It was true, he’d amassed quite a few more members of his motley little family.

“Ah, it’s fine,” Sy said, shrugging, “that’s the name of the game, right?” Being a Pokemon trainer, and all that? “Gotta catch ‘em all?”

A little Surskit buzzed up on a Soot wave, hopping into the beach and spider-walking over the smooth stones. Sy hit it with a Pokeball as well.

“Besides, you’d be amazed at how many tagalongs I find wherever I go,” he said with a laugh. “They seem to find me.”

It was true. He seemed to attract the lost and unwanted and, above all, the young.

“So how long have you and your husband been together?” he asked, changing the subject.

Pluto smiled at that, it was good to hear. It was sorta how he was given Roze- the gastly hated everyone, even Night when he had first caught him. Night gave Pluto the pokemon in an attempt to tame it, it worked, for the most part.

A shadow caught his eye as a tropius walked up and bayed at him. Pluto let his jaw drop, it was huge! Oh goodness, he sorta wanted it! So he meekly tossed a ball towards it.

"Oh! We've been together..." He had toc aught. "I met him when I was 20, we got married not to long ago, actually..." He was counting on his fingers. "Say, five months?"

Sy’s penchant for absorbing the lost and wayward meant his team was growing exponentially, especially in this time of hardship.

"There are a lot of uprooted Pokemon right now,”he said, "and a lot of them need a home.”

Maybe that wasn’t true. Maybe they’d actually all be fine. Maybe it was just his human savior complex.

He watched Pluto’s eyes light up at the Tropius. He seemed to have a thing for dinosaurs!

Another Water-type surfed in on a wave created by Soot’s gallivanting. The Buizel hopped onto the pebbles. zigging and zagging up to Sy, where it seemed to find camaraderie with the gaggle of youth hanging out in his protective shadow.

"That’s so exciting!” Sy said, speaking again on Pluto’s relationship success. “Had to get it in before the apocalypse, huh?”

Pluto looked giddy when he caught the dinosaur, tucking it safely away. Though he looked up as Sy said that, looking towards the sky with a small frown. He... did not want to think about it, to be honest.

"Could say that." the little shrug. "We just wanted to tie the knot, since we've been together so long." He wasn't going to mention how they instantly almost started living together after getting together.

"We met when I used to still be in a traveling carnival, I read his fortune." The little blush. "Cards said he would find love."

Sy caught Pluto’s frown and gave him an apologetic smile of his own. Count on him to not just ruin the moment, but murder it.

He didn’t like pretending to ignore the elephant in the room. Especially when the elephant was the size of a meteor.

“Woah, a traveling carnival?” he said, eyes widening-- because if that wasn’t the weirdest meet-cute he’d ever heard of he’d eat his hat.

Weirder than meeting on a deserted island? His mind supplements, thinking of nagi miwa. “How’d you get into that? What was it like?” he swallowed, face flushing. “Sorry. It just sounds super neat. I understand if you don’t want to talk about it.”

A Natu hopping on the beach hopped up onto Sy’s foot and perched there, seeming comfortable to hang out.

In the water, Soot had found a new playmate. A Dewgong that was swimming around him and Sy's pokemon. Pluto looked over for a brief moment, suddenly watching the seal pokemon honking and clapping it's fins. It was content to be with Soot and wasn't leaving, seems be made a friend.

"Ah! Well, my dads worked in it too. So I kind of grew up in it, I have eight other siblings. They grew up there too, but we all went different routes. I got more into the carnival and learning the supernatural, my brother went into photography, my sister Venus is a marriage and relationship coach."

He could go on for hours.

Sy’s jaw dropped. “Eight?!” he repeated, flabbergasted. “Holy cow. I thought I had a big family with three.”

Three that he never spoke to anymore. But.

His interest was piqued. He was about to make Pluto go on for hours.

"What do you mean by ‘the supernatural’?” he asked, head tilted in curiosity.

A Rowlet came down and perched on his shoulder, cocking his head and looking down at the situation at hand. Sy reached up to ruffle the owlet's feathers affectionately.

Pluto began to laugh. "Yup! Let's see..." Oh lord. "Venus, Mercury, Terra, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and me, Pluto!" It was a HUGE family. "Terra and Mars are adopted... everyone else came from my dad." That. Could get a really weird look from some people, but unless Sy asked, he wasn't about to explain his trangendered father.

"Supernatural?" His fingers wiggled, trying to look spooky. "I read tarot, the stars, predict fortunes!" Smiling, he made some motions. "My sister Venus does love readings, and goes by the stage name Goddess of Love, for reasons." Another shrug. "My bro, Jupiter, is a big time photographer I model for. Mars and Neptune are bodyguards." Giving a little view into his family.

"And that's not even all my family! It's bigger if you include my cousins and such."

Or his one husband and four boyfriends.

Pluto went down the long list of his sibling’s names and Sy couldn’t help smiling at the theme. It was very beautiful and just a little corny. It reminded him of something his mother would do if she weren’t so old-fashioned.

“Are you all close?” he asked, innately curious; his own family was tight-knit, even if he was the odd one out.

Columbina used hydro pump to knock down a passing Xatu out of boredom, then shrugged as if to say, who, me? when Sy glared at her while tossing a Pokeball.
