No. They are, in fact, not kidding, and no matter how long Mars stares at the text message, it doesn’t change the fact that out of all Rocket associates out there, apparently only Klaus ‘Puke Boy’ Anchoret is available to come provide backup when he had requested it.

Even though the request had come from Sootopolis itself.

Even though it’s for the sake of the city’s safety.

With a heavy sigh, Mars makes a mental note to look into the matter of grunt and associate assignments later, since for now he has much more pressing problems to deal with.

Such as the Absol of more than one citizen apparently going wild: acting panicked, running away, and even turning aggressive for no apparent reason. One of them had even made it to the shopping district when Mars himself had been at POG Bank’s branch, but it had run off amongst the nearby buildings before he could capture it.

Walking at a leisurely pace as he makes his way through Sootopolis towards the air-taxis, Klaus hums a curiously note when his phone pings. He pulls up to a stop, his brow furrowing in confusion at the text directing him to turn around and head back towards the city.

"The fuck," he utters in confusion, reading over the text twice before heaving a deeply unsatisfied sigh. Of course he's been paired with Mars and of course it's to corral someone's anxiety-ridden Absol of all things. Silently cursing Rocket as a whole as he picks his way back through the streets to the indicated address, Klaus lifts his hand to haphazardly wave at Mars when the businessman comes into view.

"Aren't you located in like, Slateport," Klaus asks as he nears, unable to help the slight wrinkle of his nose as he peers up at Mars. Reminded of his last meeting with the man, in which Klaus nearly died at the hooves of a careening Spectrier through the woods, he peers around for a moment as if to ensure the horse is nowhere in sight.

Then, before Mars can actually answer, "We're chasing Absol?"

Sure, Mars may be out here, in public, as his civilian persona and not one of Team Rocket’s higher ups, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t at least deserve a greeting, does it? And yes, he’s well aware that Klaus is only a couple of years younger than him, but if he acts like a kid, he gets treated as one.

Unlike Mars himself, who is obviously the perfect example of maturity.

He’s here because he has work to do, and he definitely wouldn’t put that at risk for the sake of mocking Klaus. Remember that!

”The bank has branches all over the region, I travel a lot.” The explanation is easily given, but he doesn’t bother with explaining anything beyond that. As CEO, it’s not often that Mars visits POG Bank’s actual branches, but due to Sootopolis’... situation, this is the one where he oversees things most closely. Aside from the main branch in Slateport, that is.

”The Absol ran off among those buildings. Keep an eye out, there’s a few of them acting erratic and aggressive.” The banker sighs, reaching for one of the minimised Luxury Balls clipped to his belt and summoning a huge Braviary of dark plumage. The pokémon spreads its wings, staring at them from behind a mask of flames and letting out a powerful screech. ”Boreas, have a look from above. Let me know if you see any Absol.”

As Mars says, the Braviary does, taking off beneath the high canopy of the gargantuan Tree of Life.

"Right," Klaus answers flatly. Just his luck.

He falls silent as Mars relays what is known about the Absol situation, his eyebrow arching slowly. Absol. Wonderful. "I'm gunna," he jerks his thumb back towards the nearby alleyways. "Yeah." Klaus finishes speaking lamely, his gaze casting upwards for a moment towards the released Braviary. His lips pursing, Klaus then releases his Dragapult and instructs her, "We're looking for scared Absol. Let's go."

The Dragapult gives a nod, glancing around thoughtfully. She then phases out, gone for nearly a minute before she returns. Trilling at her trainer, she points down one of the alleys and Klaus gives a nod. Shoving his hands back in his pocket, he calls over his shoulder to Mars, "I'll text you if I find one."

Klaus is then gone before Mars can respond. Best if they keep as much distance between each other lest Klaus embarrass himself or find a new reason to try and hold his superior's head under the water.

One minute he’s there, the next he’s not, almost as if he’s doing everything in his power to try to stay as far away from Mars as humanly possible. But, that’s ridiculous, isn’t it? Mars is a joy to have around. klaus anchoret should count himself lucky that he gets to spend this time alone with him. Others would kill for such an opportunity!

Alas, Mars watches Klaus go without saying a word, doing no more than letting out a sigh before turning his attention to the skies. There, his Braviary circles around the area towards which the lighthouse keeper is headed, apparently having also found the Disaster Pokémon they’ve been searching for.

Unbeknownst to Mars, the Absol has reached one of Sootopolis’ narrow alleyways, and finding itself without a lot of options left to run towards, it decides to hide from its pursuers – ready to strike if needed…

”Maybe I should follow along in case he gets himself in trouble…” The banker thinks before walking in the direction Klaus had gone.
