annalise is just here to keep wild pokemon away from viorel whitmore while he works, but she is curious about what he's looking for. she follows after him, spending far too much time looking over his shoulder or asking questions about his career. it's all innocuous — or it is until the sky darkens and a booming sound shakes the ground beneath their feet.

"shit!" she hisses, reaching for her poke ball-studded belt. her eyes are drawn to the lightning crackling across the domed roof overhead as the wind tugs at her ranger uniform. "viorel, get behind me!"

a strange-looking arcanine appears in a burst of light, letting loose a snarl that hiccups as annalise's poke ball bounces off its snout. her hisuian lilligant appears with matched ferocity, lashing out with a combo of kicks to drive it away from them.

Viorel doesn't seem to mind Annalise is a little...clingy? Curious?? She's talkative, and she fills up the silence. It's nice. He isn't struggling to keep up, finding it much easier to listen and prompt than drive a conversation. And then something...weird happens. "Is this- one of Hoenn's distortions?" he asked as Annalise seemed alarmed. Her cuss seemed as much evidence of it. He doesn't question her as he moved behind her, a hand reaching for his pokeballs. He snickered at the poor wild pokemon as she interrupted its mighty roar before watching her release and equally odd looking..."Is that- that is your distorted Liligant correct?" he released his Scolipede. Trindle is NOT happy about the distortion, and quickly settled herself around Vio and Annalise, protectively. [break][break]

Vio already has his notes out, quickly writing chicken scratch and trying to protect it from the rain. "I wonder what's happening here that's making them so aggressive. Um- Annalise, do you need my assistance? Trindle is fairly good at defense but not much else." he explained out of courtesy to his escort.

annalise offers only a nod, face tense, at viorel whitmore 's question. she doesn't know why they keep happening, but they've been blooming across hoenn at an alarming rate. they don't last long — half the time she gets called out to one they vanish without a trace before she reaches them.

she's grateful as the scientist slips behind her without complaint. her lilligant batters pokemon away, giving annalise a moment to breathe and process his words. [break][break]"yeah, she's mine." a scolipede joins the group, creating a wall around them with its body. "wait — y'know, i guess distorted is a good way to put it. she used to look like a normal one, but she, like, transformed inside one of these distortion zones."

annalise can't wager a guess as to why it makes pokemon aggressive, but she does appreciate the additional help.

"Oh- Right!" despite the mess he was in with Annalsie, the pouring rain and the violent pokemon he still found himself side tracked. "Has her typing changed at all or just her appearance?" he added before he began running once prompted by both companions. Trindle's SPEED BOOST began to kick in making her slither and move a bit faster. Just enough to help her trainer along who wasn't the quickest sprinter.

viorel whitmore 's theory is interesting, but not one she can chew on right now. the distortion in question swirls around them, the domed ceiling popping with lightning and artificial rain. she huffs as she races towards the edge of the zone, spurred on by her lilligant and the scientist's scolipede.

the man beside her is quite calm despite the aggressive pokemon that snap into existence around them. she tuns her head to spare a glance his way.[break][break] "uhhh," she begins, a little breathless, "i haven't gotten her tested or anything but, like, she seems different."[break][break]
ahead, the aforementioned lilligant chops another pokemon into submission.

"like, it's not just her appearance — her vibes are totally different too! and she seems so much stronger now!"

maybe her typing has changed, but annalise can only assume what it is now by her more muscular physique.
