bit confused towards Andrea.

But she figured the girl wouldn’t have time to give a rundown of it. So she would simply have to rely on her trainer’s intuition. From the way it floated, and its rocky appearance. She could only assume it was some sort of Rock/Psychic-type.

But before she could finish her deductions, the Minior went to work Smashing its shell before using the newfound increase in power to perform a Rollout. The Hydreigon seemed to do all in its power to keep the rolling Meteor at bay.

Elinor’s Aggron wasn’t about to let Hydreigon have all the fun. The plate upon its head began to glow a similar silvery-metal-white as the claws before it. The Aggron charged forwards trying to meet the Minior head-on in a contest of power using its IRON HEAD.

It wasn't much of a contest, to be frank. With its weakened defenses, the Minior was easily knocked out by the combination of the two attacks. Completely unperturbed, Trainer Oranguru sent out an Altaria to replace it.

"Oooh, it looks so pretty! I wanna bury my face in its fluff and sleep there!" Andrea went into fan girl mode for a minute, before remembering that they were in the middle of a battle. "Right, that must be his last Pokémon. Let's do our best!"

The bird-like dragon spread its fluffy wings and cried into the heavens, summoning a rain of flaming meteors from the sky. "That's Draco Meteor! Chomper, watch out!" The Dragon type enthusiast cried out, ducking to safety herself, as the meteors crashed all around them, razing the very ground they stood on.

While the Hydreigon tried his best to dodge most of the descending projectiles, he still wound up taking hefty damage from them. Ever defiant and seemingly immune to pain in his berserk state, he charged straight into Altaria with another Outrage.

Though Aggron was struck by the attack in the process of hitting the Minior, the damage was negligible in the grander sense of things. Oranguru seemed unperturbed, which unnerved Elinor a fair bit. A feeling she was quickly pulled out of when Andrea began to fangirl over the newly summoned Alteria. Even Elinor had to admit she was somewhat infatuated with the prospect of snuggling in a cloud of fluff.

Elinor wondered what this Pokémon would do. But a sense of dread washed over her as the fluffy wings spread while the Alteria cried to the heavens for judgment. “Gron, protect yourself!” Elinor commanded.

He didn’t have to be told to do that. Though instead of running or dodging like the Hydreigon, it instead chose to do the manly thing and stand his ground. A shimmering blue-greenish field of energy extended from around it. Protecting it as the Meteors crashed down upon it.

Meanwhile, Elinor had to dodge and jump for cover, as the Oranguru trainer was indifferent to collateral damage. A sigh of relief escaped her as the meteor shower stopped. She turned her attention towards where she thought Andrea would be and asked. “Are you alright?”

Once the danger of falling objects from the sky had passed. Aggron’s aura would change into a golden hue as he would charge toward the Alteria aiming to tackle the poor creature with the entirety of its body. Knowing full well that it wouldn’t take damage from the recoil which normally happened due to Double-edge.

Having expended much of its energy in unleashing its most powerful attack, the Altaria could not withstand two opponents at once. It was only a matter of time before fatigue took its toll, and eventually it happened, Aggron's high-impact move being what sealed the deal. He and Chomper were victorious.

Returning what seemed to have been his last Pokémon into its ball, Oranguru kept staring intently at the two young women, almost as if expecting something from them. Being a wild animal, he had no prize money to gift them, but all previous hints pointed to this having been no regular battle.

"I'm alright... I think." Andrea replied to Elinor, while dusting off her bright-colored costume. She then placed a hand on her chin, thinking deeply. "Wait a sec. Meteor Mash, a Meteor Pokémon, and Draco Meteor... I think this whole battle Oranguru was trying to tell us something!" And she had a hunch she knew what that was, but would Elinor reach the same conclusion?

The defeat came swiftly to the Alteria. Aggron almost felt bad when it looked down upon the beaten body of the fluff dragon. But then it remembered the Meteors raining down upon him and all sense of guilt washed away. He felt an urge to stomp on the poor bird’s neck for endangering his trainer. But refrained. He had to be better than such urges.

Lo and behold the Oranguru retrieved the Pokémon. And Aggron turned to see if his trainer was alright. Full glad was he when he saw more covered in dust than wounds.

Elinor didn’t notice the turning of her Pokémon, her focus laid upon Andrea who seemed to have some sort of revelation. And as Andrea’s words reached her it dawned upon her. It had been so obvious, it couldn’t be a coincidence. “Wait, you are not telling me that you think this whole battle was some attempt at warning us of the impending disaster, do you?” She said clearly referring to the subject of that one HNN article. She turned her gaze towards the Oranguru trying to see if it responded to her words.

Yep, it looked like they both had the same idea. Andrea pulled up the relevant HNN article on her Rotom Phone, holding the screen up for Oranguru to see. "Is that the 'star of death' you were talking about back at the island?" She asked, to which the wise ape nodded affirmatively.

Chomper landed near his confused owner, slightly battered from the gauntlet, but otherwise fine. "So the reason you were challenging people to a battle was because you wanted to warn them too?" The dragon-hooded girl asked, receiving another nod from the ape. "But why? The Commissioner said she has a plan to deal with the meteoroid, so there's nothing to worry about."

Oranguru's technicolor eyes shot wide open, words of wisdom boring themselves into the two girls' minds thanks to his advanced telepathy: The solution of the white woman will bring nothing but pain and untold horror...

"What the hell's going on here?" The Black Belt from earlier scratched the back of his head confusedly. Apparently he was not privy to the ape's telepathic message.

Elinor allowed the dragon-styled Andrea to do the talking. She seemed to have had prior experience with the Oranguru. It seemed their shared idea had been correct. The Oranguru was merely acting as some sort of doomsday prophet.

Alas when Andrea questioned why the Oranguru was so worried, she felt a pang of pain as intrusive thoughts entered her mind. Though it was thoughts not of her own making but the Oranguru’s. Elinor looked confused at the Oranguru and asked. “What do you mean by that?” Of course, maybe it didn’t know, but still, the question left her mouth before she could ponder the probabilities.

Still, her attention was moved away from the Monkey when The Black Belt from earlier arrived, confused by what was going on. “Don’t worry we’ve got everything under control here.” She tried to reassure the confused trainer.
