the future sight orbs shock self-preservation back into her system. she sucks in air as Felix Gallagher is forced to divert his attention toward the attacks overhead, arms shaking with effort as she tries to claw some of the dreepies off of her. [break][break]as they swarm her, she quickly realizes the futility in fighting back and shoves her hands down toward her belt, a far easier motion than trying to raise them. she palms the leather, knocking one of them loose. the ball bounces once, then her chesnaught appears. the wind whistles overhead as he swings a hammer arm at the dragapult. [break][break]
below deck, tuna leaps down from one of the open crates and follows after MATIAS SILPH .

HAMMER ARM slammed into the ghost type, sending it sprawling out toward the wall. He'd come to return, of course, but after taking such a direct hit, it'd take more than a few seconds for the dragon to recover.

Leaving Felix alone versus the young ranger and her knight. A frustrating situation no doubt. Combine with the silence down below and the static spewing out from his radio, the admin knew, more than anyone else, that things were growing dire quickly. Which meant one thing: he needed to finish this little battle and move on to the real target down below (?)

Flicking his wrist in one fluid opinion, the man aimed down at the woman once again. The only difference? He doesn't hesitate before squeezing the trigger. At the same time, he balled his hand into a fist and slammed it against his side, cracking another poke ball to send out one last Pokémon: a darken Charizard.

that's the end of anna's life, then. cut short at the mere age of twenty-two. at least she can say she was the youngest head ranger in hoenn's history.[break][break]

or at least it would've been the end if not for PROTECT. the invisible barrier catches the bullet as though it had just broken through glass, shattering immediately after. the bullet drops to the ground with a clang.[break][break]

the charizard is met with a FAIRY WIND that looks to buffet it back, allowing virizion to swoop down to SMART STRIKE the gun away.

the gunshot makes her ears ring — the tinny sound of her still being alive. the protect that rises before her shatters like glass, but the bullet drops to the floor with a metallic, impotent clatter. [break][break]"you found me!" annalise has never been so relieved to see MATIAS SILPH , nor the little cat that races toward her in virizion's wake. she can't summon any sort of strategy in the haze of her adrenaline-addled mind, but she can will her pokemon to go all out, at least. "tuna, chestnut, attack!"

her chesnaught slashes his arm through the air toward the dragapult, intending to keep it away from its trainer with a spray of sharped pin missiles. her meowstic waves a paw and sends a psychic blast in Felix Gallagher 's direction to shove him hard.

annalise shifts her weight underneath her and tries to scramble to her feet while the chaos allows, but her ankle gives uselessly beneath her and she tumbles with a pained gasp. it's only now, as she gazes down the length of her leg, that she sees how oddly it bends.

"oh fuck," she hisses between gritted teeth, looking for something — the side of the boat, maybe — to give her something to grab onto and leverage herself onto her good leg.

The PROTECT arrived just in time, hampering the bullet from fulfilling its duty, while simultaneously distracting him long enough to allow the SMART STRIKE to effectively knock the gun from his hand.

AIR SLASH tore into the FAIRY WIND, disrupting it before it could reach him, while Dragapult put its concentration into dodging the incoming barrage of PIN MISSILES.

This, again, left Felix vulnerable to the PSYCHIC force that pushed him away.

Two against one, he thought, clicking his tongue against the back of his teeth. With a legendary aiding them, no less.

From the sounds of it, they had already created a mess downstairs -- most, if not all, of the pokemon were probably already released. And if the radio silence meant anything, his grunts had been apprehended as well.

A shit situation, for sure.

"INFERNO, INFESTAION."

Out from his lips, the commands came out, cracking into the air like a whip. Seconds later a tornado of fire is released from the charizard, creating a plume of smoke below and around it, where small dreepies could leak out and fill their surroundings. One by one, they scattered across the ship's floor, looking to attack the ankles and tooties of any pokemon or trainer in it's way.

As they did so, Felix slowly backed away, readied to look for a proper escape route to slip through.

virizion and togekiss busy themselves with dealing with the small dreepys.[break][break]

matias reaches down for anna, mindful of her injured ankle.[break][break]

"come on. let's get out of here."

annalise looks up at MATIAS SILPH , vision growing blurry.

"okay," she agrees, voice small and watery, as she reaches shaking hands out for him.

the adrenaline fades, but the nightmare doesn't. [break][break]
once she's standing, she slaps a palm over her mouth and tries to choke down the shuddering sob that rises in her throat. the pressure building in her chest is too much and she quickly unravels into hyperventilating, trembling hysterics. there's a "you saved me" and a few "thank you"s whimpered between tears, each word wet and difficult to decipher. [break][break]annalise tries to ask if he got the caged pokemon out, too, but even that is wobbly and easily drowned out by another wracking sob.

her meowstic is forced to let Felix Gallagher retreat, pouncing on one of the infesting dreepy and thrashing it between her teeth before moving onto the next. chestnut uses pain split to alleviate annalise's injury, taking the shock of pain with a grunt.

There was obviously no beating this. Clicking his tongue, the man signaled for another layer of attack, this one on the defensive side.

SMOKESCREEN.

The Charizard, knowing full well what to do, released a wall of blacken smoke, thickening the air between them. As the wall of black divided the two groups, Felix gestured for the dragons to turn back and retreat through a hidden passage way to their left. There, they'd be able to regroup and consider the damage done. Maybe ask for backup along the way.

Though, given who showed up, he was sure it was far too late for that.

like the true hero he is, matias is humble even if she really should be thanking him for saving her. does this mean she is in his debt now? probably, but he doesn't think so. as far as he's concerned, he is just doing what anyone one else would've.[break][break]

in a different circumstance, she might have laughed at the nonchalant way he boiled all of this down into just another day on the job. he reminds her of Greyson Connors in the way that they both seem to shrug off things that would keep her awake at night. why can't she be more like them? why does her chest feel so tight? [break][break]
she should feel relieved, grateful, even, that her suffering meant something in the end, but she feels neither when MATIAS SILPH tells her all the pokemon were freed.

"i'm glad," she says, voice weak. "i can't imagine what would've happened to them if we hadn't been there."

annalise finds small consolation in the intrusive thoughts that bubble to the surface of her mind. team rocket would have done so much worse to those scared pokemon than what they did to her. unprompted, matias unearths the answer to one of the questions annalise couldn't bring herself to ask. her face turns a sickly pale color as he recalls a previous encounter with Felix Gallagher .[break][break]
"what?!" her voice finds its strength again, hoarse around the edges under the strain of something between outrage and horror. "he tried to kill you? Why? who is he? what happened?"

from what he's saying, MATIAS SILPH was the victim of an assassination attempt. and yet, he talks about it like Felix Gallagher had done little more than inconvenience him. annalise's face is hard to read as he recalls his close call. [break][break]
"how'm i supposed to not get caught off guard if he's good enough to catch you off guard?"

she picks at a loose thread on the blanket the emts had provided. [break][break]
"like, you said it yourself, things would've been a lot worse if your crazy fast pokemon wasn't looking out for you."

the thread starts to unravel.

no matter how nonchalant matias is about his own experiences, annalise still thinks he's a threat. strong or not, his ambush could've been decisive if virizion hadn't been there. maybe later, when she could think clearer, she'd worry in circles about finer details like why he'd been targeted in a planned attack. [break][break]
