once again, he was at a place he would not ordinarily find himself being. festivals were a complicated matter for him — not a bad memory, necessarily. actually quite the opposite.

[break][break] today, he accompanied oscar clayton. the two had met on several occasions, including the star soiree and when jayden had first been promoted to his beast title. despite the change of position, it seemed that some things on hoenn remained unchanged — at the very least, he knew he could count on the other. he was more than a competent man.

[break][break] jayden blinks in surprise at the other's words.

[break][break] "of course not, sir. i would never betray rocket," he said, uncertain if he should be offended or chastised in this instance. perhaps did oscar think he couldn't handle it. glancing over the various stalls as their options, he wondered briefly if he should be perhaps.. dress the part.

[break][break] "do you think we should go in disguise?"

[break][break] though, pickpocketing was a relatively simple affair. they could likely stroll, as was. he was still curious to his superior's thoughts, however.

the excitement that resonated off the other was palpable, but jayden couldn't blame oscar. after all, he was getting to be a little excited too — the idea of facing off against a beast and proving his skill was more than enough incentive for jayden to take this little activity seriously.

[break][break] he gives a small nod of acknowledgement, and then they are off — to the races.

[break][break] so to speak, anyway.

[break][break] as oscar goes off giggling, jayden's approach is silence. he has the benefit of being an overall unacknowledgable person — at least that is the wa that he has coordinated most of his life, and in the middle of a busy fair, such a task is not difficult either. one of his rattata sneak past him and into the crowd.

[break][break] jayden himself takes to the first stall that catches his interest, which is a weaponry stall. as the patron is distracted by the loud conversation of two broad-shouldered men, he easily sneaks one of the blades into his possession and is out of sight before one can even notice. there's a fabric booth that sparks the interest of many in the distance, nearly enough for jayden as well.

[break][break] but instead, he finds his interests drawn to a booth opposite of them. this one doesn't have any particular gaudy displays of color. in fact, all that lay in front of him are several different trinkets, many of which are meant to be child's play or at least he presumes.

[break][break] the shopkeeper peers at him, with a frown. "anything of interest, young man?"

[break][break] jayden glances at him. out of the corner of his eye, he can see ivan skitter in the shadows. "maybe. what is that?"

[break][break] he points to a piece that appears like an alarm clock, which surprisingly causes the man's face to grin. "oh, this is a family heirloom from galar. on the sides, you can see the inscription of the royal family." jayden reaches over to pick up the object, running his fingers along the smooth surface, feigning interest.

[break][break] all the while, his rattata snoops along the treasure, looking for something that would win his trainer's affection.

[break][break] without any official testing, jayden can see that likely this is a false statement. after all, the gold is worn on the sides and the diamond border is too hard to the touch to be real. that being said, it would provide quite an interesting topic of discussion. perhaps even Remiel Calcifet would find interest in it.

[break][break] he hands over the cash to the salesman, and soon enough they are off to one more vendor. a quick glance to his watch tells jayden that there is at least a little more time before he is assigned to meet up with oscar clayton.

[break][break] he passes by a few more stalls on the way — a fisherman's boon, a woodmaker's hutch. he finds himself wondering if there is anything of interest when he passes by a botonist's booth. there are a few small bonsai on display.

[break][break] as his rattata skitters in the backdrop, his eevee ducks underneath the table to assist with HELPING HAND. he picks a few dark-colored berries from the tree, while jayden occupies the shopkeeper with idle conversation. when they are complete, jayden has a handful of curious berries, and a beautiful golden pen pried from the vendor's own wallet.

his face lights up as he spots oscar clayton from a distance away, waving him over. jayden obliges quickly, quickening his footsteps.

[break][break] he glances over at the bracelets that oscar shows. they are lovely, but not at all the same value that he might have been expecting of the rocket beast. then again — perhaps it really was a dash of luck.

[break][break] "i have a watch, golden pen, and this galar heirloom." he frowns at the last, however, turning over the item in his hand as he views it. it looks just like a tiny statue of a strange man that looks vaguely like one of Remiel Calcifet's descendants.

[break][break] after another moment of consideration, jayden glances over at the rocket beast. "what if we call it a tie?" jayden flashes a quick smile, before gesturing to a booth. "i'm kind of hungry. we should get some lunch before we leave."

[break][break] maybe oscar could sell his collection of bracelets to the grunts — tell them that it was a new form of identification.
