MARCH UPDATE

A week off from work. It'd been a while since he asked for it. Even longer since his request was answered. A city-boy at heart, Guy's first idea was to go to the city with the biggest theaters and malls.

His Noivern, faithfully, dropped him off in town at its edge. Guy stood there, in a white tracksuit, with red sneakers and red painted nails to match his earrings. He checked his phone, looking for the first wifi signal that didn't require a password. What an animal.

He started to walk, getting closer to the signal. It's... a mall? Guy stepped through the automatic doors, basking in the white light, the light like a dentist's office. He unzipped his collar, exposing his collarbone and neck. He'd almost be hot, were it not for his hair looking crunchy due to too much of his favorite 2 in 1 conditioner.

His Hoothoot sat on one shoulder, leaning in and trying to smell the food people walked out of the mall with.

"--Hey. I'm new in town, and I was hoping... you could show me where to get coffee." He said to the first person he saw, a blue haired youth who's slight of frame, with a gentle face. He caught himself looking into his eyes, and glanced away.

The Department Store is such a massive mall in it's own right, Mint often found himself returning often enough. If not for the sales, for the atmosphere. It's got AC, it's pretty well lit, and he knew a few specific nooks and crannies that made it perfect for taking a few OOTD pics. Which honestly, with how things had been going lately, he'd been doing a lot. Couldn't feel sad if you looked cute! A mantra Mint had often grumbled to himself as he threw his clothes around struggling to put something on just to get milk from the grocery store. [break][break]

There's no sad thoughts today though. No endless contemplating of how Gelatto always loved to walk the mall with him, content to follow Mint and play dress up as much as he wanted. Gelatto was always the spoiled type huh...? [break][break]

He sipping his frap when he's spoken to, about to keep moving before his eyes catch Guy's. Hmm. There's a split second where pale green eyes narrow as he went through the algorithm to determine whether or not this was a creep before settling on 'not'. He grinned, now processing the question with intent on helping. "Oh yah? I just got some. It's really close." He gave a little wave at the Hoothoot before something else caught his attention. Why was his hair so stiff looking? [break][break]

He shouldn't judge. He'd had those days. Still, he found himself running a hand through his own hair checking for excess dried up product. Maybe in his rush...no. No its nice and silky. Thank the Gods... "Here, I'll show you." he piped up nodding in the direction he'd come from. "Where are you from anyway?"

The mall was perfect. Pale lights overhead. A steady stream of people, but by no means was it filled to capacity. To top it all off, Guy managed to connect to the wifi signal overhead.

Was he being scanned? Assessed for something? His first instinct was to strike a pose, to make light of the whole thing. He hadn’t a clue what he’d done to merit this. The other man relented, but not before acknowledging his Hoothoot. Guy cast his eyes down at it, smiling. "You’re up awfully late, little man." He was met with an indignant chirping.

He nodded as he was told where to get coffee, and slowly trailed off after Mint. The first question could’ve had them both there all day. Where was he from. He opted for the short version.

His Hoothoot sat on one shoulder, watching Mint.

"I moved to Slateport for work, and stuck to the west coast ever since." He couldn’t admit it, but he liked the attention of those pale green eyes on him. Eyes that he’d never seen before. Perhaps he’d even welcome it if Mint were to jump him.

Mint snickered at the Hoothoot. "Right, they're nocturnal huh? Is that why you wanted coffee?" he grinned at the owl before pointing at the pristine little café where he'd gotten his frap from. He opened the door, letting Guy and his pokemon in first before following them in. It's not terribly busy, luckily. Not that Mint bothered waiting for the rush when he could order ahead on his phone. [break][break]

"Yeah? I moved here a couple of years ago now myself. I'm Mint by the way." It wasn't uncommon to meet transplants in Hoenn. Maybe less so now that the region had been locked in by a weird barrier. Then again, no one had checked if you could still come in...right? A hotel california thing. "What your field?" he said strolling up to the menu and gesturing at the immense range of options. [break][break]

Coffee. Your way. Not that Mint drank any of it. "Can I pet them?" he asked, waiting for the trainer to get distracted by the amount of options. He...he'd check. He had to. That...that fucking hair.

Hoothoot chirped, and leaned in to try to smell Mint. Guy followed, pushing through the bar on the glass-pane door. He walked right up to the counter, ordering the tallest latte he could, and a couple plain cake donuts to dunk in it. "She's the one thing getting me up for work on time." He was met with a little whistle.

Guy waited, leaning on the counter with an elbow. He then put a small bill in the tip jar, and looked aside as Mint started to talk about himself. His little earring jingled like a bell on a cat as he did so. "That's so sick, dude. My name is Guillaume Saint-Vincént, but I go by Guy. Where ya from?"

Guy glanced aside and paused, before pushing aside his bangs so he could look at Mint with both eyes. Guy's were a steely grey, so close to the off-white of a blind person's. But rest assured, he was looking right at him. Right down the bridge of his freckled nose.

"I was in a band, but we broke up and I found work at a grocery store. Still haven't found a use for my Geology degree." He said, before glancing down at his shoulder. He raised a painted nail to slowly pull Hoothoot from the lapel of his tracksuit, and offered the little owl to Mint in two cupped hands.

"Oh, you're nocturnal too then?" Mint replied. Night shift could be rough. He remembered the days of chasing down lenders with a bat and his pokemon. Gruesome work, hardly a good time. A struggle to keep up but...well once he'd gotten his money back he'd leaned off the loan sharking. Once Chu-e Choi had taken him under his wing, he'd had less and less time for side hustles. [break][break]

As one so easily distracted, Mint does not miss the jingling earring making a note that while it was pleasing to him, it did not completly erase the sins resting atop Guy's head. Still, he doesn't miss a beat replying with ease. "Nice to meet you, Guy. Short and sweet." [break][break]

"A band?! And then-...well I work in daycare sometimes. So much for Art History." he said back with a laugh. "You lick a lot of halite in your day?" he asked, eyes moving towards the HootHoot. He moved his hand, purposefully missing the pokemon and reaching up to accidentally pet Guy's head. His smile tightens. It is absolutely fucking crunchy. He pulls back quickly enough before moving to pet the HootHoot. He's gentle, carefully scratching feathers. "Sorry 'bout that Guy!!" he said as he fawned over his pokemon. "Got a little excited." he added, excusing himself before glancing over at the drink bar. "Hey, if your drinks ready mind coming with me to the bathroom?" he asked as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Not like girls didn't do that all the time.

Hoothoot chirped, and sat in Guy’s hands. After a minute, he put her away in a pokeball. He then turned back to Mint, his drink sitting infront of him. He’s smiling, and thinks for a second. "Yeah, man. I like… move stuff from the main freezer to the butcher’s freezer, then prepare cuts to sell when they open. I’m up between the hours of 11pm and 7:30. Then I skate home. The car is for day-trips."

Guy tilted his head to the side, thinking. Mint spent an awfully long time staring at him. Was he… you know. Guy has been known to swing that way too, sure. He responded by jutting his chin out, letting all three of the bells on his ear jingle again. He yawned, and tugged at the collar of his shirt to cool off. "Yeah, man. It feels like… I’m in trouble when people say my full name. Y’know… it’s like… school all over again, man."

“Yeah. We weren’t like, famous or anything, but it was important to make Emo records. Y’know, I was a troubled young man and I put on the radio and was like… this is so not me! This sucks. —If you lick a sample it could fall apart in your mouth. We had to ID them in other ways.” Guy glanced aside and paused, before moving to a table with his drink.

He cackled at first, then smiled at Mint. At that handsome guy who seemed to know his way around town. Guy put his hands in his pockets, and turned to face him. “Hell yeah, dude. Girls get to do shit like that all the time. And like… why should they get all the fun, man?”

"Well, sounds quiet at least. Anything but customers, you know?" he said with a laugh. He'd dealt with enough annoying trainers in his time working the front at the daycare center. That had probably been the most jarring experience of his life. Almost as bad as living back at home. [break][break]

"You got in trouble often then?" Mint asked before taking another sip of his drink. For his part, school had never been an issue. Easy enough, bullies left him alone. Pretty much everyone had left him alone. He gave him another once over, stopping again at the mess that was his hair. Emo kid huh? Maybe that's why he had so much product in his hair. Then again, he wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. That this wasn't on purpose. Please. Please Gods.... [break][break]

"I mean, you had a passion and followed it. Nothing wrong with that. Sounded like it was fun." He couldn't say the same for himself, but whatever. That's why he stopped going near paints. For the most part. The Egg Painting contest had been an exception. "Sick." Mint said wit ha grin before leading him to public restrooms. They're clean enough, spacious enough. It's not super busy, which is good. Cause this might look a little weird. He grabbed Guy by the hand bringing him to the sinks and the mirrors. Mint then took a long gulp of his frap and set it down before turning on the faucet. "I just- I wanna do you a quick favor ok?" he said, hand moving to grip the back of his shirt by the collar. "Deep breath please!" he said before shoving him under his eye level as hard as he could trying to get his hair wet. "You'll thank me later, I promise." Again, as if this was the most natural thing in the world. It absolutely wasn't. But he had the power to fix it. So he would.

Guy laughed, and thought for a second. Mint probably sympathized because he had to work too. He’s smiling, and bites his lip for a second. "Yeah, man. I don’t even have to answer the phone, and get an hour for lunch. I could probably set you up with an apprenticeship if you wanted it."

Guy tilted his head to the side, thinking. In retrospect, he WAS kind of a bad kid. And maybe they were right to have him at attention at all times with the name thing. He started to list his rap sheet, as if he was trying to impress him. Frankly, it was a miracle he even made it to college. "Yeah, apparently… you’re not supposed to have a skateboard… at all. Or sell your older sister’s cigarettes on the playground… Or draw dicks on your desk. Or pass notes in class. And you’re especially not supposed to switch the tapes, so the next class getting the hungover teacher playing PBS shows them all Nosferatu."

Guy glanced aside and paused. He really buried the lede there on about half of those. He nodded when told he followed his dream, and got all choked up for a second. Sometimes he still wanted to be playing bass and being gay. But for now, he stood and followed Mint to the restroom.

He thought for a second, as the two entered the tiled restroom. Guy always wondered what girls did when they went to the restroom together. Was he about to share a urinal with this guy? He didn’t even have to pee yet!

Luckily, they stood infront of the mirror together, and Mint started running the tap. He was then shoved under the running faucet, head first. The product seemed to leave his hair. Dried conditioner ran down the drain, leaving the room and Mint’s hands smelling of lavender and seaweed. A conditioner that doubled as hair gel in a pinch. As it left him, his hair was soft, but heavy with water. He then mashed the foaming hand soap pump, trying to get a fistful onto Mint’s head, so HE would have to rinse his oily hair. “You like to play rough, huh?”
