Now, more than ever, the services of the Rangers were needed.

Although, he had to scratch the back of his head—weren’t Combee (and Vespiquen) normally very docile Pokémon? At the same time, though, there were no reports of a swarm of them, however they were congregating in very large, alarming numbers—

Which was definitely a cause for worry among the local populace who weren’t careful lest they run afoul of an angry Vespiquen.

“Well, shit,” was all he could say.

There were even some local Combee keepers that had turned out to advise people how to handle them—and here he was, holding a couple of the protective gear that they were handing out.

“Easier said than done with catching one of them for study,” he added with a sigh.

The bee protective gear was swelteringly hot to be in, but Callan donned it regardless. In the midst of the sweltering heat, the gear was like a tomb, but they trudged near the outskirts regardless. "Yeah, but it should be okay, they gave us a bit of their dazzling honey." Callan opened the satchel that he had been given, inside were "cakes" made from rice mochi and honey.

Using them should hopefully make catching one easier. "Let's find a place to set up first?"

“I don’t know how the hell they can stand wearing this every single day, I salute them, honestly,” he said from behind the protective gear.

Because holy fucking shit, it felt like a hazmat suit—only instead of disposing potentially dangerous material, they were here to quell a horde of Combee.

But what was making them congregate in such numbers, without provocation? Did their Vespiquen die, or something?

(Sometimes the intricacies of certain jobs made his head hurt. Combee-keeping happened to be one of those.)

“Where do you suggest we try to lure them? Can’t have them swarming too far into the city proper.”

"Yeah... no kidding, this thing is a tomb." Callan replied, except tombs were nice and cold, whereas this thing merely gave him heatstroke. Callan surveyed the area, they were in a dilipadated area nearing the outskirts towards Route 124, and already, the Combee swarms became evident.

Scouts would likely be traveling towards this direction soon, if they could catch one without alerting the swarm, that'd be best.

"Let's set up... there, behind that ruined shop." Callan pointed towards what seemed to be a broken down automotive repair shop. Surrounding it was the growing ruins of grass and murky water, but it had a nice view over open grassland nearing the forests now infested with Combee. "I'm thinking we set a bait down, wait for a scout to investigate, then try to catch it." He turned towards Lars. "How does that sound?"

As luck would have it, there was an abandoned, dilapidated shop that offered them enough cover—and the further they went from the city proper, the more Combee were swarming.

“Even the Combee keepers are at a loss on the strange behavior. From what one of them said, they normally don’t congregate in big swarms unless their Vespiquen is dead, but see that’s the strange thing,” he remarked as he pointed at one of the bigger clusters—

There was a Vespiquen among the number.

“How do they explain that, then?”

At the suggested idea, the only thing they would need to do was to wait.

“Be careful you’re not seen when you set up the lure, you might get swarmed,” he told the other as he kept an eye out on one of the smaller Combee clusters.

As for which Pokémon he was going to use to trap a Combee…

He had to be discreet as he quietly summoned Ro, his Metagross, before quickly shoving the shining silver beast into the undergrowth.

“Shh, don’t let them see you,” he warned the Pokémon.

Callan nodded, the beekeeper gear was not exactly built for rangering, stealth, or being silent, luckily, he had his Pokemon with him. Calling out Eurea, his Gardevoir, Callan warped in and out of existence. One moment, he was situated inside the middle of a dilipidated house, the next, he was in the field with a back of danzling honey mochi.

He went to work quickly as Lars spoke. "Yeah." He spoke, under his breath, as he bound the mochi cake with dazzling honey mixed in with a large spore of brightpowder. With his job done, Callan had Eurea teleport them back to where Lars was. "Trap's set." He spoke, looking towards his large, silvery companion. "We might be here for a little bit."

That, and he hoped the cakes weren't stolen by some other bug pokemon. But given their proximity to hyper aggressive combee, it wasn't likely.

It was at this point that a pair of Combee, one with a red triangle at the bottom face, began to approach the mochi cakes. "There they are... you gonna suprise them with Ro?"

Apparently, when it came to swarming Pokémon—especially if there was a Vespiquen around, whatever else wanted to swarm had the tendency to stay the hell as far away as possible.

“Yeah, Telekinesis and hold ‘em, so we can bring them in,” he nodded while the Metagross ‘sat’ there quietly, watching and waiting for something (hell, anything) to happen.

He was tempted to take out a cigarette and smoke, but fact of the matter was he would have to hold out until—

“Perfect,” he nodded; as it was a pair of male and female Combee; before the Metagross quietly used Telekinesis and awaited the pair to approach the lure, just to be on the safe side.

Callan nodded, decent enough, not like a pair of combee would be able to match against a Metagross. Callan moved quietly through the brushes, waiting for the opportune time that the scouts began to munch down on the honeycakes, before Callan turned towards Lars and signalled that now would be a great time.

Callan raised his pokeball up, when Ro would use telekinesis to hold the Combee in place, Callan threw the ball, launching it from the grass to hit it squarely from behind to capture the bees into the capsule. "Got mine, how about you Lars?"

At the same time that his trusty silver ~~beast~~ ~~steed~~ companion had hoisted the Combee into the air after they’d mostly demolished the ‘lure’, he fumbled a bit, before finally pulling out an empty Pokéball and throwing it after Callan had caught his.

“Time to get to the bottom of this, wouldn’t you agree?” he agreed once the Metagross had released the surprised Combee from the Telekinetic hold, watching as his own occupied containment unit remained hovering in mid-air as opposed to falling to the ground.

“Well, I don’t think they’re going to resist, anyway,” he remarked as he plucked the levitating Pokéball from out of thin air.

“Hopefully this can help us get to the bottom of whatever the hell is causing them to swarm,” he added once they were in the clear, taking off the protective gear and relishing the feeling of fresh air.

God, the protective gear was so fucking hot it was like being inside an oven toaster.
