Let’s start off by saying that this was Noah Camus’s idea, and that’s a very important fact.

Despite what people may think, fishing has never appealed to Tam. Is it that he thinks it’s boring? That it takes too much time? No. The issue is it takes effort and he just doesn’t care enough.

But... Apparently there’s a fishing competition as part of the Slateport Splashfest, and as Slateport’s ranger captain, he should probably be there to make sure people are abiding by the ranger guidelines and not taking more fish than what’s allowed. That doesn’t mean he should take part in the competition itself, but Noah had insisted.

Apparently, he had also decided to bring some of their coworkers with him, or well, at least Hailee Jacobs.

”At least it’s a nice day.” Tam says to no one in particular, sitting on a foldable chair at the end of the docks that are near their ranger headquarters. He has a beer and his fishing rod, and right next to him, his Yamper naps peacefully.

Now Hailee wasn't much of a fishing person but she figured she'd tag along. Especially since her boyfriend asked so nicely. Raijin was perched on his favorite spot, Hailee's shoulders, as she made her way to the docks. Noah had been kind enough to let her know that they were spending the day with someone else but he didn't say who. It would seem she was a little earlier than Noah since the only person she saw there was some blonde guy, but not her blonde guy. [break][break]

As she got closer she recognized him since she'd seen him in the dunk tank line a few times. "Oh hey!" Hailee said with a smile and wave as she got close and set up her own chair. Her's had a cute little umbrella attached overhead to keep the sun out of her face. "I see you already got started." she said as she plopped down in her seat. [break][break]

"I'll be honest I don't know a thing about fishing." She admitted as she glanced around before grabbing her phone and tapping a quick, 'Where r u?' text to Noah while Raijin got comfortable in her lap. "I hope I can get something good." Hailee muttered under her breath as she attempting this whole fishing business.

What an amazing idea Noah had for once. Inviting Tam Fawley and Hailee Jacobs for some good bonding time with the guise of fishing, he was truly a genius in hiding. It was finally time they actually got to meet up properly and bond like a real team.

What Noah didn't put into equation was the amount of things his dad would throw at him when he mentioned they were going out for fishing this morning. Noah was put in charge of the portable grill and food for some reason, not that he minded at all. At least they would have food and who knew... Maybe Noah could get the cursed Mantine he's been using in the Surfing activities.[break][break]

As Noah made his way towards where they were meant to meet, grill being dragged behind him, a thermal bags in both arms, some meat and some other kinds of food for the grilling, Rocker waddling behind him with a baggie filled with pokemon treats. All from Noah's parents, making sure they had a good day even if they din't fish all that well.[break][break]

He could feel his phone vibrating inside his pocket and he was 100% it was his girlfriend. Sadly his hands were a tad too busy to check the phone but thankfully he was already at his destination. "Hellooooo~ Could anyone help me with these so I can set up my fishing line!" Noah would say with a bright tone and an even brighter smile on his face. "Pretty please! "Hey." Is all Tam says to Hailee Jacobs as a greeting while reeling in his first catch: a Gorebyss that apparently had wandered up from the depths where they usually dwell. Strange, but other than that, there's nothing too relevant about the fish, so he decides to let it go back to where it'll be comfortable.

With him, even words of reassurance are dry, especially when he doesn't even bother with looking at her – being too preoccupied with setting his fishing line back up. That is, of course, until Noah loudly announces his arrival, and in doing so, wakes Tam's Yamper.

Ever gleeful to see the cadet, Clover's ears perks. Quickly standing up, she approaches Noah Camus with waddling steps and a wagging tail. Probably not the help he wanted, but at least Tam also gets up a moment later.

"...How did you even carry all this?" He's almost impressed, but he sure doesn't sound like it, and while he's busy helping Noah out, another fish happens to bite...

Well, well, well... From the quick little bite that had come out from some holy and not at all weirdly placed fishing rod that just happened to have been prepared and ready as Noah approached... No continuity issues here. Nothing to worry about, just continue reading like nothing happened.[break][break]

Seeing the yamper come for Noah's rescue was truly a good type of joy in his day, not that it was great help but it gave the ranger the mental support he needed. "Just a lot of practice with the whole one trip thing after grocery shopping." Deep inside hoping that Tam would understand his reference or if that had be a generation thing. Even though he was sure tam wasn't even that old.[break][break]

As soon as Noah was able to put down all the bags and put the grill a safe spot he would pet the yamper as a thank you, taking the baggie filled with treats from his own rockruff he would give the two pokemon something nice to munch on and hopefully send them their way to go play for a bit, a bootyful sight to behold after all.[break][break]

"Thank you for the help, Cap!" Noah would say giving Tam a salute as a small joke since they were off-duty, well he hoped they were off-duty at least this once, right?... RIGHT? [break][break]

Making his way towards Hailee and giving her a little smooch on the cheek and setting his own chair at her side. "How's the fishes been treating you, hun?" Noah would say setting up his own line again with the biggest smile in his face. It was a good day after all.[break][break]

Tam is only two years older than Noah Camus, thank you very much. Although, honestly, if he were to try and guess the cadet’s age, he would probably think him to be barely more than a teenager. Funny how that works, right? Even when they’re close in age, some people sure seem much more mature than others. It may also be completely true in this case, but demeanour sure plays a part in it.

Regardless, Tam doesn’t think too hard about it, being much more focused on this whole one trip after grocery shopping thing. Being that he lives alone, he can relate to that, honestly.

Hailee had totally spaced out since landing an octillery. What was that little guy doing here? Then she started thinking about suction cups and then her mind went to other...darker places...where she stayed, daydreaming, not even noticing her boyfriend had arrived and was asking for help. Yup. That's what happened. Hailee was stuck thinking about tentacle hentai monsters and that took up all her brain capacity. She totally didn't forget to attempt to reel in another fish. Yup. "Thank you for the help, Cap!" It was Noah's voice that snapped her back to reality. Cap? She frowned looking at who Noah was referring to. Was that this guys name? Surely not. Maybe a nickname perhaps. She still remembered she hadn't gotten a proper answer from him about how he knew her name. Had she met this guy before? [break][break]

Ah well. She'll figure it out later she was sure. [break][break]

Noah came over and planted a quick peck on her cheek which promptly caused her cheeks to flush. "How's the fishes been treating you, hun?" a sheepish smile formed on her lips, "Ah right...that's what we're supposed to be doing." Hailee chuckled. Fishing totally hadn't slipped her mind for a moment there. [break][break]

Hailee cleared her throat and adjusted her line once more so she could have another attempt. "I caught a little Octillery but I let they guy go. I kinda felt bad." Yup, that's totally the reason she let the little fella go. Not because she got nervous she got caught thinking about naughty stuff. "What about you guys? How are things going on your end?" Hailee asked both of the blonde boys on either side of her.

Plopping down in the seat like a big marshmallow, relaxing for once. He was damn sure this would be one of the few times he would get some peace of mind before work finally catch up with the three of them, especially the two cadets. Noah himself didn't exactly know what Tam did a lot of the times, there was the story of stopping the flock of wingulls with his own hands, which seemed very likely and true and there was nothing in the world that would make Noah think otherwise. [break][break]

As he was getting fully settled and confortable on the chair he would feel a tug on his line but as he quickly pulled he missed his shot. "Oh that's no fun!" He would say with a small chuckle, such was the life of fishing. He would put some bait back on the hook and try again, now that was the life of the splashfest right there.[break][break]

"Ye ye ye! We're meant to be fishing Miss Hailee!" He would say teasingly, for the first time it was him making her blush, that was a rare occurrence but one he welcomed, being with her did make him feel happy. It was also really nice to see Tam Fawley and Hailee Jacobs in the same place. Those were two of the people Noah spent the most time around after all. [break][break]

"I could have cooked us that octillery! That's a good catch though." Although the biggest catch here was clearly Hailee but Noah wasn't really about to say that in front of Tam, he had some self respect left in him lost deep within. "If we both start sucking at it I'm sure a Ranger Captain could give us a few pointers, right Tam!?" Noah would look towards their superior in hope of at least a small agreement. If he ended being as bad in fishing as he had been in Mantine Surfing he might as well start cooking right now.[break][break]

This has to be the smallest Milotic Tam has ever seen. It takes some work to reel in, sure, because a Milotic is still a Milotic, but when the pokémon finally makes it out of the water, it turns out to be barely the size of a Dratini or even smaller. Is it a young Milotic? Just out of its egg? Barely more than fry or something? What is it doing up here? Where are its parents?

Tam sighs, and carefully, he returns the young pokémon to the water, then having a sip of his beer and petting Clover before finally paying some attention to the conversation between Noah Camus and Hailee Jacobs. He only catches the last part about him giving them pointers.

Does Noah think he likes fishing or something? That he’s some sort of expert?

”Just cast your line and wait.” It’s said matter-of-factly, as if this were the obvious answer. That’s all it takes, right? By some interpretations, one could even translate the captain’s words to him telling Noah to git gud.

"I could have cooked us that octillery! That's a good catch though." Noah exclaimed and Hailee frown and flashed him a look. Something about having her hands on the little guy and then eating him put her in a weird spot. Then again, she figured that was just difference between the two. Noah was raised in a kitchen and Hailee would probably burn it down. Besides, she liked eating food than preparing it anyway. It worked out perfectly that Noah was the chef out of the two. "If we both start sucking at it I'm sure a Ranger Captain could give us a few pointers, right Tam!?" Hailee froze as she slowly turned to look at Tam. Why'd Noah say that to him like....like Tam would know? Surely he couldn't be a Ranger Captain all along and she didn't know. Hailee began to break out in a cold sweat. If she was honest she'd skipped the past few ranger meetings but she had a good reason! Finals were breathing down her neck and now that she had a break she hadn't thought to catch up on what she missed. [break][break]

Suddenly she felt herself grow rigid. She hoped she hadn't done anything embarrassingly while around this guy. "Just cast your line and wait.” Tam replied and Hailee nodded before watching him reel in a big ass Gorebyss that matched her own big ass Huntail. "Eh see it's not so hard." Hailee said as she turned to Noah with a big grin on her face.

The classic ”Just cast your line and wait.” and the "Eh see it's not so hard." Making Noah want to strangle the both of them, it was like having a small watery Viet Flashback to the Mantine Surfing. From far away it had seemed like one fo the easiest things someone could do in their life but for him, it had been only 23 fails out of 23 tries so he was in the right track for sure hahaaaaaaa...aaaa.[break][break]

Both of them out fishing him was showing him that he needed to pick his game up! "I guess I'll just do that then." Was he pouty? For sure but what could he do? Just keep trying. He had Tam Fawley, his amazing Ranger teacher and master and Hailee Jacobs, the girl of his life. He was just slightly tilted but that would likely change in a few minutes.[break][break]

He hoped at least, even after he had caught the smallest Mantine he had seen in his life, even with his burning rage towards the pokemon he couldn't put himself to cook something so tiny, he would wait for it to grow bigger then he could partake in some good revenge at a future point.[break][break]

After casting his line one more time he would stare out towards the endless ocean that lay in front of them. Not really focusing in anything around him in particular, just full on tunnel vision at the small buoy in his line. "Soooooo... Since we all work at the same Ranger station. Have you guys ever worked before? Did Hailee also have to wake up a sleeping Snorlax?" He was curious and trying to take him brain away from the his past in the Splashfest.[break][break]

Hailee Jacobs agrees with his advice, and Tam finds himself thinking that she seems alright, because there's nothing worse in this world that people who overcomplicate things without a reason to. Fishing is supposed to be simple, but in practice it is not. Still, his advice is clearly golden, because it's all it takes for him to reel in a gigantic Gorebyss.

Noah pouting almost sent Hailee into a fit of giggles but Hailee was a professional. The only sign of her almost laughing at him were the slight trembling of her lips. She didn't mean to tease him, but that's just how the cookie crumbled. In reality, Hailee had no clue what she was doing. She was just relying on her natural luck and letting the chips fall where they may. [break][break]

"Soooooo... Since we all work at the same Ranger station. Have you guys ever worked before? Did Hailee also have to wake up a sleeping Snorlax?" Noah asked as he fixed his fishing line once more before casting. Hailee slowly glanced over to look at Tam even though she already knew the answer. She'd never laid eyes on this man before the Splashfest. [break][break]

"Nope. Just you. Don't think we've ever even done a mission together, right?" Tam said as he met Hailee's gaze. Hailee opened her mouth to reply but was cut off by Noah reeling in a giant ass Gorebyss. "WOAH!" Hailee exclaimed as she applauded Noah. "See? I told you. Not bad, Noah." [break][break]

Hailee nodded in agreement before flashing him a thumbs up. "Hell yeah! See? You just gotta believe in yourself, like we do." she encouraged him before quickly leaning over and giving him a quick peck on the cheek. See? She could be nice too. Raijin then took it upon himself to leap from Hailee's lap to Noah's. After all, he knew what he wanted, and that was snacks. "Jin Jin leave him alone." she said with a chuckle but she knew he wouldn't listen. [break][break]

"But yeah," Hailee began as she cast her own line back out there. "I don't believe we've ever had the pleasure, sir." Hailee said in response back to whether she worked with Tam or not. "But considering everything going on with Hoenn at the moment, I'm sure that'll change, right?" she said as she glanced back at him.

He didn't want to admit it but it did seem like it was just throwing the line in and pull out whatever came at it, most likely just a trick of fate just to prove that the both Hailee and Tam were right or perhaps it was just as she had mentioned about the whole believing in your self scenario. The impressive thing here was that all three of them were catching big fish, the sad thing being that they were all being thrown back to the sea, Noah could imagine so many dishes, almost like a hallucination. [break][break]

As the peck in the cheek came in he would become red as a berry but he wanted to try and hold some form of composure, after all he was a professional fisher now, the best in the region, is what he would say if he was dreaming right now. His full composure would be broken once Raijin jumped on his lap and pretty much begged for treats, who could say no to the little one? Reaching into one of his pockets he would take out a pokemon treat and hand it to little Jin Jin "There there! We gotta keep space for lunch later on though." He would say to the pokemon and giving him some rubs behind the ear.[break][break]

To Noah's shock they hadn't even worked together before, kind of weird. "Oh for real!? So there was no Snorlax, no test huh? Interesting... Interesting. I'll note this down for sure." Hailee did have a huge point there, the way that Hoenn has been going lately they probably had very little free time in their future but very likely a lot of time to be spent together doing their Ranger work and taking care of dark and grim outcomes of maybe surviving a meteor strike. "So uh... Yeah! Just give me a shout if you guys get hungry, my parents packed us... A lot of food." He would say feeling slight embarrassed by that.[break][break]
