Kaida was fuming.

The community garden of the town had been burned. A quiet, out of the way garden, and now a third of it was nothing but blackened ash. Hoenn had no access to the outside world, at this point, food was something that the people and Pokemon had to be self-sufficient in. She sucked in a breath as if to spit fiery words, and burst into a coughing fit as the smoky air irritated her lungs.

"W-we...we have to c-clean this up." She looked over her shoulder at her partner as she threw down a Pokemon, releasing a Sandaconda. With the ground types's capabilities, they might be able to safe the soil...even if she knew it wouldn't be enough to save this town's food supply anytime soon.

She shouldn't be here, her heart murmurs as she lets out a cough. Dianthus looks concerned, her tail flicking from side to side as she yowls for Amaryllis to leave. But having come across such a horrid scene, her conscience tells her that she can't simply leave this be.[break][break]

"Yeah... uhm..." Her words are limited, she should avoid breathing the smoke in as much as she can. The smell of charred crops makes her nauseous as she kneels down to reach for them, plucking out whatever she can manage. On the other hand, her Espeon helps with bursts of Psychic, moving fallen vine supports and burnt scarecrows out of the way.[break][break]

Why would anyone do such horrible things?

On her knees, and eyes narrowed from her Sandaconda's tiny Sandstorms, Kaida didn't notice why Amaryllis' Pokemon was distressed. The twirling dirt and sand tore up the burnt debris, and the ground-type attempted to mix in new soil, as if it would help.

"This was the work of Rocket." Kaida's face twisted, white teeth showing. It was hushed, and the townsfolk would only speak of "thugs". She wasn't one to miss that these incidents were ongoing in other towns, and many had confirmed Rocket allegiance. Perhaps it was to cause resentment, or prompt desperation, it was all horrible.

"I hate them." Words escaped her maw in a fit, they've been escaping more, recently.

Rocket... Her gaze dulls as she continues to work at the fields, a frown tugging at her lips as she thinks of her brother. How would Killian Decker think of this mess? Had he ordered this attack? Or were those around him responsible for this?[break][break]

"They're... not all bad..." She murmurs, failing to meet the eyes of the other. "If they really are trying to be peaceful like they said... it might not be them that started it..."

Kaida coughed, struggling to turn the smoke in her lungs into words. The irritation refused to manifest in her words, too angry at the scene before her to properly feel angry at her partner. Such thoughts about Rocket were gaining traction lately. She shouldn't even be surprised.

"Humans are good at lying. Very good." She spoke as if separate from the situation, "I would believe that if I didn't see the Pokemon they hurt. They-they turn into monsters...they can do all they want to others, but they hurt Pokemon like this all the time." Humans hurting humans happened all the time, and she was far to tired to act like her love for Pokemon was matched in any way to strangers.

She had to turn away, blinking smoke from her eyes. It twisted in her chest, and her side ached like a long-lost bite. A bite she couldn't forgive Rocket for, as guilt for a second life faded, and fury fir trying to take her life rose.

It's exactly because humans are good at lying that Rocket may get blamed for everything, the thoughts cross Amaryllis' mind but she's starting to lack the concentration to piece it together. She senses that her partner has probably been scalded by the organisation in some way - Perhaps, they've killed her pokemon. She really wouldn't be too surprised if that turned out to be the case.[break][break]

In fact, the only reason she's only seen Rocket's relatively good side is because Killian has been making them keep their distance from her. But even he warns her about the evils in the organisation, even he has fear for what she has yet to see.[break][break]

"Dianthus..." Her voice quivers as she tries her best to lift a fallen wooden frame to little avail. The Espeon is quick to drop whatever she's shifting, darting over to her trainer's side and barking sharply at her as she takes over the heavy-lifting. And as Amaryllis is left to watch the silhouette of her companion shift away with the frame, she finds her mind wandering.[break][break]

"Rocket... may hurt my pokemon, but so have other people... unaffiliated... just a few unsettled things with my parents..." There's barely any air for her to breathe without the back of her throat burning. "The day that they hurt Dianthus... I cried waiting for the doctor to come back out... I thought she might die."

"...You're right, people hurt Pokemon all the time...I don't have parents, I can't say anything about evil in that matter." She could label them evil, she certainly wanted to. She was much too tired to label long gone parents of a stranger.

"I need to stick with the humans that at least listen a little." She didn't care how strange she was to their eyes, but here, she could do something with people. She could tear then away from Pokemon they'd harm. She was a Ranger. It was something for strange her. Under her breath, she continued, "At the very least, I nevertheless someone who killed me in the League."

She glanced over at her partner, suddenly aware they had been working a while, "Are you OK? We can rest a moment. We have time."

The topic of parents feels sour upon her tongue, so she chooses to brush it away, trying to avoid taking a deep breath as she busies her hands. There's no way she understands what's going on in that ranger's head and some part of her questions if she really should try to pry.[break][break]

In fact, should she even be worrying about such things when she's barely managing to keep her focus? When Kaida mentions taking a break, Dianthus is the first to tug at her sleeves, pulling her away from the smoking mess with desperate mewls.[break][break]

"Y- yeah... I uhm... think a break would be nice." And she barely puts up a fight, almost tripping over her own feet as she follows along.

Something was wrong. Topics of conversations didn't usually render people this sickened, correct? Did she really bring up something that distressing? The swirling smoke couldn't be helping either.

Patting her Sandaconda, she gave a quick series of instructions. "Bring in new soil where you can, and bring any debris into a pile so I can throw it away." A reliable Pokemon, she knew he would get the job done...she had to help her partner a little.

Kaida abandoned the scene, trotting after her partner, hand already drifting to a healing Pokemon's Pokeball.

It happens when she least expects it, that final trip that sends her falling to her knees. But this time, she can hear her heart pounding in her chest, struggling to keep up as her breathing grows heavy. Her legs feel far too weak for her to get up again, her vision dotting with darkened spots as she tries to stay in a sitting position by leaning on her arms.[break][break]

"D- Dia..." She murmurs, giving the Espeon an apologetic grimace. "Call... Killian..."[break][break]

And the world goes horribly dark.
