Kosei's explanation was brief, but Nikita understood a desire for privacy from a man who was still, essentially, a stranger. Normally, she expected — no, demanded the same level of privacy for her own life, but there she was, baring her soul.[break][break]

"So it seems," she agreed, her smile tinged sadness. She imagined, however, that her companion did not wish for pity, so she let the topic fall away with the ash of the incense as it burned.[break][break]

Finished with business at the shrine, Nikita turned to leave, then paused. Looking up at the man beside her, she wondered if he wanted to continue their walk, or if they would part ways after so brief an exchange.[break][break]

"Do you want to get coffee with me?" she found herself asking, watching his reaction with wide eyes warring with uncertainty and hope.

Kosei felt guilty, even if he had no clue why. This was only the second time he'd met Nikita and yet there had been more truth spilled than he'd ever dare to with anyone else. Even if it didn't seem like much. It was still only half of the truth. It was the nice and tidy half.

It was the part he could hide behind so that she might not examine him for the mess he truly was. It wasn't fair though, after everything she'd shared with him. Sure, maybe that was a personal choice. Maybe he had simply a person to talk to and she'd taken the opportunity to do so, but... well, it was nice to talk to her. That felt like a rarity for him.

Maybe with time he could tell her that the person she'd met so far was the half his parents created (though maybe kinder). The rest of him, he wasn't sure if she'd ever want to meet him. It was strange how restricting himself always felt so unsatisfactory. How would it feel to tell the truth and mean it, he wondered.

Kosei paused then, not anticipating the invitation. After a split second of thought, he smiled. "I'd like that. I know a place not far from here, if you're interested."

Nikita smiled again at Kosei's affirmative response, her whole face brightening at the notion that she would spend a little more time in his company. Though he seemed difficult to get to know, with his brief and sometimes guarded comments, she recognized the two of them were not dissimilar.[break][break]

It made her wonder if he was like her in another way: desiring connections with people — with anyone — who would not judge her as others have.[break][break]

"Of course I'm interested," Nikita replied lightly, recalling her Ninetales into a Poké Ball. While in Kosei's company, she felt confident she would not need a guardian. Then she fell into step beside him as they made their way to the front gates of the cemetery.
