it's not fast enough.

[break][break] pain explodes against his side as the other's fists collide against his cheek. not enough to ruin him, but certainly not the impact he needed. he doesn't need to look back at jayden to see the disappointment in his master's gaze.

[break][break] angry fire burns in his chest as the duskull suddenly rushes forward, once again fists glowing. this time, when he rushes forward with a punch it is not filled with calculation or decision; it's full of PAYBACK.

there's something primal about fighting on raw emotions alone; a scratch in the back of his mind that settles an itch that rises only in these moments.

like his opponent, he embraces it. the cold, calculating veteran is pushed to the wayside as he aims to become one with the aura around him.

PAYBACK lands on the lucario's cross-guarded forearms and he grunts in pain, his own arm relenting with enough force to bruise his chest no-doubt. the pain would inevitably come later, but with the amount of adrenaline coursing through his veins, it's a temporary setback at best.

retaliating in kind, he tosses one, two, three METEOR MASHES at the ghost-type, fully intending to bring it down to size.

the battle is nearing it's end. jayden can see as much, he can see the exhaustion that tinges his pokemon's ghostly exterior, the pain that surges in his face even as he speeds forwards with another punch.

[break][break] as the meteor mash crashes down on him, his arms fly up. a PROTECTIVE barrier rises up, a last-ditch effort to save himself.

there's only so much he can do, as he's bombarded with the barrage of attacks. the barrier that he erects is flimsy as best, thrown up as a last-ditch effort.

[break][break] it's true. the barrier won't last.

[break][break] when it breaks, it shatters — casting glass shards across the arena that many have to duck away from. the aura sphere comes shortly after, crashing into the duskull's chest.

[break][break] when the dust clears, one can find only one pokemon standing. it isn't jayden's.

[break][break] violet eyes glance up at his opponent, a dip of his head as they are brought together in the center of the arena, a handshake offered out.

[break][break] up close, he can make the connection. up close, he can tell — of course KING WAYLAND would be the one to defeat him.
