Nico is an individual that began his story far before he'd ever been born. The youngest son of Torolf Unken and Nichole Ambrosia, a couple that met through adversity brought on by Torolf's father. Ever the unkind, brash man, Nate Unken was unapologetically harsh with his son and frequently drove him out of the family home. Torolf sought solace in the companionship he found with Nichole, their bond proving strong and infallible in the eyes of their children and extended family. Although the couple had to cut out Nate from their lives, they retained a strong, healthy connection with Nicholes family, as well as Torolf's mother. Everyone differed greatly in personality- with Torolf often clashing with his step-brother Turendo. However, regardless of differences, everyone had one universal interest; Pokemon.

Each member of the Unken and Ambrosia family proudly bore some kind of Pokemon-related accomplishment. For his Uncle Turendo and grandfather Tronious, they boasted exemplary research skills and hours dedicated into gathering Pokemon knowledge akin to Pokemon Researchers. His aunt Kata showed unending dedication to the safety of people and Pokemon alike, trusting in her own Pokemon to manage the dangers together. For all their specialties, however, everyone shared one distinction in common; everyone had 8 badges.

Born ten years after his elder brother Leo, Nico had arrived premature, beginning life as a relatively weak infant alongside his twin sister, Victoria. From then on, it was as if he played catch-up his whole life, always too small or under-developed compared to his family. Nonetheless, Nico grew up in a warm home, barely noticing his medical shortcomings due to the support of his parents and extended family.

Tragedy unfortunately struck as the warmth in his house was cut down by the loss of his mother. Losing Nichole was an unexpected and harsh blow for the family, and Torolf struggled to pick up the pieces. Support from his extended family kept the unit from drifting apart, but Nico could always feel the sharp change in his family's behavior after his mother passed, even as he grew older.

Finally, Nico's 20th birthday hit. As customary for his traditional family, Nico left his home to travel the region, grow as a trainer, and most importantly... obtain all 8 badges.
