still laying on its back, lucario summons a PSYCHIC to wrap around the sableye, intending on slamming it into the STONE EDGE matias had summoned prior.[break][break]

The shimmer around Ametyhst's mega-evolved form slightly dims in light, signifying that it's nearing its conclusion. Katherine's lips purse at that, not out of discontent but merely out of habit. The Pokemon's shield dissipates into dust before it reverts to its original form, slightly more exhausted than before.

The only indication that Lucario's PSYCHIC works is that the Pokemon's eyes ignite with a spectral blue hue that elicits a quirk of a brow from the Malevolent. Beyond that, Amethyst remains unaffected. She does not wrestle against the anticipated, tight hold of the PSYCHIC.

Either way, Amethyst shrugs off the influence of the move easily, reaping the fruits of her innate TYPING IMMUNITY. She then charges at Lucario, empowered by her ZEN HEADBUTT. Who could blame her for wanting to impress them by showing how it's done?

"Uh-huh. I suppose I feel special then, but I recommend focusing on the battle if you can't multi-task. I'd hate to tell Melody Miro that she was right about your challenge being easy."

as for his lucario, it does what it wants to do without needing his orders as that's what it's been trained to do. maybe it's the hatchery that made its judgment slightly off.[break][break]

either way, it slips past the ZEN HEADBUTT and turns to return a SHADOW BOLT into sableye's back.

"You're not getting paid to go easy on people," a harmless comment turned into a slight jab. Another of Katherine's specialties.

Much like the Lucario, Katherine's Sableye has been trained to operate and do as she sees fit unless her trainer intervenes and asks for something more specific. When the steel-type slips past her, Amethyst merely maintains her veil of ZEN HEADBUTT, allowing it to shield her from her opponent's attack.

Katherine exchanges a look with her Pokemon then, maintaining her silence. In response to it, it merely backpedals away from its foe, allowing the BURN to do its job without added pressure.

he returns the slight jab with one of his own, more than happy to do so amongst the company of colleagues slash almost-friends.[break][break]

realizing his lucario is on a very short timer, he watches it lunge back to throw a barrage of SHADOW BOLTS and decides to help it out. his wrist flicks, causing tendrils of earth to grow out of the floor. they attempt to wrap around sableye's ankles to hold it in place.

A POWER GEM bursts through Amethyst's gems, each ray of luminous light taking aim against an incoming SHADOW BOLT. Few of them escape the Sableye's aim, but all is well—it's prepared even for that.

Amethyst deftly phases past the tendrils of earth that wrap around her ankles, narrowly missing the two SHADOW BOLTS that slipped past her dazzling defence.

"You're not going to catch me off guard with that, Matias," not because he's slow but because it's an aspect of Katherine's powers beyond her control. This sort of immunity was innate, requiring no effort on her part.

"But you're more than welcome to try."

he can do no more than watch the sableye phase through the tendrils of earth. briefly, he's glad he does not have to face katherine on the battlefield. fighting against her must be a nightmare, he imagines.[break][break]

in a fit of anger, lucario slams its fists into the ground to send forth a wave of FRENZY PLANT that looks to distract the sableye enough for the follow-up SHADOW BOLT to finally connect.

The FRENZY PLANT indeed manages to distract Amethyst.

She breathes an ICY WIND in response to it, allowing the frost to handle the encroaching roots and freeze them entirely. Katherine expects a moment of reprieve then, especially following the FRENZY PLANT, so it's only natural for her Pokemon to think the same.

There's clearly not enough time for the ghost-type to evade the incoming SHADOW BOLT, and that's when the Malevolent intervenes.

With a snap of her fingers, her realm manifests around them. What follows may be predictable but valuable all the same. GRAVITY turns in on itself, lifting both Pokemon high into the air.

Sableye remains unharmed, at least for now.

"You won't get anywhere if you stay that far away," is her advice, "but maybe you know something that I don't."

It doesn't sound likely.

with another wave of his hand, this time longer, stretched out to allow for more STONE EDGES to rise from the ground, his lucario tilts in the air before using them as platforms.[break][break]

another wave of FRENZY PLANT erupts, and whether it traps or hinders the sableye matters little as lucario leaps forward, pushing off the platforms to get up close to throw yet another SHADOW BOLT.

Where STONE EDGES may be necessary for the Lucario to stabilize itself, they come crashing down as soon as GRAVITY reverses and turns on itself once more. They shatter into small rocks while Lucario and Sableye regain their footing in the arena.

"Here's another tip," she preambles, "FRENZY PLANT is no good when my Pokemon can see it coming so easily. I mean, come on, it forces your Lucario to regain their strength. It's not ideal if you're using it to follow up with a move, you know?"

WILL O WISP orbs are breathed into life by the ghost, amassed into a small fireball that merely aims to blow a hole in the wave of roots. It leaves Sableye unharmed, as before, with the only concern of the SHADOW BOLT. By the time the Lucario's finished preparing their second attack, Sableye is primed to react with a counter DARK PULSE.

In its normal form, without the strength of its mega-evolution, Sableye appears to be incapable of overpowering the SHADOW BOLT, but luckily it manages to defend against it.

"Are you going for a third attempt or will you switch it up before the BURN knocks out your Lucario?"
