Dear Arceus, what a day had it been. Malik hadn't even been on duty today, that was his damn day off, the one day off he had that week, ruined by and old couple trying to spark up their love life, and what a spark it was. Lucky for him someone who had nothing to do with the situation helped him take of the pokemon caught inside the burning house. [break][break]

A deal was a deal. Malik had taken the two of them to a well known bar that Malik was a regular of, being born in this town had it's perks after all and one of them was drinking for free because he was a fire fighter. Lucky him. Pulling up two chairs at the bar, one for himself and one for Matias. "I'll have two of the usual for now." Malik would towards the barkeeper who would instantly pull up two shot glasses and some good ol' Tequila. "Rough day?" The barman would ask the singed up Malik. "Old geezers trying to spruce up the relationship... You know how it is." With that said the barkeep would walk away laughing and leaving the battle behind for the two.[break][break]

"Bottoms up! Sir Matias!" He would say with a smile before taking the shot and putting down the glass on the table by them. The other shot being for Matias a form of starter so they could just end up drinking whatever they wanted after, likely something colder and refreshing.

Malik was glad that the man the in front of him also joined for the shot. It would have been real awkward if the shot would have been left there. Seeing that Matias was asking for the beers, having his full faith in the bartender after years of coming here and by that he only meant two years of being a regular. He hoped that the bartender would give him the a shandy instead of just the beer. Something more citrus, something that reminded him of summer, a different hellish heat that they had just endured. [break][break]

"I've been fighting fire since I was twelve. With the force for about two years" Malik would say and nod towards the bartender who had brought them their drinks. Malik screaming on the inside because he had his shandy. "What about you? Really doubt you do this as a job too" And if he did do the same job as Malik it wasn't in this city.[break][break]

though some might have found it hard to believe, matias doesn't if only because of his own experiences. he'd joined the army at sixteen but he'd been getting into fights long before.[break][break]

At this moment Malik was just pleased to have someone to drink with that he could talk with. "12 was the first time I was caught in a fire. Family home while my father was out." Malik would say with a small but saddened smile before taking a sip from his shandy. "But I'm here meaning I won my first fight.". Now nodding to himself gefore listening to the man in front of him once again.[break][break]

So Matias was part of the military, a different breed of heroes than the firefighters but still the sort that he respected deeply, their fights were the fights no one else would fight. The simple fact that he spoke of being happy about helping in a fire meant that this man has really seen some shit.[break][break]

The last bit of his answer was what really shocked Malik. First he would move his drink and place it safely away from him at the counter and taking a deep deep breath. "Are you fucking serious!? Me, someone who has never entered a pokemon gym here sitting and drinking with an elite four? There's no way, man! Pinch me right now." Malik would get up from his seat and walk around a bit just repeating "No way. No way." Before returning and downing his whole shandy.[break][break]

there's something oddly innocent about the way malik reacts to being seated next to a member of the elite four. matias isn't sure if it's called for or even deserved but he takes it all the same — with a grin.[break][break]

"you'd be surprised how often you'll run into someone famous here. just give it time."[break][break]

after a chuckle, matias downs his drink as well.[break][break]

What a unbelievable day Malik was having. Spending time with one of the elite four, saving pokemon from a fire and now having a cold drink. What moment in his life did he start becoming lucky like that? He had no clue but he was all for it right, a change of pace. He felt like a child once again, that had the dreams of becoming a bad ass pokemon trainer and fighting his way up to the top! "I've given about 20 years and the most famous person I've met was the dude that lives down the street over there! Man, this is so awesome!"[break][break]

The man child sitting down wouldn't even bat an eye at the pinch he received from Matias. Perhaps he had been to excited and the adrenaline from the burning building was still coursing through his veins but either way this was such a cool day that he would likely mark it on his mental calendar. "I cannot lie to a elite four but challenging gyms had been a childhood dream. Things just happened in such a twisted way that I simply never had the chance, work barely let's me go and I have a little town to look after." He would say with a chuckle. Life had really found ways to keep Malik in his place but he was always someone who had broken through many metaphorical walls by bashing his head enough times.[break][break]

"I figured as much but I guess I just got lost on my own promise that I forgot about my own freedom of choice? I don't really know! I just do things that are right in front of me and end up forgetting anything else. I have the attention span of a Goldeen, you might have noticed that." Malik would be lying if he ever said that he didn't want to take the gym challenges but to him he wasn't even a good trainer nor had he really prepared himself for that. The reason him and his pokemon were coordinated wasn't because of battles but because of the very specific training they received together. [break][break]

Taking a sip from his new drink. "Aaaaaaaah nothing better than something cold on days like these." He said with a sound of relief and listened attentively about the gyms. So there were almost something similar to rankings within the gyms, Malik had always assumed that it was just the pokemon types issue. "So you think I would have a chance at the easy ones? Assuming you do know all the gym leaders all around... Which is still crazy to think about." As far as he knew this could all still be a dream and a sign for him to move on with his life and follow his own path. [break][break]

the same can be said for any trainer, really. even matias, a member of hoenn's elite four has his weaknesses. he just masks them better than others and plays to his strengths.[break][break]

What a positive way to look at the other trainers out there. Malik himself never knew any trainers that had taken the challenges for the badges or if he had met someone they had never mentioned that they had any badges which was understandable, not everyone was willing to have that much attention on themselves. "It can't be as bad as saving people from fires, right? I doubt it could be as dangerous. I might finally take my vacation time and something productive." But not right now. Right now he was enjoying his time with someone that would have been his childhood hero.[break][break]

"Birds? Birds are nice! You're really inspiring me to go out there and start!" Malik would take a big sip from the blessing that was his cider. "So to get where you are as an elite four. Did you have to beat all the gyms too!? Oh damn! Can I see the badges?" Malik was starting to sound excited again but this time he would chill himself down but the question would stand.[break][break]

"Oh thank Arceus! I really need to take a break from the whole jumping into fire thing though. It's a very thankless job surprisingly. Most of our thanking comes when the team decides to come to the bar and get free drinks." Malik would say as he took a small sip from his cider. "It's not about thee thanking part though. Sometimes you take on a lot of burden... Losing someone is rough for everyone involved but we're the ones that have to instantly get up and keep going. No time to do anything else other than run straight through it." A longer sip would be taken this time.[break][break]
