his insistence is testing her patience. and if his aim is to goad her, he's certainly doing a good job of it. that other pokeball is still palmed in her hand and she rubs her thumb over it. oh, how sweet it would be to have her dragons finish this injustice. 

"like i said - there's always a war and in it there are no winners." just scars and burns and waking nightmares reminding them that happiness is fleeting. that happy endings don't last as long as they're supposed to. 

everyone gets what's coming to them, in the end. fernando saw his. matias will be no different, no matter the years since his betrayal. and even after that, when the dust settles, king's own wounds will not have healed. but that's another matter entirely. 

lyune snorts and a small warning jet of flame plumes, blisteringly hot, before matias' face. freya grins like a cat.

"you'll find i take my charges quite seriously when the one i pledge to is not a manipulative liar."

ironic, coming from the man who lost his war in kanto. but to him, that war's still ongoing.[break][break]

the small warning jet of flame plumes stops his advance. his head ducks back before his body follows, barely avoiding the heat that would've been far worse if not for the bond with his deity.[break][break]

he glares at her, past the lingering fumes.[break][break]

"and who are you pledged to now?"

they'll just have to agree to disagree there. her amusement at his rebuttal is clear on her face, tinged with a smugness meant only to rile him up. if he gives her an excuse to release lyune's reins, so to speak, at least she might have some ground to stand on for standing against a member of the elite four. 

"is there a reason i'm being put under such scrutiny, matias? i came only to liberate the ship here from its assailants."

he chuckles, condescension not apparent on the surface but hidden beneath.[break][break]

"i am not my brother. don't let whatever quarrel you have with him spill onto me."[break][break]

his gaze falls to the salamence, eyeing how fragile it looks despite its size.[break][break]

"it would be wise to remind your dragon the same. i wouldn't want it to lose its other wing."

fragility is not something that comes to mind when freya looks upon the scarred beast beneath her. lyune has survived for centuries and will do so long after she's dead and gone. scars from countless battles riddle his hide and though he may have a crippled wing, he still has teeth and talon and a fire in his belly. 

and a history of savagery that should not be taken lightly. 

so she scoffs, but humors him all the same. she pats lyune's side and says, "my flame, this man threatens your other wing if you don't settle down." he may not understand the words, but her tone, dripping with sarcasm, makes him tense. he blows another fume, but this time he tilts his head back and away from their present company. it's more of a display than an attack.

"make no mistake - my ill feelings towards you have nothing to do with your brother," she says sharply and then yanks on lyune's reins. the salamence's front legs raise, tail as thick as an oak trunk slamming onto the ground to balance his weight upon. and then he tips to the side, off the edge of the boat where he can catch the wind like sails beneath him. 

they rise quickly, back over the deck, hovering there before him. "be well, matias! may our paths cross again."

even with a history of savagery, matias is more than confident this relic of a dragon would not survive should it come down to it. lucky for them, it hasn't yet, though that might soon change in the near future.[break][break]

he's hoping for it.[break][break]

matias says nothing but a "tch," as she ascends, making her departure. only when her form is but a mere blip in the sky does he finally sigh.[break][break]

"fuck her."
