He sniffed hard, trying to pull himself together. A pained smile takes over as she uttered his name and he can remember everything. He remembered the home he grew in, the parents he used to have. He remembered playing hide and seek in the forest, camping out in secret bases. He remembered pillow forts, and teasing, and trips to the grocery store. He remembered chemistry and mythos- time with not just his sister but his family as well. The taste of lavender cinnamon, and the pungent smell of burnt dough when he and her tried to do it themselves for their parents. [break][break]

The man's hands grab her own. He is shaking, but he needed to keep it together. Finally. Something inside him is being undone. "Concord Hallas." he said, grip tight as he stared into red eyes. [break][break]

"I thought you were dead." His words are heavy, carrying a double meaning. He smiled before letting go and pulling Eris into a tight hug, shaking with silent sobs.

He'd held aloft this dream- this reunion like something impossible. Like a long lost hope that kept him going on the one in a million chance it might come true. It'd fed him a sense of purpose, a reason to not just throw himself to the waves. He needed to be strong again, like had been for everybody else. What if he hadn't? And she were truly left all alone? [break][break]

He doesn't entertain that thought any further, scooping her up before she can run. IF that's what she might do. He can't let her get away. Not ever again. "Yeah? You found me." he said, a sob breaking any composure he had left as he squeezed her trying to prove to himself she was real. She was here, and she was real, and she wasn't just some poor kid he was projecting on. [break][break]

Tears stream down his cheeks, and his chest convulses with every sob. "You're heavy." he remarked after a while, when he's calmed down, but he doesn't let her go. He's not ready to let her see his puff eyes and sticky face.

And as he scoops her up to squeeze her like some kind of chew toy, she thinks: Oh, how close she is to punching him. Then as he drops the heavy comment, she decides it's time to act on it.[break][break]

Without the strength to break free and the space to swing, she resorts to a kind of underhanded jab. Sticking her fingers right between his ribs, she winces a little as the joints of her digits sting.[break][break]

"It's cause you were so small, you could fit in weirder places." he said, snorting at the girl. "Yeah, yeah! Then you dropped on me like a little Komala avenger." he said sighing in faux irritation. [break][break]

He looked over at the big cat with them, about to say something to the cat when he felt something sting him between the ribs. It's not too painful, but its enough to give him a start and he lets out a wheeze. "You lil' brat-" he said as the wheezing continued. "So ungrateful!" he said roughly rubbing his knuckles on the top of her head until it got hot. "Where'd you been hiding all this time anyway!?" he added squeezing and noogeying the child and he gathered himself once more, sniffling harshly.

The attack is relentless, but there's isn't really much that she can do to retaliate. Considering how Reiner simply watches on from the sidelines, she isn't breaking out any time soon. Despite it all, this little bit of chaos feels more comforting than anything else she's experienced recently.[break][break]

"I've... been staying with some nice people. They saved me and Reiner in Kanto, and they've been protecting us ever since."[break][break]

He relents, but not immediately. He pesters his little sister, making up for lost time, before relaxing a bit. It's as wild as ever. Like coming home again after a long day of classes. It takes him back to better times. He tilts his head, though not quite suspicious. More so just curious. "That's a long time." he noted, wondering what documentation there was, if any was available. "Did they change your name?" he asked, words light as he settles back into the couch. [break][break]

He lets her go but just enough to look over her hair and fix her hair which he'd done quite a good job in messing up. It's not too greasy, and he believed her when she said she was well cared for. Whoever that is. "Good, I'd like to meet them asap." he said, nimble fingers already pulling away hair ties and trying to untangle the mess he'd made. "I have some things I want to discuss with them." he added. He looked over at Ollie, who had settled down elsewhere. "Hairbrush, please." he said nodding over to his own room. The little cotton ball of a Meowth ran off, quick to retrieve it for him.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Reiner steps in as soon as Eris is let loose, nuzzling up to her, only to receive a palm in his face - The price of not coming to her aid in her conquest against her brother, it seems. But more than anything, the two of them face a giant cliff ahead of them, having to try and fill in the gaps of the time they'd lost.[break][break]

"Well... I had to spend a long time recovering since I had many injuries. I have lotsa new battle scars now though..."[break][break]

She'd worn long sleeves to cover things up, but just sneaking a peek at her exposed palms and legs speak volumes. Large patches of discoloured skin mar whatever the eye can see, echoes of a fire that had spread rapidly through the house. Many more recovering little cuts and gashes are added onto the strange patchwork of her skin, and the largest gash that had been torn into her back by accident stings just a bit as she remembers that incident.[break][break]

To any sane doctor, she might just seem like a walking miracle of sorts. And that's probably why she hasn't gone into any proper hospitals to receive checkups. No records of her survival, nothing to speak of the path she's taken.[break][break]

"Legally blind too, I was told." She laughs weakly, tracing the newest addition to her collection: a crooked, fading line over her left eye. With a little bit of time taken and attention for finer details, Paxton might just catch the fine line going straight over her cornea. "But no, I kept my name. I didn't want them to change it."[break][break]

On the surface, she simply wants to cling to the past, to hold onto the last remaining things that her parents had gifted her. ~~_{But deep down, she must've hated the idea of fully embracing something that had destroyed everything she once had.}~~[break][break]

"O- oh... you want to meet them..." It isn't as if she hasn't been prepared for him to ask, but she doesn't feel quite comfortable having to lie right to his face either.[break][break]

"He's pretty busy at times... a- and so are you. But I'm sure I can find a time where both of you can meet..."[break][break]

Ollie comes back, jumping onto the couch with ease and depositing the brush for Paxton to pick up. He gave the kitten a little scratch on the head before carefully combing through the girl's hair. The small smile drops, eyes becoming tired as he looks over Eris again. She's right. She's riddled in far more scars and marks than any child her age should have. She's lucky to be alive. His movements are gentle. He looked at where she spoke of, taking a moment to touch part of her scar. He doesn't ask how she got it. It's not important. "Well...we sort of match, in that respect." he said tugging the collar of his hoodie. [break][break]

She was close enough to see the simple tattoo covering over a large puncture and a violent gash. This close, it's a little easier to pick up the details. His hands are cut up in the similar fashion and there's lines that lead under his clothes. It hides many battles. But he was allowed to have that. He was the older one. Eris was just a kid. And for that's he's sorry all over again. [break][break]

"Good. I'm not callin' you anything else." he said with a final pat. He doesn't want to upset her, so he doesn't press further into whatever happened in Kanto. She could deal with that wit ha therapist. And him. If she ever got comfortable enough to tell him. [break][break]

"I have to. You're the only family I have left." He said, eyebrows furrowing as he focused on a particularly large knot of hair. "I'm not busy. work will understand." This kind of situation was bound to have precedent. A lot of Kanto refugees came over to Hoenn after all. He'd seen them himself. "There's a lot of research I have to do now. I only have...scraps of home for you. No real documents." he added. Paxton's relieved to have her back of course, but now...how did he explain a long lost sibling to his job? His peers? Then there's the issue of how this works out legally speaking. Custody, documents, schooling- "Have you stayed a home schooler this whole time?" he asked. Was she behind? Was she having problems? What was she up to? Concerns and questions pile up weighing heavy on him. He'd have to ask around work. Someone probably knew.

How much worry had she carried over whether he'd accept what had happened? How much had she hated about the thought that she might be far too different from the remaining family she had?[break][break]

What goes through her head will not be filtered, especially not in a moment as raw as this because of just how much respect she has for paxton concordas and how much she looks up to him... Even if the influence he has is a little questionable. But hey, considering the adults she had in her life, questionable influences aren't anything to worry about as long as she knows how to learn from their mistakes.[break][break]

"A- ah, then I'll try talking to him."[break][break]

At a makeshift grave - Some crack in the ground that doesn't even hold a shred of his existence. And Paxton wouldn't even know it, given how they'd never reported Ji-Hoon Ki as dead. The utility bills and taxes kept coming, the odd bits of mail and advertisement would still be found in the mailbox as if nothing had changed. It was only through prodding Prince for help that things would be settled, no matter how crudely.[break][break]

"Yeah, I have? I think so... maybe..." She snaps out of her hazy headspace to meet his gaze, uncertain of how exactly she's meant to answer this. After all, it's pretty hard to come up with one when she doesn't have a list of things she should know and tick off. "I read some books from time to time?"

"Huh?" he blurted out as Eris made her request. He doesn't outright say no, taken aback more than anything. But he isn't sure saying yes before he even has legal guardianship over her is appropriate. "I'll...consider taking you to my artist." he obliged, making no promises and setting no dates. [break][break]

"I'll take your word for it. Update me in a week." he said flicking the back of her head as a small reminder before going back to his work. He waits for her, letting her zone out and think at her own pace, busy combing through flaxen strands. He begins to separate her hair, ready to reapply the pigtails she seemed to like so much. He couldn't add braid or little sparkles, having nothing on hand. Maybe he'd buy some small hair bands for next time. [break][break]

"So you haven't been keeping up with your studies, then?" he asked with a small sigh. He supposed it's to be expected, but he's still a little disappointed. "You still bite and scratch at people?" he asked, snickering at the memory. He wraps the hairband around one half of her hair setting the pig tail and tightening it before moving onto the other one. A few moments later, he's tapping her shoulder. "Your hair pins, pick some out."

He tightens her pigtails one last time, setting the brush down before opening up the cat clippies. "Alright, hold still." he murmured as turned the girl just a bit, carefully separating her bangs as he attached the little Skitty. He nodded along to show he was listening, teal eyes focused on the girl's hair.

"Pops would still want you to have your diplomas." he said simply. "You have boxes to check off, just like I did." he added. He could've also chosen to learn under his parents, been home schooled. But then he probably would've become a hermit in the woods for real. "Besides, home doesn't have kids your age. It's not good to only have adult friends." he added as he attached the Luxray.

He gave her a thumbs up, before looking down as Ollie poked at him. He'd brought a small mirror from the bathroom as well, anticipating the request. "We're done. How's that?" he said as he handed Eris the mirror. "Anyway, just because you're doing regular school doesn't mean you can't stop inventing or scripting." He added. He knew she'd had a rough time in school when she was younger but...he couldn't be the only one for her. She needed people her own age. And so far he really didn't know how exactly she'd been socialized the past few years anyway.
