Things Poppy had done that, honestly, were probably fucking stupid;[break][break]

Which, in her defense, it had seemed like a good idea up until five minutes before the whole deal went down. She was a runaway, for fuck's sake, so she wasn't about to pass up the opportunity for some sort of protection. Even if she had reached out to whoever-the-fuck this was through some shady third party source.[break][break]

Even if meeting in some shady-ass cave also felt like a good way to get killed. She could see it now; the most current picture of her, glaring daggers at the camera, posted on some news show.[break][break]

Maybe she should have bought one of those cheap, tourist-trap store knives before she decided to show up. Was it too late for that? It was probably too late for that; when she had last checked her phone, she had already almost missed the meeting time they had decided on.[break][break]

She'd just have to hope for the best, even if the best didn't seem entirely likely.

the tunnels of rustboro city were largely still new to him, considering how he had only recently established his business ventures in the area. that being said, it was the most convenient location for him to arrange this meeting.

[break][break] jayden had instructed the low-level grunt who brought @poppy through to give as little details as possible. after all, these types of ventures could always go south if he wasn't careful. after all, wasn't that something that his own mentors had taught him?

[break][break] he wondered briefly what it would have been like, had he been a different person with a different sort of life. would a young jayden have risked his life to meet the likes of Cillian Quinn or THEO BECKETT in these tunnels, all for the sake of anonymity?

[break][break] he hears the crunch of tell-tale footsteps, and looks up. surely enough, the grunt appeared at the end of the tunnel —

[break][break] 'don't worry, we're almost there.'

[break][break] jayden could hear the hushed whispers not too far off, almost as if jayden hadn't been tracking them the moment the stepped within the confines of the tunnel with his own ghost pokemon.

[break][break] when she neared, the chandelure that had been leading them down the path would float forward to return to jayden's side. she would find the rocket member standing in a bit of moonlight created from a hole in the cave, with no one else but a shiny umbreon at his side.

[break][break] "you're @poppy , correct?" he nods quickly at the grunt to signify the trade-off, and the other boy goes scampering back outside of the cave. jayden doesn't blame him — it's cold and wet in here. hopefully they can complete what's needed sooner rather than later.

[break][break] though it depends on her, after all.

With every step Poppy takes, they're more and more certain they're just being lead to their doom. The boy leading her along, who honestly doesn't look much older than Poppy herself, tries to be reassuring, promising that they were almost there.If anything, it mostly serves to do the opposite, pulling a scoff from Poppy.[break][break]

Yeah, that's sort of the problem. [break][break]

She's half-tempted to speak up and just say she'll fend for herself when she catches sight of the other man, waiting nearby. If it wasn't too late to back out before, it absolutely was now- but it was fine. Probably. Maybe she'd be left alone for the most part if she seemed confident in her choice or something. With no other way to defend herself, it was the best she could do.[break][break]

The boy seems eager to get the hell out of dodge, though, and Poppy finds that she can't entirely blame him, watching as he goes until she's spoken to. Her attention shifts to Jayden for a moment, and she tries to figure out if she could take him in a fight if it absolutely came down to it-[break][break]

Absolutely not. Not unless she took him by surprise, and that was probably just as unlikely. "That's me." She relents, finally, although the tension does not leave her shoulders. "You're not going to just drag me back?"[break][break]

Or kill me is unspoken, but something tells Poppy she won't have to voice those doubts.

[break][break] he considers his answer. the truthful one would be maybe. as with everything in rocket, this comes with stipulations. for one, it depended on who she was speaking to — was she speaking to jayden? or was she speaking of rocket in it's entirety? as for jayden himself, dragging someone along was typically not his preferred method of dealing with someone.

[break][break] frankly, disposing of them was easier.

[break][break] second, it all depended on how she acted. loyalty was one thing that both old rocket and new rocket seemed to have in common, and if poppy wanted to engangle herself in the nest, then at least jayden would have no problems with her.

[break][break] "no," he says, deciding on a half-lie. at least not yet.

[break][break] for @poppy , jayden would not appear particularly threatening or non-threatening. he simply just was. the young man was around 5'10" in height, dressed in casual attire, and otherwise looked relatively harmless. then again, his expression was perfectly bland and inexplicably enigmatic — for the right person, this would be enough cause for alarm.

The man isn't entirely threatening- although Poppy isn't sure if that's on purpose or not. She doesn't trust him, she's decided, and won't- not until she finds that she has a reason to. If she finds a reason to.[break][break]

The fact that he says he's not going to drag her back to her family should mean something, but there's always that other alternative- if this man catches any of her unspoken doubts, he doesn't make any attempt to reassure her. Not like the other boy, even if it hadn't worked out that way.[break][break]

She doesn't know if the lack of reassurance is supposed to help or keep her on guard, but it does both. Briefly, she glances towards the Umbreon- she doesn't know much about those Pokemon, but it'll probably be trouble if worst comes to worst.[break][break]

The man has a question for her, though, and it's her turn to pause. Now that she's here, she isn't entirely sure. It would be easy to go home, deal with the consequences and curl up in her own bed. It'd be warm, and she'd have her Pokemon with her, and she wouldn't have to worry about if she was actually risking her life meeting up with strangers.[break][break]

The pause is probably too long as she debates her options, but she finally speaks. "No." Her voice is almost shaky, though, and she hesitates before trying to gather her will. "No. I don't." She repeats again, with more conviction this time- although, in all honesty, it's just as much to convince herself as it is to convince this man.[break][break]

"I never got your name, anyways." She's probably realizing it much too late, but she's making an attempt anyways. Something about the idea of her name being known while this man's is not doesn't sit well with her.

at @poppy 's response, jayden looks at her perhaps a second too long. almost long enough to be a stare, but not quite. for the unkeen observer, one may assume that it was because the blond had said something wrong. in reality, jayden was simply assessing her — her mannerisms, her words, her potential.
