The start of the second trail was the same as the first. It was, therefore, not surprising to see a silhouette of a Treecko in front of the tall grass on the side of the trail. Shalin instinctively reached for her Espeon's reins, but by the time she could do so, the psychic-type had already stopped! This was going to take some serious getting used to.

She had the perfect way to catch the Treecko and simultaneously get practice with Starr. She clicked Kiara's Poké Ball open, the Pyroar emerging and about to let out a roar before Shalin hushed her. The fire-type slinked toward the Treecko in near silence.

A single snapped twig was all the wild needed to DETECT the feline's presence and start to flee off trail. Kiara's big claw slipped wide of her quarry. She did have one more plan, though! The explorer held an empty Poké Ball in her right hand, and her Espeon's fur in her left. "Starr, ALLY SWITCH!" Her vision faded to white as she experienced weightlessness for a brief moment, her vision fading back in nearly on top of the Treecko that was trying to flee. Attempting to overcome her disorientation, she pitched the Poké Ball toward its back, hoping her throw was at all close.

The branching point of the trail Shalin was going to didn't come until reaching the mountains. She withdrew the Pyroar that Starr had switched places with, still dizzy from the psychic movement through space. Even Starr was straining her psychic powers a little to keep her rider harnessed up, having to ignore her rider's tactile commands in favor of mental ones.

The lithe Pokémon passed through the Safari Zone's foothills, heading toward the mountains proper while passing up several Torchic. Blaziken were powerful Pokémon as fighters, but she was only interested in Pokémon that could carry her.

One side effect of Shalin's vertigo-like state was the presence of white spots in her vision, similar to what one would see after staring into the sun or another bright light for too long. Perhaps more practice would wean her off of the feeling. At the very least, it seemed like Starr was comfortable teleporting Shalin with her, provided she had an object to switch places with.

The girl's vision was so obscured by white floaters that she failed to notice the Mudkip eying her and her Espeon. She refrained from any more Ally Switching for now. Not until her dizziness went away, and her impaired vision with it.

With the sun sinking below the horizon, Shalin could no longer see easily, despite the waxing moon rising above the east aide of the Safari Zone. As soon as they left the muddy roads crossing the marshland, Shalin switched rides to Kiara, her Pyroar, who offered much better vision thanks to her glowing mane. She did leave Starr out of her Poké Ball to battle a Bagon that caught her eye on the mountain trail. While Salamence was not a terribly unusual mount Pokémon, she wasn't going to turn down the chance to fly on one.

Starr was quick, but the wild dragon-type was quicker, lunging toward the lithe psychic-type from the side with a strong HEADBUTT. Not seeing the strike coming, she looked the wrong way in searching for her attacker, who struck again with another HEADBUTT. The badly wounded Pokémon held nothing back, a brilliant DAZZLING GLEAM from the jewel on her forehead blinding and searing the young dragon with pure light. Not wanting to let the Pokémon get away, Shalin pitched a Safari Ball with enough spin to rise toward its head.

Kiara entered a trot toward the Bagon's Poké Ball, then crouched low enough for her rider to scoop it up. Once she had secured her new catch, she commanded the lion to go faster. The Pyroar obliged, her glowing mane flowing in her rider's face providing enough light to see.

After reaching the moonlit grasslands, Shalin spotted the reason she had come back to the Safari Zone: a giant Eevee swarm had congregated deep in the field. She turned Kiara off-trail to get a closer look, Starr following. A Dazzling Gleam would make it easy to see which one was the largest, but it would also likely scare the horde off. That was it! She just had to scare the Eevee toward her!

Starr's low-light vision helped tremendously, able to see a rock about the size of a normal-sized Eevee on the other side of the swarm. The Espeon closed her eyes and telekinetically juxtaposed herself with the stone, then glowed with a DAZZLING GLEAM so bright even Shalin had to cover her eyes. Kiara roared and turned away from the burning light that sent the Eevee fleeing toward her. The largest of the group, directly hit by the Fairy-type attack, saw through Shalin's gambit and was angry. She charged, DOUBLE KICKing the Pyroar with enough force to nearly knock her rider out of her seat. Such aggression! Shalin tossed her final Safari Ball at the Eevee, crossing her fingers Starr's attack left it weakened enough.
